Hey buddy, my vehicle is festooned with William McKinley bumper stickers!

I can recommend an excellent body shop.

And I know you're the authority on this, but never say never. The status quo certainly doesn't seem to be working, either for the US or PR.

Eh, it's working better for the US than you might think. There was a study done several years back showing how much PR sends back to the US, and how much PR consumers buy from US companies. It ended up being something like PR sends back $4 for ever $1 in aid the US sends. That's not a bad investment.

@mkt Any insight on the reliability of that reporting newspaper - Metro?
It's a free weekday tabloid that's given out on street-corners. It's not a BAD paper, but they give more credence to unofficial sources than they should. The only paper in Puerto Rico worth anything is El Nuevo Día.

Now, keeping the pavilion open another few months, like WDW did with the temporary Spain pavilion... I could see that happen.

Two things:

#1- Puerto Rico will never become a state. Or an independent nation. The island will never have a consensus without those invested in statehood or independence having to resort to trickery, like what happened during the last referendum with the pro-statehood camp.

#2- The Puerto Rican government doesn't have the funds to sponsor a long-term pavilion. Nor do any Puerto Rican companies. The economy on the island is in shambles.

If this happens, expect pandemonium on the island.

Yeah, aren't they in default or already defaulted?

PR can't legally default. It's an odd situation. Right now there's all sorts of mainland US attorneys and consultants on the island helping out.

However, there's tons of money on the streets - just a ton of tax evasion.

Disney will court anyone willing to give money.

I sense an Equatorial Guinea pavilion... they've got money to burn. And with that you get both Africa, AND a Spanish speaking nation (which is important, since more and more of WDW's guests are from latin america)

This is a terrible idea!
And what if Puerto Rico becomes a state? Wouldn't it just a part of America...?
as much as the chances of it becoming a state are slim, it still isn't worthy of a pavillion,

i really wish, countries like Australia, etc would show some interest in doing a pavillion.
Disney just needs to make some more movies themed to countries then they can pay for the pavillions with little investment from the home country, now that the WS is being destroyed by Frozen anyways.
Epcot is in dire need of new pavilions. I hope this comes to fruition.
new pavillions yes, but NOT Puerto Rico, Its already a us territory.
That has been brought up so many times in Congress. It's almost like beating a dead horse.

I can see this happening, their F&W is practically a pavilion.
the only reason they dont become a state is because their economy is so bad, it would kill there people to try to pay our federal taxes.

is there pavillion big or something?
No, sorry. I don't want this. I loved Puerto Rico when I visited. Really, I fell in love with the island. But it is part of the United States. It's culturally very similar. It does not fit into World Showcase. Make a pavilion based on another Caribbean island, not one that may become a state. I don't believe this rumor.
agreed, theres so much more of the world that needs to come, Brazil would be good, there isn't a south american country yet.

Temporary pavillions? interesting.

that could be a cool model to try to get countries interested in a full time presence, create a pavillion on one of the empty lots for a year and see how it goes. maybe have that country work with adventures by disney to sell vacation packages on site, so there could be some quantitative figure to judge regarding increases in tourism

I think its a lot of wishful thinking really, just like with the prior Spain attempts. Is Disney still courting Brazil though or did all that get nixed?

africa or brazil are much better choices

that was what world showplace between UK and Canada was originally meant for after the mill celebration, it was referred to as the "black box pavilion" internally, but was never really used for that, of course.

That's not even on the list of reasons. And with the exception of federal income tax, we do pay every other federal tax. And in cases like the federal payroll taxes (medicare/social security), we actually get paid back 80% of what we would in the mainland US.

Spain was the first, and it was awesome. Because I lived in Orlando at the time, and finally had people to argue over La Liga with.
