Project Tomorrow...no pixie dust here...
Father: "No, son, it's just bits of unburned hydrochloride ions blowing through the air."
Timmy: "What? No, look, daddy, it's pixie dust! It's magic!"
Father: "Did you know that Arthur C. Clarke said that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic? It's magic to you because you don't understand science like me, your dad. This is Project Tomorrow, a showcase of advancing technology, not some magical fairy-land."
Timmy: (Pause) "I wanna go back to the Magic Kingdom. With mom."
Timmy: "Ooh, look, look, it's pixie dust!"

When I was there the other day I got a picture of the new signage. Don't have it uploaded yet but this is what it reads:
Sounds like all of this could be better off in Wonders of Life than Spaceship Earth, but hopefully there will be some other technologies besides medical stuff.

I'm loving almost all of it.
The Imagineers did a great job in making the Earth Station building survive the test of time.
This is always what I'm looking and hoping for...a way of making the past and present tie in.
The new look to the Earth Station building is very retro, sleek, but still modern. It is a great blend of old and new architectual features.
The exhibit space for project tomorrow even looks about as big as the exhibit space for world key information.
My only complaint is that while I do enjoy the very similar look of the earth station screens...they are merely a projection on what little is left of the global neighborhood screens. The original earth station screens which are behind the global neighborhood screens would easily make the space look very big, let alone they would go along with the architecture of project tomorrow.
Other than that minor thing...I am very much looking forward to project tomorrow! :sohappy:

I assume all the original ceiling is still around...just covered up by whatever is being used for the current Project Tomorrow ceiling.
Interesting that the 20 foot projection globe will be a modern version of the 14 foot tarvelport globe! :lol:
To me, it looks like only half of the circular tilted global neighborhood screens were saved. These would be the screens that directly cover the earth station screens.
The other global neighborhood screens that were on the spaceship earth side look like they were taken down.
Also the new projections might actually be 7 squares total...similar to the 7 rectangular earth station screen projections...we'll know soon enough!
Interesting though Martin...there were spacious entrance and exits for the earth station with glass divider walls. They were all removed and changed in 1994 and made the area darker for mood lighting.

oh god.... im going out on a limb and saying that this will turn into a 30+ page thread on the old, the renovated and the new post show: What lies behind those projection screens. :lol:

From what I gather of the new Global Neighborhood, the screens - and indeed - ceiling were a lot lower than the original Earthstation versions. Who knows, the 1982 versions may still be up there amongst the later added AC pipes and suspended ceiling grids.
The originals screens were imense; they were rear projection, and indeed when it was used and not turned into a UV logo the center one actual dug into the corporate lounge space. The Earthstation ceiling was also the ubderside of the buildings roof, the Global Neighborhood renovation gave the space it a lower false ceiling. As Expo says, despite the room being brighter, the originals were very bright and easy to see - another great planning aspect of the original layout and entrances.
One thing I`ve never found; where were the doors on the original entrances? Hidden between each individual glass slat, or one big roller shutter? Answer quick before this does indeed turn into a 30-odd page thread

martin, do you have a quick sketch of the post show area from an aireal view marking were the corporate lounge is. to be honest, ive never taken notice of it on the inside and were it could be.
The lounge is behind the windows that face Innoventions plaza; it loops around the southern edge of the upper floor, with an elevator and stairs to it from inside the west `cylinder` (the tube between the original 2 slatted entrance gaps on The Seas side).

cool. that is what i figured, but i was unsure of the elevator location.
now im going to catch up on the Horizons ride vehicle thread.
Here ya go (I`m sure I`ve drawn something similar a while back)
The purple is the lift and stair access. Blue is the lounge (note how the screen projection areas cut into it). Yellow is corporate space (offices etc) and the red corridor led to stairs to SSEs unload for VIP ride access. It`s funny how a lot of the VIP entrances had their very important people get onboard, and then travel through....nothing as they proceeded to ride to the load areas (Horizons springs to mind)
And just to go OT a little further (sorry, merf) note the tree in the photo top right. 13 years ago this was a large walkway with a sheet glass wall and double automatic doors for an entrance into Communicore East. Memories...

Spaceship Earth would be easy to get a life like VIP ride... since handicap enters VIA the exit... (You just dont get the stairs and other long hallways real VIPs get)
The yellow area can best be equated to being a bomb shelter - it's dark, and cramped, and it's like no one ever does spring cleaning to get rid of accumulated junk that's up there. It really needs one of those TV-makeovers to clear out the clutter.
