Private homes on the way to Walt Disney World

This is one of the problems of the internet. People over analyze things. Disney world is what 46 sq.miles? and they are going to take an area the size of a golf course and build houses on it. There is still plently of room and you probably won't even see the homes. I wonder is fansites like this were around when Celebration was built would people still complain? yes. Do they complain about how it turned out? I dont think so. I think its a great business move and it will probably bring in a huge profit. can you imagine the property taxes?!?

Celebration is not in the middle of the WDW Resort, either. I do not have to ride by them on my way to the MK, Epcot, MGM, or AK. If this goes through, I will have to look at this garbage. I want to see monorails, trains, and attraction facades, not someone's 4-runner or explorer, or their private boat, or their trash, or their stupid seasonal banner hanging from their retarted balcony. It will ruin the mgic. Period. And as far as profit and taxes. 1.) Disney has not turned a loss in a long, long time. They are not hurting financially, by any means. 2.) More taxes...hmmm.....Like citizens do not pay enough. ENough taxes already. WIll the people who run this company stop watering down the brand for the sake of some ridiculous profit.

I agree that we do not know whether this is going to happen or not. A lot of things have been announced and later taken away since they realize it won't work. I personally don't like the idea...I think that Disney should be dealing with vacations. I am not a big fan of all this outsourcing and new venture ideas. Disney knows what it does well and it should stay that way.

Celebration is as much "in the middle of wdw" as these houses would be. Like Merf said this is in the far northeast of the wdw property. What I dont understand is why people are so upset about this but not about the Bonnett Creek Resort on 70 acres inside disney property but not owned by disney(right next to Carribean Beach). http://wdwmagic.com/bonnet_creek.htm

I just do not get this. I do not want to see someone's permanent living situation when I am on vacation. This will, in my humble opinion, damage the magic, at least for me. I know i cannot speak for him, but i believe that Walt would not like this. The magic of disney is all about escaping reality. If this takes place, they are gonna take reality and put it in the middle of the magic.
I have to say, there are too many pinhead business and finance guys runing this part of the company. Why on earth would they take valuable land that can become some attraction area of some sort and allow people to live there.

I hate the idea. If i could afford one of these places, I would hate the idea. Goodness, This is absolutely absurd. I just hate this idea.
As if Disney was not making enough money.

Just one more example of how pinheads business guys can scrap the entire vision Walt had for WDW. Horrible idea.

He had business, homes, retail, and research facilites and an Airport visioned for WDW
On EPCOT :
"It's like the city of tomorrow ought to be. A city that caters to the people as a service function. It will be a planned, controlled community, a showcase for American industry and research, schools, cultural and educational opportunities. " - Walt Disney

Not to say people weren't upset with the Bonnet Creek area, but there was nothing that could really be done about that. It isn't Disney's land and they weren't going to be able to get it.

I currently live right next to this property (up against the golf course...and listening to Wishes as I type this) and I can tell all of you non-millionaire Disney fanatics, you can live even closer than this new proposed spot to the MK at a fraction of the price if you wanted to. Many homes are in ridiculously prim locations bordering backstage that are for sale right now. Come on down!

Wow. You can hear Wishes at your house.
Super Neato.

Understood, when we stayed at pop last year I saw this construction and I thought why is that resort being built closer to the parks than mine. I was suprised to see it was so close yet not owned buy disney. My point was people are getting so worked up (again) about something than disney MIGHT do that could be positive. All I read on here is people critisizing disney for everything they do but not appreciating disney for bringing us great attractions and resorts, thats all.

It makes me kind of sad to see this. I've always thought of the WDW property as a retreat from the over-development and rows of McMansions I face at home. It seems with this development and the western way development underway that the outside world is closing in on the property. I understand the company's need to turn a profit, but will there be any open space left in the future?

Exactly.

It is very sad and shows what direction TWDC has for WDW ... it is now all about developing land with hotels, timeshares and, now, vacation homes.

Not about being the Vacation Kingdom of the World and creating world class themed attractions and parks. Just living off a repuation largely.

The execs who run Disney now don't understand the intrinsic value that land has in its natural state ... as a blank slate for the future.

They want every square inch developed now. When you look and see how much land has been developed in the last 15 years, it's scary.

There's a day coming when there will be no natural berms ... no wilderness areas on property seperating one area from the next. You can already see 192 (and vice versa) from DAK Lodge ...

Not at all what Walt -- or his successors -- had in mind.

Ill ask agan, Does anyone know then, if this article is just talking about the Four Season's devolpment that was announced last march? just a resort with time share units, and multi-family units, and vacation homes?

Yes. That is what is being reported on.

This isn't new.

What is new is that site prep has begun when as recently as 3-4 months ago there was major doubt that anything other than the actual Four Seasons would be built.

I don't understand why Disney has to ask Orange County for a rezoning ordinance if it is RCID property. They could just build it and then de-annex it.

I have no problem with Disney doing this.

It is not like we will drive through the Welcome to Walt Disney World sign and look over and see some guy in his slippers and bathrobe getting his morning paper outside his yard.

This is an area where no guests will see unless they go there looking for it.

Hell I wish I could afford one.

It is not like they are cancelling using the land for another park or anything. 47 square miles is enough to hide the homes.

The problem is, with selling off the land for Celebration, they're down to 39 square miles. Another 500 acres for this project and they're down to almost 38 square miles. At what point do they stop? They may not be canceling a park, but they're preventing that land from being used for some type of park or resort development in the future.

Does anyone know if these new homes or the Four Seasons Resort will be lake-front on the back side of Bay Lake?

Agree. My husband and I know someone who used to go out back and watch the fireworks every night. Maybe it would get old for some, but I see it being a fun and certainly a unique experience.
