Princess Elena of Avalor’s Royal Welcome

So...one can only look up to a Disney Character if they fit their ethnicity?

No, but it's also a bit condescending to expect a demographic to make do with a character that may not necessarily represent their background or upbringing. For instance, in the mid-2000s, Smackdown became very popular with Latino viewers. So, the WWE started putting more focus on wrestlers like Rey Mysterio and Eddie Guerrero.

There's nothing wrong with diversity and inclusiveness, and I for one applaud Disney for going forward into the 21st century.

nothing wrong with it at all, but when the character is created solely to say we have a latino character , it seems somehow disingenuous...Make do? Well interesting take that everyone has to "Make Do" if Disney is not representing their exact demographic...

Well, it wasn't solely for that. As a spin-off of Sofia The First, Elena of Avalor helps flesh out that setting's background, explaining more of the history of Sofia's magical amulet.

And yes, it's easy to "Well, what about all the Princesses we already have? Aren't any of those good enough?" when you're white and most of them are white too.

hey guys!! i happen to know a friend of elena's so i'll give you guys some info on what you're wondering about with her stay over at the magic kingdom ;)
this probably comes as no surprise to some (if you've watched different videos of it, maybe?), but elena's royal welcome ceremony has been reduced from 20 minutes to 5.
there are also rumors that her show will remain for an extended period of time, and she isn't doing meet & greets right now, but that is definitely possible for change at this point in time.

Well, I'd imagine the ceremony would be shorter now that all the talking heads have left. Without all the corporate feel good baloney, you've got Cinderella & Charming introducing her, she sings, bam done.

I dont believe the intention was ever to be longer than 5 minutes, that was just the 1st show.

The first day was just the media event. The short show happening on stage currently was always the plan for daily ops I believe.

Ugh...Withe all the characters from Disney films not represented in the parks, do we really need a second tier character from the tv show? Who cares....

While you may think she's a "second tier" character from a TV show...remember that those TV shows geared towards young kids are what grab kids and make them Disney fans. The popularity of Disney Junior is through the roof right now...and Sofia is a huge hit.

Just because you aren't the demographic of these characters does not mean they are less popular. My daughter, for instance, was very excited when I told her about Elena.
