Primeval Whirl

Hey MerHearted! Here is my opinion. I went to PW with my sister and a friend. They rode it, I did not because of fear of motion sickness. However, I stood there and watched the ride and came to the realization that it didn't look that bad. I think I stood there for about 15 min. just watching people go by. You can stand there and watch the ride and then decide whether or not it looks good. The good thing about this ride is that it is outside and you can see every second of the ride. It's probably one of the shortest rides at AK.

i think yall are making PW alot scarrier than it is. It's not a scary ride. SM is worse than PW. PW is short and fun. NOT scary

For a first time drop, I recomend Pirates. It's a boat ride in the dark and there is a small drop on it. I think that's a good start.

Oh, I've done that one. It wasn't really much.

I think if you ride Big Thunder Mountain you can easily ride PW. I find Big Thunder to be more jarring, have more drops, and be more thrilling than PW. In fact, I was pretty much bored on PW it was so tame. I think of all the coasters in DW it is the tamest, and in my opinion the lamest, and I usually stick up for everything Disney no matter what but this ride is just such a waste, again in my opinion. However, like I said if you ride Big Thunder this should be a cake walk. I also, agree you should try Barnstormer, to build up your immunity to drops, so eventually you might be able to work your way up to Splash Mountain or Space Mountain. Actually, I think Barnstormer is more fun than PW. So check them out, and enjoy yourself.

That's what I told my wife about PW... she rides big thunder mountain.

Man, did I catch hell after she got off primeval whirl... but know I have a better gauge of what she can (and can't) handle.

I think what you feel happens to everyone... It's part of the experience.... I always feel my stomache flip but I still try the rides...

Try again... Maybe you didn't prepare yourself when you tried the first time........ I think you can easily ride space mountain...
the drops aren't so high and rough as it seems....

well, I don't know, I can handle just about aall of the rides at wdw, with the exception of PW & the tea cups. those two I have come to the conclusion, that I will sit out. I have tried taking dramamine and other similar items, still the last experience on PW taught me that it wouldn't be fair to the CM's, other guests, my family or even myself for me to ride that ride. It has nothing to do w/being afraid of the ride itself, that is no big deal, its the motion, and maybe we tend to spin more because my husband is a big guy, I don't know, either way, I'll be enjoying that ride from the ground!

It's not really my stomach. It feels more like my heart getting shoved in and up.

ah, well in that case, I would skip it, there are so many other fun things to do at WDW that it really isn't worth it to terrorize yourself all in the name of fun. I mean your only missing one ride, when I went when I was pregnant I missed far more than one ride and still had a wonderful trip. no need to ruin a day or a whole trip just because you forced yourself to ride one ride.

I'd also like to add, I wouldn't waste much tought or stressing about whether you should ride it or not because it really is nothing special, you wouldn't be missing anything at all. There is tons more enjoyable rides.

Coming from a reformed ride chicken ( I was just scared of them, didnt get sick or anything, just was terrified but no longer!!!) I have to agree with Dwarful. Stressing over a little ride like that is not what it is all about!! Do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do!! This is Disney!! Hakuna Matata!!!Belle

I thought I had read somewhere that people have nicknamed it the Primeval Hurl because it tends to cause motion sickness. I thought that was funny!:hurl:

MerHearted , I have not ridden PW as it was under construction when I last visited. However you said that you can ride Big Thunder Mountain – if so I would imagine you can handle other coasters in the parks.

Space Mountain has one short drop and it’s no worse than those on Thunder Mountain are. The drop on Splash Mountain looks worse than it is. Think about it – on Thunder Mountain you have a lap bar to keep you in place. There is no such restraint on Splash Mountain. You may also be aware that the logs are not free falling, they latch on to a track for the “drop”.

I know some people who get motion sick steer clear of coasters. My mother was one such person, but she only gets motion sick on repetitive motion rides – those that just spin round and round. She rode her first coaster aged nearly sixty (Thunder Mountain) then managed Space Mountain and rode them repeatedly with no ill effects. If Splash Mountain was around then she would have ridden it. She has since ridden Paris’ Space Mountain.

I would hate to think you miss such a great ride as Splash Mountain. Try it once, whilst I realise it’s easy for me and my cast-iron stomach to say it, I think it will not be as bad as you think. Just sit back, relax, enjoy the ride and when the ascent through the tunnel to the top of the mountain starts and you see the Vultures; grab the rail in front of you, get ready to take a deep breath and when you hit the top start to scream your lungs out. When you reach the bottom you will be laughing like an idiot and ready to join the queue to do it again.
