Predictions! Secret WDC Project — August 22 @ D23

As I stated upfront in the video, this was based upon logical deductions from what we know about the announcement (location, division of project "Walt Disney Company" and the format of the rest of the Expo etc.) I never state that I know what the announcement is, but offer my speculation based upon what is logical. I also wanted to manage expectations, so that Disney fans don't expect a fifth park and then are disappointed by D23 Expo this year.

Which is why I said they were your "guesses", not facts.

Converting the Contemporary into an Incredibles Hotel (like Marvel in Paris) sounds like a fit to me... pictures on “the other site.”

My daughter showed me the photos this morning of this concept.... She is generally for anything Disney wants to do to any ride or hotel.... However she had a very negative reaction to the idea of making the Contemporary resort the Incredibles Hotel. I think decorating the hotel halls with some character art, and changing the carpet is one thing.... Changing the focus of the hotel (arguably a historic landmark) is quite another. This is more than getting rid of Figment in my mind.....

How I see it, is that it has to be a Company Wide or Corporate project/partnership and it would have to meet these 3 points in the criteria.

More thoughts on Disney's Lighthouse Point being a front-runner for the Secret D23 slot.

As far as I can tell, there is no DCL specific panel at D23. The first of the three new ships will debut in 2021, and more than likely around the first 6 months out of the year if it is to follow the trend of the previous ships. That places the maiden voyage prior to the following D23, making all formal announcements regarding the ship to be during this D23.

For those unfamiliar, Disney Cruise Line announces their itineraries roughly a year and a half ahead of time. In D23 2009, Alaskan cruises were announced. The moral is, if Disney is going to announce a major destination it will be during D23.

The names of the ships are still unknown, however, many people suspect something along the lines of Disney Believe, Disney Wish, and Disney Imagination.

Lighthouse Point, the primary topic of my previous point has not been formally announced. The announcement and details would take quite a long while due to its depth.

The Disney Dream has a roughly 3-week itinerary break in late 2020. The most probable cause is a dry-dock, which would hopefully include the replacement and final demise of The Golden Mickeys, similar to how the phenomenal Beauty and the Beast replaced the horrid Villians Tonight. Back in 2017, Beauty and the Beast was announced during D23.

Quietly, as on May 30th, 2019 Disney Cruise Line Blog (I believe this is the initial source, Orlando Sentinel released an article today regarding the same topic) announced the replacement of Disney Wishes on the Disney Fantasy with Frozen, A Musical Spectacular, which debuted back in November 2016 on the Wonder. Unfortunately, I cannot comment on its quality.

With exception to the Disney Magic, all the ships need further work in regards to theater shows. With the implementation of Tangled: The Musical, it made the Magic's lineup very solid. It also includes Once Upon a Song (Surprisingly great), Twice Charmed (Not an award winner, but ridiculously entertaining), and Disney Dreams (The weakest show, but it is still better than both Disney Believe, and Disney Wishes, both currently on the Fantasy).

Due to the Fantasy getting Frozen, A Musical Spectacular, there is no longer a clear last place. If Beauty and the Beast and Frozen are ignored, the Dream has the worst show lineup, but due to Beauty and the Beast being a truly spectacular show it boosts the lineup immensely. I see the addition of Frozen to the Fantasy as a clear indication of another original show being added to the fleet in the new future, not including the new ships.

A new show announcement will take up even more time during the hour-long DCL specific panel. If you include the new ship, which will probably have one original flagship show, and one original secondary show, even more announcements are included. The original secondary show can easily be cloned to one of the other ships in need of further theatrical love.

As for Lighthouse Point, I can already see it. The announcer's presentation "Countless guests continuously express their love for Castaway Cay. As a result, they have added more and more cruises containing two stops at Castaway Cay. Yet people cannot seem to get their fix for the tropical paradise. Imagine being able to stay overnight at Castaway Cay. I bet you've dreamed about that. Well, the Walt Disney Company is famous for making dreams come true. At Disney's new private island, Lighthouse Point, staying at "The Excessively Long Name of a Hotel" resort you will able to make this wish a reality."

Disney Cruise Line's homeport of Port Canaveral is receiving $46.5 million in upgrades in order to give the new ships a warm welcome.

The Fantasy and Dream cost roughly $2 billion together. Each of the new ships will undoubtedly cost more, and the addition of Lighthouse Point, with a current budget of around $400 million (Likely to change) and the $46.5 million Port Canaveral expansion it will increase the extreme expansion of DCL to around $3.55 billion. In other words, the Walt Disney Company is pumping a new theme park worth of money into Disney Cruise line. If this is not enough to warrant a 1-hour panel, I do not know what is.

To recap, an hour-long D23 segment regarding upcoming DCL expansions would include
  • New show announcement. 1-2
  • New ship name(s).
  • Concept arts, and possibly a virtual tour of the earliest ship to release.
  • New concepts for the Port Canaveral overhaul.
  • New destinations following the launch of the new ships.
  • Which perfectly transitions to Disney's NEW private island, Lighthouse Point!
  • But the fun doesn't stop there! Lighthouse Point will include a resort area for overnight stay.
I mean... this did recently pop up on Twitter.

I wasnt talking about anaheim. That castle should be the last one ever to be redesigned. Its walts!!!! I just think that “a popular place” like Magic kingdom shouldnt be the same castle they copied (almost) in tokyo. Yes it should be tokyo changing theirs but they already have enough cool stuff going on.
I understand what you are saying. However, changing Cinderella Castle in the Magic Kingdom is perhaps the only thing that could unite all the Walt Disney World fans into near literal riots. Iger and Chapek can get away with a lot and have people defending it, but that one would not fly. You mention how Sleeping Beauty Castle in Disneyland is Walt's castle. Well, Cinderella Castle is Roy's. He was the one who opened Magic Kingdom. No way it would be changed. Not even with the current company leadership.

It kinda fits tho. Landmark or not though, Contemporary is pretty uggums. Like the primer for a 1970's Ikea ugly. The Incredibles animation style capturing that 1950's esque look is much prettier to look at, albeit I'm really not on board with retheming a $500/night hotel to a cartoon theme.

You speak nonsense! Wild Arctic (“the simulator ride”) is the best attraction in the park. Better than Star Tours. I am not joking. It could use some new film but a full replacement would be foolish.
I would enjoy the ride if the tech/film/scenery was updated. I have enjoyed the ride. Seeing it get not much love and it being quite rough, my group doesn't even bother riding it anymore.

Oh, I must have missed the memo that said D23 is all-parks, all-the-time now.
The world is a very vast place. Saying Disney is going to expand into a very specific space and getting it correct is one in a million. If I say I believe it is a 5th gate, no matter how unlikely, it is more likely than any non-parks related subject. I do not see the point in complaining about what other people are predicting. While it is far more likely to be unrelated to the parks people can still dream.
