Pre-Disney Workout?

So I'm wondering if there is anyone else out there who does this?

My mother and I for the past two Disney trips started walking about a month or two before the trip to "get ready" for Disney. It's not that we are not physically active or don't walk much on a daily basis. We just know how MUCH walking is in store in Disney and like to "amp" up our game before we go. I started seriously walking two weeks ago and have been listening to RoE, Wishes and Fantasmic as inspiration to walk further each night.

Am I a weirdo or is there anyone else out there???:lookaroun

I, personally, have never walked or anything to prepare for Disney, but I do run on a regular basis. Although when I'm at Disney, I normally stretch in the mornings to loosen up before the walking.

Honestly, when I'm in WDW, it's like something else takes over and I just go for it. I do workout regularly, but I usually don't like walking all day if I'm at home. But when at WDW, is a different ball game.

Oh I concur on that one. The last trip though, Mom and I had at least one motrin/coffee break in the day. We realized then that age was kicking in :ROFLOL:.

I'm on my feet for much of the day anyway, maintaining heavy machinery. What I need for WDW is a good pair of walking shoes! Haven't found a really great pair yet.

Another weird thing for me is that my feet don't hurt nearly as much as you would expect a persons feet to hurt at the end of the day. Years ago when I was a young teen, they did, when I was forced to walk at a slow snail's pace with the rest of my family, but now even though I walk fast like lightning through the parks my feet do just fine. Usually if they do hurt, I don't really acknowledge it until after the park closes. It's weird because I'll speed walk from one ride to another trying to cram as much disney magic as I can the last hour, and as soon as the park officially closes and I can't do anything else, I acknowledge the tired.

We do walking as well. My husband walks and is on his feel a lot during the day for work. So my daughter and I start walking about 2 months before a trip. We try not to walk fast when we are there. We did it once and my shins felt like they were on fire. I fell behind and was yelling "go on without me, save yourselves" I believe it was when Mission:Space first opened.

We do the walking trick also, when one of us starts to complain the others always say "Please stand clear of the doors Por Favor ____ "you get the idea.

Me and my kids start walking 2-3 months before our trip. I don't like feeling worn out by the middle of the day and "training" has really helped us out. My kids do complain about it but I'd say, "This is only 30 min. What are you going to do when we're at Disney? We'll be walking ALL DAY then! And it's going to be just as hot or maybe even hotter." All is right with the world though once we're at Disney. Although I also make sure to bring good shoes (Crocs for us all) and band-aids just in case. I can't wait till next year.......:animwink:

I'm pretty active so I don't work out any extra before my trip, but I do break in whatever shoes I'm bringing with me. I might walk a couple miles or so on the treadmill just so they arent stiff at all.

I'm in pre-DIs training as well. In my case it because I have osteoarthritis and standing still quickly becomes painful - so I'm out for long walks to build up my stamina and loosen my joints up.

Just completed 15 days between WDW and Universal. No pre-trip workout. Yesterday was the only day I got a blister and both feet were overly sore by the end of the day. All in all a successful trip!

I have special orthotic insoles that only fit in certain shoes, so I'm stuck with what I have. They're well broken in.

I started walking about a week ago in prep for the Thanksgiving trip. At my age (not that I'm ancient mind you LOL) my DD and I pull pretty full days from park open to close to park close....tons of walking is involved as everyone knows so I kind of prep myself :) I read somewhere the average person at the World walks 5-7 miles a day...that means at a minimum I'm logging 35 a week LOL So I need to be movement ready!!!:p

i am definately not fit but i never gave a problem walking a full day in wdw. i feel that the magic and excitement decracts me from the painand i can keep on walking. happily

I don't exercise but I'm very active. I do notice when I do a few minutes of stretching before a day at the park, I don't get achy or crampy at the end of the day. I just feel better.
