Eh, I choose to look at life a little differently. I'm glad they brought the skull back even it's just a disguise for the picture. To each their own. Not everything has to be met with sour negativity all the time.

I get that.

I just wouldn't mind being wrong once in a while on stuff like this. It would be cool to just go "hey look! the skull!" and that be it.

Meh. I don't think it was sour negativity so much as most likely the truth of the matter.

Either way, I'm glad he's back... but, again, that voice has got to go!

"Booo! Looks like a cartoon!"

This is why I never come here anymore

Yet, here you are.

EDIT: In the interest of fairness, this isn't exactly "bringing the skull back," considering it's a completely different skull with a completely different voice delivering completely different dialogue and is there for a completely different reason.

And yet you're here.

People can't have expectations? I remember begging my mom for a dog when I was a kid, specifically a yorkshire terrier. I didn't get a yorkshire, but a cocker spaniel. Was I still pleased and happy? Yes, but the fact is I wanted a yorkshire terrier.

From what I remember, the skull was kind of glow-in-the-darky and had its own spiel like the Parrot.

This is honestly what I remember (and may have downloaded it in my younger years on things we referred to as CDs and listened to it a gajillion times):

"But keep a whether eye open mates, there be squalls ahead. And Davy Jones to them what don't obey. So sit closer together and keep your ruddy hands in board. That be the best way to repel boarders. And mark well me words mate, Dead Men Tell no Tales."

I was hoping nobody would bring that up... now you've got my blood pressure up! :hilarious:

The story problems are real, but why the heck is everybody calling him captain when it was a running gag in the movies that nobody actually did? It's honestly my biggest problem with the changes. Takes me right out of the moment.
What would have been fun is if everyone kept saying "Jack Sparrow" and Jack is in the background hiding and saying "ugh.. Captain... Captain Jack Sparrow.." under his breath. Would have fit into the movies' running gag perfectly and seemed less out of place and corporatized.

People can have expectations but there's really nothing wrong with the skull. It's fine to not like the look or the voice but it's not awful by any means. They're pretty much you-know-what if they do and you-know-what if they don't do it exactly how some want it.

We cling way too much to the past sometimes. The other skull and voice were good but they've been gone for a decade. I know some people had their hopes set on the same thing returning but it didn't.

I'll have to see it in person to make a final call, but the skull visually seems okay. I won't judge the lighting conditions from a video clip at least. Lighting can make or break effects like these, and these low light videos (while good at certain things) are rather inaccurate at dark scenery lighting. Voice isn't "bad", but could be better (and I wish the dialog was more traditional).

I'm actually more curious how the skeleton steering the ship looks now with its new lighting, hopefully the scene doesn't look too bright (too bright could ruin the background with the rain, lightning and clouds).

It's honestly the biggest deal breaker for me of the changes. The fact that nobody but Jack Sparrow considers Jack Sparrow to be a captain is one of the most famous gags in the movies.

I do love the movies for the most part, but I am not in any way supportive of the changes made to the attraction as a result of them. At all. Even down to the ridiculous changes in the queue and the ugly murals they painted on the building. Why are there murals celebrating piracy painted onto this Spanish fort that's there to defend against pirate attacks?

I question the decision to do the overlay at all, but I specifically believe that an overlay designed especially for Disneyland's version of the attraction should not have been forced onto WDW's, which is a completely different ride with a different conceit.
The murals are mercifully gone now, I believe.

They have actually fixed some of the narrative damage done in 2006 when they added the mermaids. If only they could get the overture out of the queue.

Came to WDWMagic for the first time in a little while to check in and see what's new.

See a thread about the talking skull coming back. I get excited.

Then I realize it was added back to monetize a photo-op.

Figures.

What this tells us: Imagineers are smart. They "get" the parks and their history. I'm quite sure someone figured out this was the one way to get the money to put the skull back in the ride. Which is a sad state of affairs.

Carry on.
I would just take the good with the questionable in this case.

Good point. I thought about that being a saving grace last night. Aside from the fact that things don't usually work that way. Meaning a change at WDW influencing a change at DL. For minor things like this at least.
WDW is usually the guinea pig for questionable changes. Notice how the mermaids, Haunted Mansion Interactive queue and animated Hitchhiking Ghosts never made it to Anaheim.
