Post Counts Proposal

I have been noticing in a lot of threads lately that people have been accused of posting a lot just to rack up their post counts. Whether that is true of these people or not, it has started many arguments on the board that I don't think need to be here. I know it might not be a big thing, but could it be that we don't really need to have post counts?

I am just suggesting that post counts should not be shown below our avitars. I could be wrong, but I just want to know what everyone else thinks. Many people have defended themselves saying that they don't care about them, or have even noticed them when these arguments come up. So mabey no one would mind if they were taken away?

I just thought this might be something to discuss here. I think that by not showing the post counts, these arguments won't come up. Although they are a kinda fun thing to have sometimes, I just dont think they are all that important. Some say that people use their post counts to indicate their senority over people on these boards, and I don't think that they should be used that way.

I know some of you have a very high post count, and may not want your counts taken away.

Mabey if each user could still see their own post counts, but it would be hidden from other members?

Any thoughts?

The only ones who notice them are the ones trying to boost their counts.

It's not a matter of boosting the count...if you have something to say, fine :)

However, little smily faces such as:hammer: ,:zipit: , or :king: by themselves add nothing to the conversation. A lot of people are saying "yes" or "no" or "i agree" just to get another hit to their counts.

I wouldn't mind seeing them go away, but I do like to see them. Certain people are watched very carefully and it IS noticed when you get a huge amount in posts in one day.

yes, i think they are cool too. Sometimes I can even accuse myself of posting unnecessary things, but I do it just because I want to have a say in something, not to increase my post count.

If something that someone posts has been said before, it is not always because they want to increase their post count, they just want people to know what they think. I know some of them might do it to increase the count, but I just feel sorry for those who are accused of doing it who just felt they had something to say.

Justin,
Just so you know, your bombarding chit chat with posts does nothing... The posts in here do not add to your post counts.

Ok, now here is a perfect example!

Sorry, I am not trying to "bombard" Chit Chat with posts. I was simply proposing an idea for the discussion board.

Like Fievel said before. It shows how long we have been here and how much we have dedicated " our time " ... You understand. Others just do it to get a big number.

I like to see them. I gives me an idea of who the newbies are, so i dont get annoyed if they do something like post a message in the wrong forum :)

Thank you! That may be the ONLY reason to keep them! ;)

I really don't care one way or the other. There are lots of "senior" members who have relatively low post counts, others who type away all day. There are also some relative newcomers whose count is fairly high. The numbers are really only an indication of how often someone posts, not any indication of status.

Quite agree, if there is only one reason to keep them then this must be the one.

I see nothing wrong with posting counts,if you notice I don`t have very many cause I`m usually in chit chat,so it`s obvious that I don`t post just to bump up my post count!

This might have already been suggested, but what if the post count is kept solely in the users profile. That way, anyone who wants to can see it, but for those of us who don't think they should be paraded around, they won't be seen all the time. If someone wants to see how many posts a user has made, they can always check their profile.

ok, I guess I am convinced to keep them, and just ignore the post count arguments.

Did you know you can find out what your TOTAL post count is, INCLUDING chit chat?

1. Click on your profile button on the bottom of your last post...
2. When you get to that screen, click on "Search for all posts by this user"...it's on the right side of the screen, about 2 o'clock
3. When the next screen appears, you'll see "displaying topics" under WDWMagic on the left side of the screen...about 10 o'clock.
4. That is the TOTAL number of posts including all your windbag posts here in chit chat....

If you do this correctly, JLW, you'll see you have 609 total posts...not 533 displayed near your avatar...
