My wife and I would like to just go up to the bar/lounge at Cali Grill and order some sushi and drinks. Can we do this without having a reservation? I think we've been able to do it in the past.

Yes, you can. When we were at Cali Grill in September, we sat at one of those little side tables while we waited to be seated. A really nice girl came up and offered to get us some water, etc. and asked if we'd like to look over a menu while we were waiting. She was so nice that we ended up getting into a pretty long convo with her, and she told us that a lot of people don't know this, but you can come in without a reservation and eat at the little tables (like the one we were at) or at the bar. :sohappy:

It is possible, I along with DG went in September and earlier in October. Both times w/o ressies... In September I lucked out and got a lounge chair right next to a window and then in October we sat at the bar. Not to mention both times were around the Wishes time but yet we managed. Although not recommended, it is possible! Just tell the podium on the 2nd floor you want to go to the bar or try to get a lounge chair...

You can definitely do this. I've done it before, several times. You simply tell the CM at the elevator that you would like to get a table at the bar. It's not an uncommon request, and they're more than happy to send you up.

We've done that a number of times in the past (and actually prefer the lounge chairs to the tables, especially when they are by the windows) but I didn't know if it was still possible to do that currently. I'm glad it it is! Thanks!:sohappy:

This amazes me... they let you on the elevator from the 2nd floor without a res?

Believe me, I leave nothing up to chance, so we definitely had a reservation that night and elevator access wasn't an issue. The subject came up because we were telling her we'd never been to Cali Grill before, but after seeing it and hearing about the incredible sushi, we wished we'd made another reservation for later in the week. That's when she filled us in on the bar area "no reservation needed" secret. And she told us basically the same thing about about the elevator issue - just tell the concierge you're going up to sit at the bar.

I'm thinking the bar fills up around Wishes time and it might be a gamble on whether you get on the elevator during that time. It was November two years ago we were down for a wedding and some of our party decided to try and go watch Wishes at the bar at the California Grill but it was packed and they weren't allowed to go up, at least that was what they told us the next day.

My husband and I did this in August and it was so much fun. We were staying at BLT and around 9pm we asked to go to the bar and they let us up.
