Poseidon’s Fury at Universal’s Islands of Adventure Closing Permanently May 9, 2023.

WondersOfLife

Blink, blink. Breathe, breathe. Day in, day out.
On a side note-- I wonder what the possibility would be of Zelda taking over Poseidon and Mytho's just remaining as Mytho's... The literal name "The Lost Continent" could still work for all I know with a combination of not just Zelda in the land...

If the area becomes home to a Zelda attraction, the entire area will absolutely be absorbed. There wouldn't be enough left to justify keeping it as anything else. -and Universal isn't going to miss the chance to turn Mythos into the next "impossible to get" theme park reservation by not giving it a Zelda overlay.

It's almost certain that the last remnants of the land focused on myth and legend will, itself, fade into myth and legend. As one of probably 5 people on planet Earth who aren't a fan Zelda (though I love a lot of other Nintendo titles), it bums me out. But I get it. Zelda is one of the "Nintendo Tri-Force" (Mario/Zelda/Poke'mon) and now that Uni is starting to see return on investment with Super Nintendo World and the Mario movie, it makes perfect sense for them to be scheming something up with it.

Which gives me hope that this should be another FAST update/creation :)

This would be great, but I doubt we'd see anything before 2026. Opening next year would be too soon. The Dreamworks area in Uni will be the new attraction for that summer. 2025 belongs to Epic Universe. Then they'll need to start work on bringing people back to the first two parks in 2026.

It’s worth noting that the two defunct attractions, and eating a little into backstage, nets a 4.5 acre land total, even with extra room to account for backstage facilities and rerouting the backstage road.

4.5 acres is roughly the same same as the shoe buildings for both Rise and Falcon combined, so they have sufficient space to make something incredible, and that’s even without touching the existing quick-service and shops.

I really liked Poseidon's Fury. I will really miss the water tunnel!

Believe it or not, the water tunnel is one the reasons I decided to visit to Orlando for the first time. During my high school years, I had really started getting into the theme park scene online (videos/forums), reading Imagineering books and exploring the various histories of and attraction offerings outside of SoCal.

Among the myriad of online videos that made me go "Wooahh, I'd really love to see that someday" was Poseidon's Fury. While some of the effects featured within are more commonplace these days, the reveal of the final show scene and the water tunnel just before it really sparked a sense of wonder and awe in me. Even if much of the show itself is admittedly cheesy. I just knew that once I graduated, getting to Florida and walking through that tunnel was something I had to do.

I thought it wasn't bad attraction when I first went to Universal Last year. I'm guessing Universal wants IOA to have something big when Epic Universe opens in 2025. Zelda Land would not be a bad idea for attraction guests when Epic Universe opens. If it is a Zelda land, I bet its caused by the success of the Super Mario movie and how popular Super Nintendo Land is in Japan and in Hollywood.
Peculiar timing to pull the trigger on this. I mean if we're being honest this probably should've happened already, especially with Sindbad lying dormant for several years, but with Epic under construction, Poseidon just having undergone a refurbishment, and USF needing new attractions more than IOA, it just feels... weird. I can only assume this really will be Zelda, because Universal seeing the returns on their Mario investments is the only potential catalyst that would make sense of this timing. I still wonder what sort of timetable this project is on however. Will they actually get to work quickly or pull a Disney?
I am under the impression that Universal wants to wait to do big things at USF, but for a good reason. I am pointing to USF having changes to Kidszone and we know about the new Minion attraction opening this year. The problem right now with USF is Universal contract with Simpsons till 2028. Race through new york starring Jimmy Fallon and Fast & Furious- Supercharged are too new to be replaced.

Universal scrapped the plan of using Fear Factor area for a Harry Potter attraction last year and I don't think Universal created a plan yet what to put in the Fear Factor Space.

The backstage building you've drawn a line through is very important and won't be being demolished. However, the trailers on the right could easily be relocated.

This map might be a little over-zealous, but we're looking at up to about 5.75 acres here:

They would likely keep the current main path where it is and put construction walls up blocking off this whole piece of land. Mythos, FireEaters, and the rest of the structures on the other side would likely just be re-themed. The backstage access road gate could just be moved North. If they did use this much land, they would have to also move the boat launch ramp, but I imagine that's not impossible.

Edit: Even without backstage trailer section to the right, it's still about 5.3 acres.

Well, with no area with mythological creatures here at Universal anymore...Perhaps Disney can do a bigger and Better Beastly Kingdom section at AK..The Dragon head is still up at the ticket booth and still proudly In the middle of the logo of the park..

Could you imagine? Some of the original BK team went on to develop Dueling Dragons and the Lost Continent. Way to bring it full circle.

You also have to wonder if it will stick with the reading material theme the islands were themed for in the first place..Or just go "forget it.....Were bringing Hyrule into the islands for a Legend of Zelda section."

Personally, I wish they'd go all the way and do Pokemon... THAT would be epic.
They're doing Pokemon, we just don't know where or when, but it was already announced as a vague "coming soon" for Japan. Personally I want it in the expansion plot between Nintendo & Monsters. It just makes the most sense, even if it doesn't force people to visit multiple parks.

No mythological creatures? Literally all three Universal parks will have dragons in them.

Are you familiar with that backstage building’s particular purpose?

I know they’re moving a lot of non-park essential back of house to the Epic plot, which should free up expansion land at both parks (but primarily Universal Studios park), wasn’t sure if this was one of those movable buildings.
