Port Orleans Riverside

Hello

We will be staying at Port Orleans Riverside in September for the first time. We were wondering if their were any special features or neat things at the resort we needed to be on the look out for, or to avoid. Our girls are ages 5 and 3.

Thanks

Port Orleans is Great!

My family & I stayed at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort last June.
It was great!
There is a Fishin' Hole for the kids.
There were rabbits that hopped in & out of the foilage all around the resort.
The nearby French Quarter Resort has a pool w/ a dragon slide.
Also, the French Quarter Resort has a food court decorated Mardi Gras style & the servers were very friendly.
They even gave the kids some Mardi Gras beads.:ROFLOL:
At Port Orleans Riverside, our housekeeper arranged the stuffed animals each day in a different setting for the kids (once they were arranged as if they were sitting beside a pool & another time they were arranged on the bed w/ Mickey holding the TV remote).
The kids loved it!:sohappy:
We also loved the boat ride that you can take from Port Orleans to Downtown Disney (it is very scenic).
We did not get a chance to eat at the Port Orleans Riverside Resort during our stay, but the food sure smelled good.
They also have a nice souvenir shop near the lobby.
The Riverside Resort was very quiet, even though we stayed there during the peak season.
Everyone was helpful & friendly.
I would definitely recommend Port Orleans Riverside!:)

I stayed with my family at POR (Which was then Dixie Landings) when I was 5.

I loved it :) I have some of the fondest memories of that resort, and getting to chase the little lizards around, which amused me to no end. We absolutely love Boatwrights for breakfast, and still make our way over there at least once every trip. The great thing about POR is that there is more than one pool, so chances are you won't have to hike all the way to the main area to go for a swim. Although the main island pool is cool.

I highly recommend taking your time and walking around the resort and looking at the gardens and fountains, they're really nice.

But overall, have a great trip, POR is a great resort

POR is my absolute favorite resort, hands down! If you feel like spending the money, you can take the family on a horse-drawn carriage ride around the grounds after dark - gorgeous!

Make sure to ride the boat transportation to Downtown Disney - even more fun at sunset, or after dark.

The food court has lots of choices (especially important when you're traveling with kids) :animwink: , and the pool is great. There are "quiet" pools as well, if your kids don't like crowds. All in all, a great resort!

Have a great trip!

They have one of the largest resort gift shops I've seen. There is a wide variety of merchandise there. It's a nice way to do your souvenir shopping without cutting into your park time.

Try to take at least one day to relax and enjoy the resort. It has such a relaxing quality to it, makes a nice contrast to busy park days. The boat to DTD is nice but don't expect to get there quickly, it's a slow leisurely ride!

Enjoy your trip!

I second seeing Bob the piano player. :sohappy: He is awsome and very entertaining. Your kids will love him. I believe he plays Wed - Sat nights starting at 8:30pm. It's a little late for kids, but worth it to listen for a half an hour or so. We usually shut the place down. We love the Mississippi Mudslides. :slurp:

I love POR. Everyone has pretty much mentioned most everything to do there. THe boat to DTD, Bob the piano man is great and the kids love him..he will involve the kids in his show at some point, pool is fun, food court is good, and the grounds are beautiful. Not as hectic as the Allstars or POP (we used to stay in those till we discovered POR), Have a great time!

Hurricane Bob!!! He's the best - not to be missed - and the kids (if they can stay awake late enough) will not be hearing anything they shouldn't, either - it's a family show. :sohappy:

I agree with the others you need to plan a night to see Bob. He put on a great show and my kids talk about him all the time. When talk of returning to Disney comes up they insist we schedule a night to see Bob.

As a lifelong resident of the real New Orleans, and having stayed at both Port Orleans resorts, I can safely say, they are magnificent.

I like French Quarter better because it is a little more compact...and it reminds me more of home...but Riverside IS superbly themed...it really captures the antebellum home architecture...a true credit to Disney theming.

Port Orleans French Quarter's food court is very good. They try to approximate New Orleans food very well. The gumbo is not even close...but Disney did its best...and I had a bowl.

The beignets are good...not as the real thing...the real thing is a little more puffy...but the overall the resorts are terrific...ENJOY!

My family and I have stayed at Port Orleans Riverside countless times (we still think of it as its old name of Dixie Landings!)
We love it there. The resort is themed so well. It is great to just spend an afternoon or evening walking around the property or renting a bike and riding in between Riverside and te French Quarter. You have to take the boat ride transportation to Down Town Disney from here. It is fantastic. It is comfortable and has great scenery.
Also, the food court, that just went through a remodel, at Riverside has great options. We haven't been there in a few years, but their pizza, chicken and sandwiches are must haves.
The main pool is great! It is large enough to accomodate the size of the hotel and they have a great pool bar with snacks and drinks. The service here is very good!
On evenings at Riverside, the hotel bar hosts a great performer that is suitable for all family members. He sings great songs, jokes around and gets the audience involved. If you stay in at your hotel one night, check him out if he is still there.
The bus transportation is typically quick as well. Sometimes during the morning rush, it is easiest to grab breakfast at the food court and hop on a bus from the main building instead of at the stops throughout the property.
Have a great trip. You will love it!
