Port Orleans French Quarter

We're consideing staying at Port Orleans French Quarter on our next trip to WDW in 2008. We've always stayed at the Wilderness Lodge but with the ever increasing rates, we find we're slowly being priced out of the Wilderness Lodge and find ourselves having to consider other, less expensive hotels. We've never stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter and are curious about the resort. We'd be looking at being there in November/December 2008. Any information you could give us would be greatly appreciated.

I recommend reading the fact sheet at allearsnet:

that will provide you with most information you will need to know. For guest experiences there is also a review section.

We just picked this for our trip next year. We too love WL. We had hoped to try AKL, but the prices did keep us away. Many people here love FQ. I have never stayed there, but have heard great things. I know it's smaller than Riverside. I know that when the resorts share buses the 1st pick up is a FQ. Expect lots of responses, I always see lots of posts when people ask about Port Orleans.

I stayed for the first time in Dec 2006. We loved it! It's a small resort so it's not far to the main building or bus stop no matter what building you are in. We were in Building 4 and would request that one again. It was right beside both the food court and buses. It's also so quiet and peaceful there. My dd ended up sick. We went back to the resort 2 days for naps and had no problem falling asleep.

I have already check out POFQ quite thoroughly both through Allearsnet and Birnbaum's guide and the Passporter. I'm looking for input from those on here that have stayed at FQ in the past.

I never stayed at FQ, but we love Riverside. It is so beautiful and peaceful. The bus situation isn't as bad as I'd heard it would be. If FQ is like POR, you'll really enjoy it! You might want to consider POR....

Did you read the user reviews on allearsnet as well? They are quite informative as to the goods and bads of people's stay there. I would recommend it if you haven't yet.

Enjoy :)

As I said we have thoroughly checked it out on All Ears Net. Reviews and everything. I wanted input from the people here on the boards as well since that is the purpose of the boards.

For those that have given responses, thanks. Please keep them coming. We'd love to hear more.

I have stayed at both FQ and RS many times and absolutely love both. I like RS a little better but that is simply because it has a TS restaurant (Boatwright's) and a food court where FQ only has a food court. Both resorts have great theming and transportation (boat to DTD is a huge plus) and unlike the other moderates they are not so spread out. IMHO it is a slight step down from WL but at 1/3 to 1/2 the cost it is the best room value on property.

Things my family loves about POFQ are:
1. The pool
2. The food court is really pretty good
3. Small size
4. Boat to DTD

The only drawback for us at POFQ for us is that we've outgrown the rooms, because we've got 4 kids now, but when they're old enough to be in their own, connecting room, we will probably be back.

We have stayed at the POFQ several times. It is one of our favorite hotels and we will be staying there again. It is a great hotel if you have kids.

My niece went on her honeymoom and stayed at Wilderness Lodge in 2003. After seeing the photos and hearing about the resort, we planned our first trip! and stayed there in 2004. We enjoyed the convenience of the water launch to Magic Kingdom, the pool, and the beautiful 'woodsy' feel of the resort. We returned there in 2006 because we were hooked, or so we thought. Now, with the way that Disney prices are going...the French Quarter is looking like the resort of choice. It is smaller than Riverside, Coronado, or Caribbean, and the transportation option of a water launch to Downtown Disney is always a plus. We look forward to checking into the French Quarter in 2008......maybe...hopefully....I have my fingers crossed.!!...wish us well.

We have stayed at POR, but not POFQ.
We did walk around POFQ during our visit & it looked very nice.
We also ate at the food court at POFQ.
The food was good & the service was great.
It is decorated in a Mardi Gras theme.
I think you will enjoy it!

Hey, you know where you can find great info about POFQ? Allearsnet.com!

juuuuuust kidding. Put the gun down. :D

Anyway, like Thinktink, I've never stayed there, but have visited a few times and eaten at the food court when staying next door at Riverside. While I think Riverside is more to my liking, I don't think I'd pitch a fit if I stayed at FQ. The grounds are quite nice, I just like Riverside more. Apparently, FQ is also more convenient when it comes to bus service, as they only have one stop on the grounds, and often pick people up there before going to Riverside (which results in a lot of Riverside guests having to stand for the trip to the park du jour).

DW and I stayed at Port Orleans French Quarter over Christmas and New Years this past year. We had an extremely late check in (about 4:00 a.m...due to flight delays), but the staff was still very courteous.

Only one time did a cast member act kind of nasty, and it wasn't so much nasty as uncooperative. Maybe she was having a bad day. Also, I called and asked for a late check out, and they said no. My wife called a few minutes later and they said yes. Maybe I sounded like a jerk!

But that is the worst I can say about the resort.

It is excellently themed. I live in the New Orleans, so I can safely say that it was like I was visiting the French Quarter (but less drunks and a better smell).

The staff was very accomodating for our room (I was temporarily diabled and needed a motorized scooter, that I rented from an outside company). We requested a first floor room, near the main building and received it!

Its a small resort, so during the Christmas holidays the buses picking people up from the resort were usually filled but never a long wait. Of course the return bus at the end of the day would be filled and sometimes you would have to wait a little while, but that is to be expected.

The food court is great. Of course, being from New Orleans, the food that is unique to New Orleans that they serve there, i.e. Gumbo, Beignets, etc. was just not the same. Still, I give Disney and A for effort. The regular food (burgers, cheese steak sandwhiches, pizza were all good.

I can't say enough good things about the resort. When I return, I may not stay there, for no other reason than, I would like to try some of the other resorts.

You have made a great choice staying at POFQ. Its a great resort.

We loved POFQ. There are 2 or 3 old threads on the virtues of POFQ v. POR. We liked the pool, the small size, the theming, and most of all the bus service. It's especially quick to MK.

I am so glad you started this thread! I will be staying the FQ for the first time Dec 2007. Reading your feedback, I am feeling really good about my decision.

Maybe having another opinion why I choose it would give you little extra peace of mind. IMO it is an affordable option without loosing the extras. I am not sold on ever staying at a Disney value resort. POFQ&R do not have as many extras like the Disney luxury resorts, but more than the other mods and value resorts. Other Mods do not have a theme pool and thought my daughter would really enjoy the waterslide. It is smaller and still convenient. The boat ride to DTD and the carriage rides. They have the water sprites, I think disney calls them something else now. (those little boats for two.) And the beignets (have to admit it!) There is also a treasure cruise for kids that is not available at many of the other resorts. When I called Disney to make my reservation, I talked to an EXTREMELY helpful castmember, I was all set on the CBR. I used to work there and it is my comfort zone. The CM sold me on the FQ. I am very much looking forward to my trip and my first stay away from CBR.

I've stayed at both French Quarter and Riverside and personally preferred FQ but only because of the theming (I love New Orleans). It's a very pretty resort, and the boat can take you to Riverside for Boatwrights in just a few minutes or you can stroll the walkway by the water. I highly recommend it! The beignets in the food court are definitely not the same as the real thing at Café Du Monde in N.O. but when you live in FL beggars can't be choosers  I've been known to go there just for the beignets!!:slurp:
