POR with minimal walking

Good morning! We are planning our very first Disney World trip for this February. I have a special needs child and will also be traveling with 3 grandparents, all who have difficulty walking. Can anyone recommend a good location in POR that is most convenient to the food court and the transportation? Any suggestions appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to the boards.

Looks like Building 14 (Alligator Bayou section) is closest to the main building, and also very close to the main pool as well as being near a quiet pool. You should also call ahead and explain your situation, the CM may have better suggestions, and if you tell them what you wrote here regarding your family's needs, they'll note it on the reservation and during check-in will try to provide you with the most appropriate room they have open at the time.

Bear in mind, being that close to the main building, the trade off is more people walking past your building, and thus the potential for more noise.

Have you given any thought to switching to French Quarter...much small property and most all the building are close to everything. Either way i agree with above post. Call and talk to a CM and give them the run down of your needs and they will everything they can to see it happens!! Good Luck and have a magical first trip.

This past November we were in Building 85. This was a great location! You can hardly see it on the map but there is a smaller pool right beside the building and there is a bus stop right behind the building. It's a short walk to the main building..like 5 minutes...we went down one flight of stair (that faced the river) made a right then a left over the bridge around the main pool area, over another bridge and Bam! main building.. However these rooms only sleep 4 , so if you have more then you will be in the alligator bayou section. Also I would recomend requesting a handicap room since these are normally closer and on the first floor. I believe only the 3 story buildings on property have elevators.

If you're looking for a specific building, then I second the vote for #14. We stayed there once, and didn't have any issues with noise (though we were on the side facing away from the parking lot). The back entrance to the food court is right down the walkway, and it's a quick walk over to the South Depot bus stop using the cut-through walkway from the parking lot near Building 14.

There's been talk about the new Preferred Location rooms at POR, but noone has come up with a specific list of which buildings/rooms this category encompasses.

We've also stayed in Builidng 27 and Magnolia Terrace (Building 85), both were very convenient, but not quite as convenient as 14.

Stayed in bldg 16 last year, still a very close walk to food court, and also next to pool. We had a little noise from people swimming in the pool late on our first night, but other than that we found it very quiet, and weren't bothered at all from noise from foot traffic.

But I agree, building 14 would be your ideal choice.

We've stayed in 14 and 16, both are close. 14, perfect.

Let them know! They have "premium" rooms that are close, and handicap rooms on the first floor of 14.

Really--talk to Disney and they'll get it taken care of for you. But building 14 is the ticket for you!

Buildings 14 and 18 are my favorite, along with 16. 14 is going to be your closest, and we would stay in 16 or 18 to be closer to the pool. Either way, you're going to love it. POR is my favorite resort!

Definately 14, we stayed there in May and have requested it for our Sept trip. It is a preferred room and will cost extra, but you can't beat the location. Two minute walk to bus stop, one minute walk to food court. All times are approximate of course.

I believe that the preferred rooms are in buildings 14,15,18 &27, and they run about 25.00 more a night, but it is so worth it. Last year we were in building 16 and it was also great. :)
