Pop Warner problems...again!

Disney should start (if they're not doing this already) initiating huge cash deposits for each team going to Pop Warner, and coupling that with a zero-tolerance policy. If security has to be called for any reason on a Pop Warner team, THAT team forfeits its deposit, or at least, fine ar taken out of the deposit depending on the transgression (is it just a noise problem? Or did they do physical damage that requires Mousekeeping or even repair people?). Likewise, if Disney has to relocate other paying guests because of the noise problems caused by Pop Warner, then the money used to move those guests should be taken out of that team's or teams' deposit. And if something happens that can be attributed to a Pop Warner problem, but no one can be sure which team it is, each team's deposit takes a hit.

While I like this idea plenty, I feel that it is far too confrontational for the folks at Disney management. I don't believe that they have the nerve to take such a stand against a group that consistently brings them so much yearly business. It almost seems as though they took a survey a some time, and found that most guests hated the Pop-Warner groups, but not enough to stop going to the World. It's as though they feel that the lemmings will continue to patronize their resorts regardless of the occasional brats.

It would have to do with not thinking that disney would allow hundreds of under supervised kids on property, disrupting the hotels and resorts and causing profitable guests to rethink repeat trips.

Disney should do more, but my point was that I don't feel bad for the OP or anyone else who knew pop warner would be there and knew the problems but still booked a trip during the same time and at the resorts they knew they were at. It's harsh I know, but it is just reflective of the growing sense of entitlement. If I am booking a trip during that time and Pop Warner bothers me I sure as heck am not going to stay at one of their resorts and if I do, I am not going to come here and complain about what I knew would happen.

I had an issue with kids when I stayed at Pop back in July. granted not a whole football team but still about 4-5 of them running rampant at like 1am. I eventually went out and strategically set it up to step out and have of the kids to run into me when he came by (Id certainly win that fight, Im 6'3" 320 pounds lol) As I stepped out a kid about 10 years old ran right into my side and hit the ground. I just gave them a mean look, that ended their fun.

Because people should just bend right over and take it up the tailpipe because you don't want to hear about it?

People shouldn't have to change their travel plans because some parent's do a pi$$ poor job of raising their children and because some chaperones don't feel like containing the kids. My daughter is 10 and is a cheerleader and she NEVER behaves the way that some of these other kids do. As a matter of fact, at cheer events, if they start acting up she will walk away from them until they calm down.

Please allow me to add my two cent, as a lover of all things Disney and as a Pop Warner Parent.
I cannot speak nor do I speak for the Pop Warner organization, but I will say that the organization holds its coaches, players and yes the players parents to some pretty strict codes of conduct and does hold those people accountable when the information is known. As with any incident information and the reporting of that information is the key. If you see inappropriate behavior (swearing, being bullies, ect), stop those offending and demand to speak to their coaches or at least get team name (most will be wearing something from the team) and offender descriptions or names and then give that information to someone (the coaches, chaperones, Pop Warner, Disney or the police). That is the only way the situation can be resolved, and ask for a follow-up.
Children will be children especially away from their parents but they also need rules to follow and following rules and guidelines is part of what Pop Warner tries to instill in these children. But it is also up to us as adults to hold the children accountable to the rules and guidelines. It takes a village to raise a child!
I remember as trip to the Magic Kingdom as a early teen (13ish), when my friend and I were given the opportunity to 'run' the park by ourselves. During that time we were swearing and from out of no where a cast member came up to us and told us that it was a 'family park and that swearing was not acceptable'. I can bet we were not happy but we probably did not openly swear again that day.

And that is my two cents!

I appreciate your sharing your insight with the group. However, that's an awful lot of recon & reporting to have to take time out of a family's vacation because someone else's kid won't behave appropriately. That's kinda unfair. The point is that it's wrong for someone else's poorly behaved children to be a problem to others to begin with. As for it taking a village, I feel like my children are my responsibility and I would never ask or expect another person to carry any of the duties in raising them that belong to me. I've been around a few Pop Warner teams in a few cities in addition to experiencing numerous teams in the Disney Parks. I've seen those villages. Thanks but no thanks.

I understand that, most people by nature would avoid pain and displeasure. It sucks for the one commenter that was at port Orleans and had to deal with these kids, pop warner and disney should be having all of the teams in one hotel to minimize any problems to other guests. I also wonder if the prices for hotels in the first half of December are the lowest because people in know avoid the park.

Laying in bed at All Star Sports at 12:20am. Disney Security finally taking care of the mongrels. Yelling, screaming, running up and down the halls, no supervision, and every other word is the f-bomb. Called front desk and about 5minutes later I hear someone yell to get back on their rooms. That lasted about 2 minutes. Called again, same results. Called again and now they are all running back and forth between the rooms and its 11:30pm. Called AGAIN. This time Disney Security showed up in force. I could hear them talking outside my window and I went to talk to them. They caught a bunch of them in the stairwell. Now they are making the coaches do a he'd count, but I can hear the coaches saying that when they knock on doors, nobody answers. This is just fantastic.

So no sleep and they can't round up all the kids so they can put an end to it. I change my vacation date a week later just so I wouldn't have to put up with this crap, so much for that. I'm thoroughly ed at the 2 hour response and inability of these Pop Warner coaches to be able to keep their flock in check. I think its like 3 coaches and ZERO parents with this team.

I'm so sorry that you have to deal with this...I can't imagine being on a amazing Disney vacation only to have little inbreds ruining it....I would be livid. The management is pretty understanding during this time of the year when the morons invade the parks, so I would definitely talk to them about getting moved. Good luck and please try and not let them ruin such a fantastic place for you...just make sure to avoid them at all cost when scheduling next time!

So your suggestion is that everyone at the resort should babysit these kids?! It takes 2 parents to raise a child and from what I have seen and heard, the vast majority of the Pop Warner parents have a very very long way to go....

it is, but your comment also mentioned them swearing up a storm and yelling. Hank doesn't allow that behavior on rainy street.

No, I didn't. No where in my posts did I say they were swearing or yelling. In my first post I said they were outside their room, not swearing or yelling, but simply there looking trashy.

I don't think that was the suggestion at all. But everyone is griping on what Disney should do or what Pop Warner should do, but neither may really be aware of the problems, other than a few isolated incidents that are made known to them. It seemed to me that the poster made a suggestion as to how to proceed to get more effective results if there is a problem.

I dunno, I'm fairly sure Disney & Pop Warner are fully aware of the nightmare the kids are. This isn't the first year for this event and every year since we experienced it (2007) I've been aware of the numerous issues with many, many multiples of phone calls, emails, etc. It's kinda hard to miss the problem that those kids create for Disney, PW, & guests.

Having dealt with these little darlings and the "Cheer moms" on our flight down, I can tell you NOTHING stops them. The moms can be just as bad. At least our flight attendants didn't stand for the shouting to people in other parts of the plane.

I don't know why Disney keeps allowing them to stay on property if they have this kind of issue. I don't care if it's the money they get, I would think all the complaints would be enough to say "Our regular guest complaints have been more than enough. You guys are not allowed to stay on property."

They are nothing but a nuisance and I will not go back down there at the time we went last week. We stayed at SSR, but ran into these hoards in the parks doing their cheers, blocking walkways and generally running amok.

We ate at Mama Melrose on Wednesday night. Our waitress (who was fantastic and I wish I could remember her name) told us the park would close early but try and catch the lights. We asked why the park was closing early and she said, "Pop Warner has something going on. They only just told us this morning. I can't stand those kids and to be truthful, the moms and coaches are worse." She informed us the park would be refusing to sell alcohol to the adults/coaches after an 'incident' last year.

Wow, that is kind of a blanket statement about Pop Warner parents, do you feel the same about most parents then? I'm sorry you never were a child away from your parents, it was quite fun!

Another note about this event that most posters do not realize, a VERY, VERY small portion of Pop Warner attends. Out of our organization within Pop Warner, none of our 6 teams advanced to that level and within our district of 13 organizations and about 78 teams only one team advanced to that level. There were fewer than 100 football teams (82 from their website) in attendance at Disney thats 4 more teams than there are in our divison alone.

Truth.

It's also a somewhat self-fulfilling selection: those who are good enough are also selective and full of those kinds of self centered individuals (adults and kids.)

Not all Pop Warner groups are bad, but most bad sports groups are Pop Warner.

People ask why does Disney put up with this?
I ask a few questions:
Was it all 82 team that misbehaved?
I also want to know what would you suggest a hotelier do? They have say 100 rooms to fill nightly with x amount of employees to pay along with power, water, mortgage, insurance and on and on that you have to somehow pay for and then try to make a profit.
It is an ecconomically sound decission to take groups especially during slower times of the year. Hoteliers around the world do it.
Disney has thousands of rooms to fill nightly and unfortunately transient guests (Joe Vacationers) are not going to fill them all. Rude behavior unfortunately is not going to make Disney stop taking the Pop Warners, the Brazillions, the Gay Days or any other group for that matter as long as they are not physically harmfull to guests, property or cast members.

I pretty much agree on all points. One change I would like to see change is for Disney to adopt a little more of a zero tolerance policy regarding conduct at the resorts. If there is a 10:00 PM curfew for un-escorted kids then it should be enforced.... harshly. All it will take is consistently sending teams home that violate it to solve the problem.

Have you ever heard of fist fights breaking out at little league baseball or hockey games? I have.

Its not just kids however, I think we all have not acted ourselves at some time in our lives when on vacation or outings away from our normal lives (had a little too much to drink, acted like you are the only one that matters, been obnoxious to others, running over people in your electric wheelchair, pushed infront of others to see the parade, ect.). Granted in this day and age where if you look at someone the wrong way you could be stabbed or shot its difficult but someone has to stand up to others and explain what they did was unacceptable.
