just about to book to go 'home' next year have done all stars music and movies, which i love as they have a disney feel about them, how does pop compare? is there disney stuff around the resort or just generic retro stuff? is it nearer parks than the all stars?
whats first 2 weeks like of june for crowds, and hows the weather then?

You should definately try Pop Century if you've already stayed at the All Stars. The all stars do have more of a disney theme than Pop does, but you will still get that disney feeling at Pop. We love the 50's section...not far from the main building at all. Pop is more spread out than the all stars, which is something that I like because it doesn't feel as congested. The food court at Pop is better in my opinion. I think the grounds are beautiful and you can get some great pictures at Pop...there are walkways with signs along the way with facts from the Classic years. Pop runs on its own bus system, as opposed to the all stars which sometimes or most of the time share busses and it can get crowded or have long waits. I think Pop is closer to all of the parks, the bus rides were always short...but of course the all stars are closer to AK and Blizzard Beach. I have never been there in the beginning of June so I really couldn't tell ya what the crowds or weather are like at that time of year... we always go in the fall.

IMO, Pop whoops all the ASR's butt. It has a better location, you will never have to share a bus, better food court, better store and a better layout. I think of Pop as the improvement on the ASR. Disney learned its lesson and applied the changes to Pop. Plus, Pop is the only resort you can get frozen coke for you refillable mug. :animwink:

^^I agree with Krankenstein. Having stayed at all of the All-Stars and Pop, the improvements from "lessons learned" are a benefit of staying at PC. It's my preferred resort since I spend most of my time in the parks (all rooms look alike with your eyes closed - sleeping).

As for the weather and crowds at the end of June - I never go during the summer. Have you looked at the crowd calendar at www.touringplans.com?

That's reason enough to pick POP right there! :king:

I will agree with everyone else, go for Pop. I have stayed at values, moderates, and deluxe resorts at WDW, and Pop is one of my favorites. The atmosphere is different than any other value, in a good way.

The location is not all that much different, although Pop is in more of a central location when you compare the two. As others have pointed out, the buses for Pop are much better as they are not being shared between three resorts like they are with the ASRs. From my perspective the resorts are pretty much the same as far as amenities and rooms go, aside from theming. I would opt for Pop, especially because you have not stayed there yet.

As far as weather in June, it is hot and will likely rain at least a little bit every day. Crowds will be pretty average. June is definitely not the slow season but it's nothing like the holiday seasons bring.

Hello, POP seems to be located in just the right location to get to just about anywhere quickly. Because we are hardly ever in our rooms, I prefer staying at the POP over the moderates because of the outstanding transportation. Getting to and from the parks and other WDW properties quickly is the key to maximizing park time. The food court is also better than the AS. It has a couple different pools, but as another thread states, you can always pool hop to another resort to try out another pool. lol. MikeB

Pop does not have family suites. However you can get two rooms for less than the cost of a suite at AS Music. Just make sure you ask for connecting rooms. Adjoining rooms are different, they don't have a door between the rooms. I don't think you will be sorry for choosing Pop.

Please look at the bus situation:

All Star Resorts will pick up and drop off people from all of the AS resorts to wherever you are going. Sometimes during peek weeks each AS resort will have their own bus.

Pop Century has it's own bus. But I've waited over 1 1/2 hours to get a ride back to Pop from MK more than once.

Best bet: If you stay in a value resort during peek times, rent a car. You will save so much time and frustration getting from one place to another. Then again, the $$ used for renting a car can be put to stay at a Moderate resort (like CSR) where the buses are less crowded.

I've noticed the bus situation at Pop Century as well (and a little bit of the All Star Resorts too).

It seems even though they have their own bus, they seem to take a long time in picking you up and many times double up where two buses for the same park will show up at the same time.

I loved it!!!!:sohappy: The food court was nice and having the gift shop right in the same area made it easy to pick up that last minute thing like sun screen you forgot to put on before leaving the room. You'll find some Disney icons with some of the buildings (Lady & Tramp at the 50's, Mowgli and Baloo by the 60's). You have to try at the Food Court the twinkie tiramisu & tie-dyed cheesecake. :slurp: The 50's buildings are nice and have a great view of SSE at the end of Building #2. The only drawback is if you have a lake view room you see the unfinished Legendary buildings across the lake.

The bus routes are great for the most part because they only pick up and drop off at Pop. When you go to the All-Stars they pick up for the three resorts and if you happen to be at Movies you're the last off a very crowded bus. There is a little bit longer wait from MK to Pop but it is worth it some nights when you know it is straight to the resort.

As a whole, I will use that resort again and maybe see what the view is from one of the other buildings.
