Pop Century Room Rehab

A poster on another message board posted some updates about the room refurbishments. They didn't have any pictures yet, but their detailed observations (after looking into a room from about 10' outside the door) were that the room looked very much like the pictures floating around of the test/sample room. It looked like rooms 8101-8112 were complete except for needing a mattress on the queen bed -- and potentially things in the bathroom since that area wasn't visible from the door. Hopefully pictures will start appearing soon!

I'm not sure if I can link the exact thread here but it's not hard to find -- it's on a DISney message board where they are discussing Pop Century Room Renovations.

You can link any site you want to from here, if it's the one site you are not supposed to link to, the link will just be blocked.

I love Pop Century and hope these rooms only improve the experience of staying there! I personally liked the old rooms, but that's probably mostly nostlagia. Some TLC will likely help.

Also, I assume these opened very recently and/or are not very widespread through resort yet.

Also, what was the new design on the room number plaque beside the door. I couldn't quite make out what it was, maybe leaves from Jungle Book and 60s area?

The first finished rooms just opened today. It will be about a year until the entire resort is finished.

Do you mean the ones from the older post -- showing room numbers 8110 & 8111? If so, those are roller blades -- take a step back to see them. :)

I've seen pics, I am intrigued. While the lack of color is disturbing, with the murphy bed down there is a nice mural of Pluto that adds a pop. Also, no other visible artwork so far. The beds look comfortable, the shower has a glass sliding door, the nozzle has a stationary and a detachable head (Yeah! Two!) The amount of shelves and storage space (cubbies?) is like 5 times what is in there now, so yesssss to that. The amount of closet space, however, looks like it's a third of what it was, since there is an ironing board on the wall now (between closet and more cubbies) so if you have bulky warm clothes - you'll have to shove them in said cubby. An iron is provided, along with a coffee maker, and a full length mirror on the pocket door into the bathroom. The floor looks to be vinyl plank, read that one person had black socks after walking around on it since she couldn't tell it was dusty. So, don't wear white socks. Or stop at a store for a Swiffer wet jet.

I am waiting for someone here to post photos. That site requires you to register in order to view the photos and personally I'd rather chew on a cactus. Just saying....

I hear ya. They're a different breed over there. I joined a long time ago -- before it was so crazy. Now I just lurk for the most part. Too much drama there and no real continuity to rule enforcement. I got my hand slapped there for innocently commenting about my experience with the QSDP and how numerous CMs had told us that all meals (kids & adults) were lumped together in one pool and we could order which ever type we wanted to (this was before that was the "official" rule.) Based on the lecture I got in a PM from the Moderator, you would have thought I came up with some scheme to get extra FPs with "ghost" accounts and unlinked Magic Bands and was telling everyone how to get around the rules....oh wait, *that* was allowed to be discussed prior to Wednesday. :D

We just stayed at Universal's Cabana Bay last week when we got into Orlando a night before our Disney reservation... At about the same price point as Pop Century or the All Star hotels, the rooms were beautiful, really well designed and comfortable. The Hotel itself was much nicer than the Disney Hotels...I was shocked to see. I hope the renovations to the rooms make them a bit more on par with what Universal is offering.

I'm very happy to hear that the rooms will now have a coffee maker. We would actually ship a cheap one from amazon to the resort because I find it difficult to get moving in the morning without coffee. There was also no way I could drink that nescafe garbage they had at the food court. :hungover:

I bailed from that site quite a while back because 3, yes 3 moderators jumped my case over comments I made about their site nailing down "official" MNSSHP dates they got from their "inside source". They did (do) this all the time and people plan their vacation dates around these. After the 3rd year of this and then the moderators altering the dates to the actual dates then claiming they never changed the dates and that I was lying I left. Not before posting a screenshot of the dates they originally had posted. They would have the Halloween and Christmas party dates posted in January and when they were released by Disney the dates would get changed because they were always really off target on the ones they published. It was funny at first but it just became absurd.

Sorry, back on topic...
Pop is our "go-to" resort of choice. Our kids have always loved it so we tend to stay there each trip if we can. I am excited for our upcoming trip but I am concerned about the beds. Are there still two queen and a Murphy?

POP has always had 2 double bed or king rooms, never 2 queens. :) These rooms have a queen and a murphy, that I believe is a double, not a queen. I am really looking forward to this configuration, because we are usually 2 people when we do stay at POP, so the table and 'extra space' is appreciated.

Yeah. I meant double. (Been looking at rooms in Gatlinburg and they are queens. :D ) We may stay away from these rooms now. :( My son will be 14 when we go next year and we really need a larger bed option for him besides a little twin bed. (He's 13 and already 5' 9")

The rooms look almost a similar style to Cabana Bay and the styling is nice and clean, not too cluttered or dated 90s like the original All Stars look.

The hard flooring is probably going to be good and clean, but might be noisy if there is a darling stomping in her plastic princess shoes in a room above!
