I am curious about the future of the family suites at Disney's Art of Animation Resort. Given the recent trend of resort reimagining through hotel room conversions, they would seem ideal for refurbishment and sale.

The family suites at AoA are some of the most popular rooms on property, and command a near-Deluxe price point while only requiring Value-level amenities and expectations.

They aren't going anywhere.

There was a time when Disney's Polynesian and Wilderness Lodge resorts maintained occupancy rates of 90% or greater and had the highest retention rates for returning guests. The inventories of both resorts were significantly reduced in favor of DVC conversions. Ten years ago, I highly doubt anyone would have anticipated the conversion of three longhouses or half of an entire resort.

I really like rooms. I just wish the walls weren't white.
Yes, they do give it a bit of a Hospital feel. That being said, I still like the look and have requested one for our trip in May...or at least an old room with a King. We'll see if either of those actually happen.

I really hope they stay regular rooms (not suites). It can already be difficult to book Pop and the family suites are so much more expensive. We had to switch to Sports last fall when Pop was excluded from free dining. We HATED Sports and will never stay in an All Star again. I would be really disappointed if our chances at staying in Pop were greatly reduced due to the suites.
Chances are post gondola 2020ish all pop/AoA rooms will be much more expensive than AllStars. More on par with what a mod would get now.

Availability at AoA seems extremely hard to come by the few times I've even considered it. Then I saw the price tag. No thanks. I'll just take a walk around the resort ... lol

When was Pop excluded from free dining? In a bounce back offer or 2016 fall free dining promo? Has that ever happened before? We were hoping to book Pop this year for the fall free dining, hope it's offered!

We had Pop booked for Sept 2016. When free dining was released last spring, Pop was technically included but when our TA tried to book it (at 4am the morning free dining was released for Visa card holders) there was no availability at Pop. She switched us to Sports. Several days later, availability did open up at Pop but my husband wanted to stay at Sports and save the extra money. It was a huge mistake.

I am so sorry! But, I will learn from your mistake and hold out for Pop. Thank you for sharing and saving the lives of others.... your suffering hath not been in vain. Bless you!

I guess it happens often. A certain hotel will show no availability so a large amount of people switch to another hotel. Then the first hotel suddenly has tons of space :) If you can't get Pop the day it is released, maybe switch somewhere else (if free dining is your top priority like it was for us) and keep checking Pop the next few days. Good luck!!! We LOVED the free quick service plan.

I have to say that we were going to buy vacation points and stay at AKL but on further discussion we decided to come back "home" to Pop..

Thanks for the pics! Not a fan of Murphy bed appearance and what appears to be white on white walls. Would be vastly improved with a little hint of color on walls. I know there have been complaints about the rooms resort wide being too dark in past, so perhaps they went to opposite extreme?

I do like the bed runner and the light fixture is kinda cool

White paint is cheapest in the 5 gallon buckets....

Much, much worse than anything I might possibly have expected.

Who designs these rehabs, and have they ever stayed in a hotel before, or perhaps even seen a hotel room in pictures? Because almost anyone could have done a better job. The refurbishment of the Grand Floridian made it more closely resemble a glorified Hampton Inn; Did they actually try to do a worse job here or something?

It's awful.

These are cost minimization designs designs which are cheapest to install and maintain

Ok, I am going to watch these boards and wait for good pics to start showing up of these rooms. And if I end up staying at Pop in Dec. and the rooms still look plain..... I am taking my own decorations to put up on all the walls! I usually do for the holidays anyways. Lights, door covers, window clings, garland, the works. I'll just put up big door covers on all the walls. Festive and colorful!

Overheard from one Mousekeeping staff to another: Hey, did this room always have a mural on the walls?
