Hi Everyone we are going to WDW in Sept and we have stayed at Pop Century 3 times in the last 2 years. We were wondering if we should try a different value resort like one of the All Stars or stick with the pop. We really liked it but maybe we are missing out on something??
Don't let the bussing situation steer you away from the All Stars... this has become one of the biggest misconceptions of the resorts.
We stayed at Pop in January and All Star Music in September. We weren't overly pleased with the service and experience we recieved at Pop, so wanted to try an All Star instead. We choose ASmu based on the new rooms and we loved every minute of our trip to the point where we almost felt spoiled.
The new rooms at ASmu made us feel like we had already gotten twice our money's worth compared to Pop. New carpet, linens, paint, decor, electonics and furniture plus added benefits like a privacy curtain in the vanity area and a small coat rack on the wall.
Our room (paid for preferred) was 3rd floor in Calypso facing the main pool and only a 90sec walk for us to walk out our room, down the stairs, and be standing at the beverage station at the food court. We overhead several guests commenting on how their standard rooms in the Jazz section were closer to the main building then the Preferred rooms they paid at Pop.
Each day at the pool they CMs played games and mainstream music. In the early evening they allowed guests to play Wii on the inflatable screen and each night they showed a Disney moving on the pool side screen. Life guards were always alert and were a blast to chat and interact with.
CMs were everywhere and mousekeeping was top notch. We recieved towel animals nearly every night and turn down service on departure night, a great ending to our trip! The food court is showing it's age but we preferred the offerings and were always able to find a seat. CMs kept the area very clean.
A huge concern with this resort for us was the busing situation, yet surprisingly we recieved just as good of service if not better than our experience at Pop. Upon leaving the resort, we had a dedicated resort bus on every trip but 2: one when trying to get to DTD and the other when trying to get Epcot in the mid afternoon.
When returning to the parks, ASmu had it's own stop at MK, DHS, and Epcot and shared at all other parks. Even when we shared, we only had to stop at ASsp and with the resorts so close together, it was extremely short (less than 5mins from entry to exit). We noticed that buses came to the All Star resorts faster than POR and Pop and during one night at Epcot closing, 3 buses came to our stop before one came to Pop.
We felt like an actual guest at ASmu, while we felt like just a "number" at Pop. After our stay we're having a hard time justifying the cost of a moderate/deluxe. We have no desire or plans to ever return to Pop, not until the rooms are renovated atleast, which I don't expect to happen for a while!
If you stay at the POP, avoid the pool side rooms! The music is played until very late at night, there is a lot of noise from the kids playing, and we didn't get any sleep until well after midnight. If you a light sleeper and are trying to get an early nights, this is something to think about. (We have stayed at the AS since).
