I have posted this before but here goes again. The United States Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville Alabama, has a ride called "g-force" all this ride consist of is a centerfuge. It spins you up about 3 or 4g's and for a lot longer and on top of that your leaned against a wall. This is a ROUGH ride! Although its not a simulator. This a spin off of a very old type of a real astronaut type trainer. I undrstand NO WAY does this ride have the traffic that MS has but still the point is This is a MEAN RIDE and much worse with A LOT more force than MS and I live rather close t Huntsville and never heard of anyone having problems. Again HELLO there is signs everywhere stating if you have health problems DO NOT RIDE. It like the warning on a hair dryer "DO NOT USE IN THE SHOWER OR BATH TUB" Guess what somebody had to at least try it sometime for the warning to be there!!!!!!!! Im also a UNION firefighter paramedic and this is a perfect example the Reedy Creek boys need more man power and MORE pay. Those Firemedics are the for YOU AND ME. We cant put a price on a life,BUT a local goverment can put a price on who is there to save YOURS! sorry thats a whole other post!

GOOD NIGHT FOLKS

Perhaps its time to shut the ride down for a rehab for 6 months and bring out the ol' test dummys, and truly measure the effects of the ride on a simulated body. What exactly are these stresses doing to the physiology of the human body?

If the ride is exhasberating and affecting people with previously undiagnosed preexisting conditions (IE they didnt know they had it), perhaps its time to reprogram the ride, or at the very least get some substantive and hard data as to exactly what this ride is doing to the human body.

Yes, there are signs saying not to ride if you have a certain condition but what if you don't know you don't have that condition? Too many people are suffering Ill effects for the company to do nothing.

IMO, the best thing they can do is gather more data and research to figure out what the problem is so they can fix the ride.

I know I'm only 26 years old, and in good health, but I don't really find Mission: Space to be all that intense. There was a ride at our county fair when I was younger called "The Gravitron." It was basically a spinning ride that used G-Forces to make people stick to the out walls. There were carpeted panels in the walls that slid up and down depending on the force at the moment. That ride was WAY more intense than Mission: Space. I know it was just a carnival ride, but still...

For anyone who has gotten sick or dizzy on Mission: Space, do other similar rides make you sick? Do roller coasters make you sick? My wife absolutely hates ALL roller coasters, but she loves Mission: Space. Go figure.

I rode the Gravitron at my local fair and it is because of that ride that I chose not to go on M:S. I also have a terrible fear of vomit (mine or someone else's). I voted that I wouldn't care if M:S closed because I would never go near it but that doesn't mean I think they should close it. Lots of people seem to enjoy the attraction - all the power to them. I wish I was brave enough to go on. I definately don't get all the negative hype surrounding the ride. Stats this small -2 deaths out of 8.5 million- do not mean anything no matter how people try to slant them their way by stating them as percentages or comparisons to other rides. Both incidents were very unfortunate accidents - no one is to blame. Death can happen at any time, it is the sad fact of life.
That said if Disney were to replace M:S with a really great dark ride you wouldn't hear any complaints from me.

This argument makes me laugh everytime someone says it. Would you really prefer more rides like Dumbo?

Ahhhh! Dumbo! That ride is TOO EXTREME! Not only do you go INTO THE AIR. You're also spun around in circles while in the air! That ride is too much! People will die! Disney needs to build rides like "Park Bench" Or "Couch". Ofcourse, some may fall off the Park Bench, so maybe we should just close WDW down for good, incase another sick person ignores all the 6 million warning signs, and videos and voice overs and cast members..And croaks.

It's just 2 sustained Gs. Any relatively healthy human should be able to surivive this. Disney will not close the ride because of the current set of circumstances.

I say yes its my favourite ride in Epcot, Disney have to cater for all intrests, and not just familys. Belive it or not some people actually like to be spun, where as others dont like to see bizzare looking dolls sing about how small the world really is.....!

Its a fact YOU WILL NOT LIKE EVERYTHING IN WDW, the park is not designed to have everything liked by everyone, so please dont claim that just because you dont like it it should be removed. Figures and stats show that people like the ride, there are plenty of rides in the resort that draw much smaller crowds which would cost less to remove, but they say because the fill the needs of a certain market Disney wants to attract.

Be realistic WDW is not built just for you, its built for everyone else who is in the park aswell. It has be proven by people will qualifications that M:S did not cause the deaths so please give that argument a rest. So clearly there is no grounds for Disney to close this ride, this thread and all threads like it are pointless. But if you wanna keep talking in circles please carry on and enjoy!

Leave it open or close it, I don't care as I will never be riding it. The advantage of leaving it open is it attracts a crowd away from attractions I do want to ride or attend. On the other hand if they close it then maybe something I'd be interested in would take its place. What Epcot needs is more attractions and if MS helps Epcot fine. If this sample is anyway representative of the guest reactions, then 40% seems like an awful high negative or neutral percentage. Whether this plays out over time or not who knows? As I said I'm neutral over the issue.

I have ridden Mission:Space in the past and enjoyed it. I thought it was more enjoyable the first time than it had been on subsequent visits, but still pretty fun. I haven't ridden it for awhile, though, because I began having issues with my blood pressure being a bit high so I wasn't going to take the chance that something more serious could happen. If someone else decides to ignore the signs when they know they have a serious medical condition, then anything that may happen to them is not the fault of Disney or Mission:Space. I've heard people saying that if they showed a video of what the ride does, it might make people more aware of what they would be experiencing. It's been awhile, like I said, but I seem to remember seeing monitors facing the queue from the "control room" setup that cycles through images of people riding, "current health status" and exterior shots of the simulators. I know they showed the simulators at rest, but I thought I saw one or two shots of them spinning as well, which would mean the videos are there. Like I said, it's been awhile, so maybe I'm just thinking they had those running. Anyway, I would be kind of annoyed if it had to be closed down because of something that was not really the fault of the ride, especially since it really is like nothing at any of the other Theme Parks.

I know it won't ever happen, but I want Horizons back. I am ed that it was destroyed and replaced by a ride that people do once and never again.

Horizons was pretty much a ghost-town (Ghost-ride) years before they closed it. It happens. Some rides are classics that will never close or lose their popularity, but most have a good run and are replaced with another. I betcha in ten years, they'll probably be replacing MS with something else.

Ok, my husband & my brother took 3 of the kids on Mission without any problems. I get sick on the teacups (but can handle all other rides at WDW: TT, ToT, RNR etc) so I knew this would not be my kind of ride. I couldn't handle the Tom's Twister at 6 Flags as a kid.

Now my question for those with more "in the know" than me is this: my absolute favorite ride was skyway in MK. I was under the "impression" that they ultimately closed this ride because of the death of a worker. Am I correct? I know the 6 Flags in St.Louis has closed 3 rides due to the death of one or more riders...a ride similar to skyway, the parachute ride and a standup rollercoaster (where it was ultimately proven that a man deliberately unfastened his wifes safety strap so she would be run over and killed). SO if wdw did close skyway because of a death then why is everyone so adamant that they would never close Mission? I know no one can prove what caused the deaths of these 2 people and no one can assume that everyone knows absolutely everything about their own health, but I'd think if more people continue to die immediately after riding Mission it would hurt their image. Just my opinion and I don't pretend to be an expert on anything!

You are remembering correctly. What you are describing is computer generated and not actual footage of the spinning which I think is what the problem is. People (my dad included) don't realise that it really is spinning when you ride.

To get the point across, they could show footage from "Moonraker" of James Bond (Roger Moore) in a centrifuge with an evil henchman at the controls. That scene is painful to watch. People think M:S is bad...nothing like what James Bond endured...
