While I appreciated the dioramas on DL's railroad, I like WDW's railroad better because it is wider. And if I remember correctly, you face sideways on the DL railroad. I prefer forward-facing seats.
We always want the side facing seats here at DL, mainly for the Diorama but honestly it just provides a better view as everything you really want to see at DL faces inward.

The forward-facing excursion cars on the DLRR actually provide the best view of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World, provided you are seated to the right. The seats on the inward-facing trains are higher up and I find that details at the top of the scenes and even the T-Rex's head get cut off from that perspective.

Interestingly I prefer Disneyland in this regard. The fake Endor film set facade at WDW is out of place with the Star Tours 2.0 version of the ride. At Disneyland the facade fits the overall theme better. WDWs is more interesting to look at though so I can see where you are coming from.

You know, that is an interesting thought, about the fake film set idea. Although there is more to see, which is what I meant in my earlier post, the idea that it is a movie set is actually somewhat out of synch with the setup of the ride -- which is more like pretending Star Wars is real. Perhaps a better twist might have been to have it somehow be a "fake" vehicle that turns out to be real and takes us on a grand adventure inside the Star Wars universe, itself also turning out to be "real."

This, of course, means that the ride content for Star Tours at Disneyland, as it stands today, more approriately fits its setting there (Tomorrowland).

I chose POTC, IASW, Buzz, Jungle Cruise, Space Mountain, and Autopia.

POTC chews up WDW's version and spits it back out. The only thing WDW has over DL's is the queue.

IASW purely because of the exterior.

Buzz: The moving guns are sooo much better and the sfx and ride quality are better even though both could be more improved.

Jungle Cruise: The new sfx in DL's version like the piranas make it better for me.

Space Mountain: Yes, WDW has a better layout and queue but DL's is just so smooth which is what space should feel like. Plus the onboard music adds so much as well as the better special effects. That puts it on top for me.

Autopia: Much better landscaping and fits the theme of tomorrowland better than the Indy theme in WDW.

Sitting 'sideways' at Disneyland...depends on which train you ride on.
There is one where the seats are 'facing forward'.
I am sure one of the experts here can tell you which one is it ( is it the Ward Kimball..? ).

If you prefer sitting forward, next time you visit just wait for the next train.
Chances are, it will be coming along the route and you can then ride with the 'forward facing' seats.

I actually prefer the 'sideways' view, as you can better take everything in...including a great view of the dioramas.

I think both queues are great in their own way. Also, WDW originally had some awesome unique aspects, but many of them have been removed:

- barker bird (RIP)
- pirate ship in the distance at the start of the ride
- slightly larger layout of the town with scenes spread out more
- original ending with the pirates and prisoners in the treasure room, sadly all murdered by Jack Sparrow in the movie refurb
- I even kinda like the moving walkway out of the ride as opposed to going up the waterfall, stupid as it is, it's like a weird parallel to the DL HM exit
