Pokemon Go at the Disney Parks

Nintendo and Niantic launched their new "Pokemon Go" mobile phone game today with massive success of the "So many people getting the app that the servers keep crashing" degree. Geocaching type stuff is a big part of the game with Landmarks, interesting points, or just arbitrary things being marked as PokeStops where you can stock up on free items or as Pokemon Gyms.

With Disney being such a high-traffic zone, thought a thread for compiling a list of PokeStops/Gyms on property would be a good idea. Feel free to chime in and I'll keep updating the list, I'm mostly basing this on what I can find on social media (Epcot being the most well documented park for this so far)

Magic Kingdom
Gyms: Cinderella Castle, Pirates of the Caribbean, Main Street Train Station, Haunted Mansion
PokeStops: Partners Statue

Epcot
Gyms: Entry gates, Spaceship Earth, Japan Pavilion, Germany Pavilion, Mexico Pavilion
PokeStops: Spaceship Earth (Gogo Boots Lady!), Fountain of Nations, MouseGear, Universe of Energy, Club Cool, Innoventions East, at least four Millennium Torches, Odyssey, Test Track, The Land (entry sign, Soarin' entrance, the balloons), Wonders of Life (Base of the removed DNA Tower), Germany Pavilion (St. George slaying Dragon), Morocco Pavilion (Towers, the Camel, one of the mosaics), Japan Pavilion (Bonsai, Samurai statue, Tsunami painting), Canada Pavilion (Mill Stage, Victoria Gardens), China Pavilion (Gates, Terracotta soldier minatures, bamboo signage), Norway Pavilion (Stave Church, the waterfall)

Animal Kingdom
Gyms: Expedition Everest
PokeStops: Tree of Life
Oddities: For some reason, Little Red and Camp Minnie Mickey's old fishing hole vignette are still on the maps as Pokestops despite them having been long gone/rendered inaccessible

Hollywood Studios
Gyms: The Great Movie Ride, Tower of Terror

Disney Springs

Oddities: Pleasure Island sign that's been long gone listed as a Pokestop

They pulled the locations for PokeStops and Gyms from Ingress the 1st incarnation of this game, I've played it for years, so if you want to see whats out there just goto http://www.Ingress.com and it will show a wrld map with everything, you may have to create an account/log in, it is free just like Pokemon Go.

Unfortunately from what I've read online, it appears that this is a severe overreaction (stock-wise). I may be wrong, but apparently Nintendo won't be getting even 50% of the profits from this game. I'd expect the stock to tank tomorrow after people settle down. You know how the stock market goes.

What a different world we live in today. People literally glued to their smartphones. Please be careful out there folks. Have fun playing, but be aware of your surroundings.
On a radio morning show this morning in Orlando it's being reported that people are being mugged easier now because they are staring at their phones out in the middle of nowhere. A caller said there were over 100 people at an abandoned shopping plaza at 12:30am this morning in Clermont just staring at their phones and not noticing anything going on around them. This kind of thing is an easy target for thugs I guess.

My 22 year old son and his friends are driving around to the nearby towns looking for Pokemon!! I've sent him a story about people being
robbed by people luring others to places to be robbed.

For those interested, the company behind the pokemon GO app, Niantic makes as app called "Field Trip"

It's a location based guide, with tons of neat info on your immediate area, things like photos, fun facts articles, historical information. I haven't tried it around disney, but it's got hundreds of points of interests in new orleans and other major cities... would be pretty neat to try on disney next visit.

if we're all going to be glued to our phones we can at least use them to enhance our trip, instead of detract!
You are assuming everyone using their phones in the park is detracting from their trip. Like many have said, those of us who are locals and visit the parks often come to the parks to waste time not for vacation.

It's not just kids that are playing the game. I loaded it a few days ago, but I soon realized it wasn't something that I was interested in playing. Besides, I have played traditional Pokemon games, and enjoyed those immensely. Catching, training, and battling, and beating the elite 4 at the end was always very challenging. However, I don't have my phone in my face all the time when I am out and about. It might be on my person on vacation, but it's only for meeting up with friends, or of I am separated from my party.

I havent reached the proper level yet but I know you can battle, trade, and go to poke gyms starting at level 5. I believe they added som new options and who knows what else they have in store with upgrades down the line.

As far as experiencing in the park last night. I personally would turn it on at certain spots like the pokestops and if there was a pokemon close id try to catch it. Another time would be waiting in a queue. Also I noticed a family playing together and they were all super excited and I even walked up to talk to them and asked what they found, and they were really nice and we talked for a bit. I didn't find anything negative about it at all. I think if people (hopefully) can jus be mindful of others then it shouldnt be a big deal, and like someone else said, a lot of us are locals and have found two things we love that we can enjoy at the same time.

While Pokemon is jointly owned between Nintendo, Game Freak, and Creatures, Nintendo's still the one calling the shots for the IP. Even if their cut from the game's profits isn't as big, this is still really good for them. An app that has "More daily users then Twitter" is very good news for them considering how much of a struggle the Wii U has been and it bodes well for their further mobile plans down the line, which supposedly includes something based on Animal Crossing.
