I skipped a few pages here, but think I got the gist of the discussion. I do carry a swiss army knife type thing at times. I have found it useful for all kinds of things that can happen on vacation (cutting up an apple for the kids, clipping a loose thread, getting gum out of hair, opening a condo door when I forgot the key, tightening a screw on luggage or a stroller, etc.). It's only dangerous if somebody who actually wants to use it as a weapon gets their hands on it.

That said, Disney has no idea whether I'm somebody who might use it as a weapon, so I wouldn't complain if they told me to leave it in the car/room/wherever. Sounds like the OP's security guard quickly sized him up and decided that the OP wasn't a risk to use the thing as a weapon and just asked that he carry it in a way that somebody else who might want to use the knife as a weapon wouldn't be able to tell easily that OP had it and wouldn't be able to easily get it. Seems OK to me.

According to my VERY scientific statistical gathering of profile locations. If you are from the UK or Jersey you are against knives because you fear them an equate them to a weapon. If you are from Oklahoma, Texas, or Florida then you consider a 3" knife a tool and would never consider using it as a weapon (even in self-defense) and feel it (potentially) does not fall under the "No Weapons" policy.

Like we said...very telling.

There you go again changing the words to make your point. I never said 'kids didn't die' - so please stop it with the strawmen.
YOU brought it up, don't get all Crankypants.

So being in WDW... somehow redefines knives to be made for stabbing (your statement). Here you go making overbearing generalizations and then try to cover your tail with a scope change.. nope sorry.
Wow for someone who doesn't want this silly statements misinterpreted despite being quoted directly you certainly all Greg Grady "Exact words mom and dad!" with others. Charming. My opinions of what is or isn't a "weapon" worthy to bring to WDW don't matter, it's WDW's call what they allow or not on their property. But I guess it's nice to know you're cool with people bringing air pistols to WDW. Oh wait, even though you brought up you giving your daughter an air pistol, It's probably not relevant to the discussion because...just because.

And that same person somehow becomes violent because they had a pocket knife at their disposal... and in the parks went after who? Let's go back through the dependencies for your situation and recap which are required for it to happen. Unless we are talking about the cursed blade from some D&D book... I don't see the pocket knife in the guy's pocket being the reason they 'crossed over' nor was it the gating thing that without it they could not have.
Nope, what I'm worried about are people who consider themselves to be very responsible becoming irresponsible after an exhaustive day in the parks. Wasn't there a situation not too long ago where someone who had a license to carry accidentally dropped their gun in a boat in It's a Small World? And it was found a while later by an older woman who went on the boat with kids? I'm sure THAT guy thought he was responsible right up to the moment he wasn't.

Alas it does seem crazy to the rest of the world who could read the posts instead of putting their own filters on them.
Or maybe you just don't make your points as succinctly as you like to think you do. Stranger things have happened. Like children dying from gunshots before the 21st century, despite your omitting that bit of info when implying that kids used to live with guns in the past and didn't die.

Your addition of the word plus, with what follows indicates your intent. A rock is more effective because....It doesn't misfire, or run out.

Putting that aside though, it's just as insane to say a rock is AS effective as it is to say it's more effective. We are talking about fractional levels of wrongness.
Wrong....
The word "Plus" in my context means "in addition to".
It in no way implicates superiority....

On March 7, 1981, an 18-year-old man was fatally stabbed with a knife during a fight in Tomorrowland.

It doesn't state what kind of knife it was but a pocket knife can cause fatal injury if used in such situation and angry state of mind.

That was Disneyland, not World. Whole different culture and set of statistics.

And a lady was killed in her car semi-recently on World Drive. So are vehicles now weapons or are they still considered transportation?

/edit. Dude was stabbed with an 8 inch knife. Simply Google "1981 stabbing at Disneyland" for the details.

Going murder crazy in the FastPass line. You know...vacation stuff! :p

My dad carries one with him and it's useful at times. I don't because I traveled for years and fell out of the habit due to airport security. Useful...sure, useful enough that I have to exercise my "rights" on private property? Heck no.

If I wanted to publicly say which one I would of but I'm not going to. People in this thread may be making me out to be a nut job criminal for carrying a pocket knife but I'm really not that type of guy to publicly out someone.
Considering there's only three moderators, the comment wasn't exactly narrow in scope....

I'm from New Jersey. I carry a knife most of the time. In fact, I have one in my pocket right now. Wouldn't bring it to WDW though.

Oh, no. I thought this thread had steered clear of "rights" (as I said, I skipped a few pages).

And you don't need to get all stabby in the FP line, cuz it's short. Now, if I was in the 4+ hour line to meet Anna and Elsa...:devilish::depressed:

10 pages just to state anyone who takes a knife to WDW is an idiot?

If I'd have seen security turn a blind eye I'd have reported them. Moronic.
Agreed, though I would ask which state he was from first, then report him ;) . There was someone earlier said they didn't take "to high school obviously". Why? Because it's the effin rules!!! WDW has rules, if I see one broken I'll report it. Maybe that police officer that just got fired for strangling that student til he passed out could now do security at WDW, he did things his way until he got caught?

If you don't mind my asking; do you carry it for defense or utilitarian?

Utility, of course. But, as I have been saying all day, that doesn't matter. It's usefulness at WDW is far exceeded by it's perceived danger. That's all that matters here.

"Out" someone?

Do some people choose to carry a knife and others are born with it?
Considering there's only three moderators, the comment wasn't exactly narrow in scope....
Also considering it's illegal for 2/3s to even own guns...

I assumed it was in defense against Utilitarians. They're everywhere in NJ, always breaking down your door to balance out your hastily assembled Ikea bookcases.
