Is there a new forum called “Dis”??

…because if you’re talking about the old one…you need to immediately get that head wound treated to stop the bleeding.

They ban their own moderators there…

KNEEL BEFORE ZOD!!!
I don’t get any of these references.

Magic used to be a much better forum then Dis. MUCH better. Once the politics board hit, then follow that up with the past two years whatever it is that went on here. Why would anyone bother?

I came back for info on Genie+ and I’ve found This place to be a little less distasteful then I left it, but far less active.

So I’m mostly on the Dis now.

YMMV

You sound like a noobie all the way around. The politics board was bad…it was rightfully eliminated.

Dis was in someways a free for all and in others ruled with a an iron fist featuring Sicilian vendettas…the worst of both worlds.

These are strange times for travel and florida. Everything has been hyper politically charged.

And the other thing to consider is when has the parks - specifically wdw - ever been run more poorly as they are now?

Rhetorical question.

Lemme put it this way. I don't post any differently here than I used to on the Dis.

And I got banned there for having an agenda. My agenda was "I can see where this FP+/MB/MDE thing is going and I don't like what I see."

Like I said…they ban their own moderators.

I tore through like billy the kid for 8 years…one step ahead of the law…

But it ain’t about me…it’s toxic for those less opinionated.

This site is NOTHING like it used to be. It’s dying a slow death. Its not down to WDW either. The Dis is still chugging along just fine, maybe even getting better. There’s only 2 moderators here, and they have made their personal views very clear, and if you disagree, you’re toast. There’s almost no old time regulars here anymore, it’s just not a fun place to hang out anymore.
I’m quite conservative and I feel like they let the more liberal folks speak freely too as long as it’s not derailing the particular thread.

I joined in 2010 when I was 20 and now I'm 32. I don't post toooo much but I pop in once in a while. I am from the forum generation and have always loved the forum format. Reading a forum takes patience and I feel that's something people aren't interested in anymore. However, I love coming here and find it a place of comfort. Not to get into it too much, but reading this forum has always made me more excited for trips and its my favorite way to keep up with Disney news. Even if I see Disney news on other outlets or socials, I still like to come here and read what you guys are saying about it

Side note: I LOVE Twitter, its like a giant chat room with all my internet friends. Hate Instagram. I like the word format more than the photo format.

Some of us are still around. Personally for me the way WDW is being managed is not as good as it used to be. Not nearly as good. And my posts may reflect that more often since that’s how I see it (If anyone is interested). Yes, Im the old fart who’s been here longer than most (and longer than this version of the site has existed) and yes things have ‘changed‘. They always have and always will. They’ve changed everywhere. Some don’t post anymore. Some have simply moved on. Others have lost their love for WDW. I have to a certain extent. For me personally that is a direct result of how the parks are being managed, not how this site is managed.

One thing that seems to be as rife here as it is in the real world is politics. There is no doubt the real world has become a more toxic and polarised place in the last 2 or so years, which is bound to rub off elsewhere. As the rules here state that’s a subject that will be closely monitored (again, a lot of stuff sticks here that you’d think would be erased) but the problems politics brings should be taken to a political forum - not a fan theme park forum. It’s not like the word DeSantis is banned here, but conversely it’s not a forum to discuss the deeper areas of the subject. You can of course talk about how it affects the parks - more so currently - but due to its potentially volatile nature, moderation is expected and of course enforced.

This site is fair - within its own set rules (themselves being quite generous). There’s plenty of discussion here that would be erased on other sites. But since there are other sites (many of which aren’t as welcoming for less than stellar comments towards the company) there’s somewhere for everyone. I think the fact this site is primarily about a Floridian destination and is U.K. based speaks volumes for its popularity and longevity. At the end of the day every respectable site needs moderation, and like so many other sites this is a privately run site by enthusiasts for enthusiasts. It’s not a public, open to anything, anything goes forum.

And that was a hard post to write with covid brain fog. But it needed saying.

I'm conflicted. Magic is much better than Dis, still, but I do find myself spending a lot more time over there just because there's such a higher volume of content. The quality of the general boards is terrible, but they have a lot of extremely knowledgeable Cruise Line and DVC posters in particular. In general I'd say I come here for News and WDW, and I go there for DCL, DVC, and Aulani.

Almost no-one from 5 years ago posts here anymore. It's not like "some" have moved on. Most have gone.

As far as politics, of course it shouldn't be here. Which is why I prefer an all or nothing approach. That is not what we have here. We have a, say whatever you like as long as it aligns with a certain point of view. Desantis isn't a banned word, but I got banned from posting in the Reedy Creek thread because I said he doesn't strike me as a man who doesn't follow through.

Besides that, there is just a baseline level of rudeness and bullying here. I won't name names, as it would just end with me being banned, but anyone can see it.

I’ve been on the board for almost exactly that long, and aside from the posters who only frequented the political threads for heated debates every day (not sure how their blood pressure even handled that, but whatevs), most of the people from when I joined are still here.

Maybe I’m misunderstanding the point, though.

But none the less well written in spite of the brain fog. You beat me to the forum by about six months in 2003. A lot has changed over those years. We've all aged, the parks and management has changed, the world has become increasingly hostile and overwhelmed with corruption, dishonesty and greed.

l do not envy those that are monitoring the forum because so much that happens and so much that is said in the threads is like pouring salt into a gigantic open wound and the natural reaction for people like me is to react to counter many of the things that I find appalling but unable to do anything about. It has to be a careful balance and awareness of where to draw the line. A very impressive balancing act. For example, any of the threads that are dealing with the actions of the current King of Florida must be a nightmare if the objective is to not be political when the entire problem is 100% political. It is just ridiculous on way to many levels. When people that know how things should work are constantly bombarded with situations that defy logic it is hard to not sometimes lose it and go a little overboard in our reaction. The problem is that what is happening is real and it is infecting everything we once thought was the way things should be.

You, Martin, have dedicated a huge chunk of your life documenting, in detail, all the aspects of Disney parks and attractions beautifully and loyally. The two of us haven't always agreed on every point or thought, but it pains me to see someone with your dedication to Disney fade to any degree. It kind of makes hope for improvement go out the window. The historical documentation that you have published about all things Disney is mind boggling and in my opinion Disney owes you an awful lot for the recorded history that Disney themselves seems to be unable to care about and hasn't for years. You have saved them a lot of money in production cost to do something that they should have been doing themselves and sharing with their fans.

I hope that you get to feeling back to normal soon and can feel more like contributing to the boards again. Your knowledge is very interesting, informative and missed.

You can say the same thing about the Dis too. A lot of posters have left there too. I think the biggest difference is that over there many are still planning trips and the focus is on trip planning. They have boards over there that are dead too. Like the rumours board isn't busy at all. Not like it was a few years ago.

The other board has weird tendencies even beyond politics, which it is very clear how the moderators lean.

I got slapped in a thread about finding rooms for families of 5 (which we are). I mentioned that many of the 1 bedroom DVC villas that state the capacity is 4 also have a byline that lets you know you can have 5, but you'll need to bring your own bedding. I listed those resorts. We use them all the time. I know the rules. Whoever the moderator was slapped me, and that was the final straw for me, as minor as it may have been.

Follow me for more tips on how to get slapped around on forums.
