Geez. What's wrong with people.Just a troll posting carp way too many times
I don’t get any of these references.
Magic used to be a much better forum then Dis. MUCH better. Once the politics board hit, then follow that up with the past two years whatever it is that went on here. Why would anyone bother?
I came back for info on Genie+ and I’ve found This place to be a little less distasteful then I left it, but far less active.
So I’m mostly on the Dis now.
YMMV
Agreed! It takes a lot to run this. I don't know how long it's been around, I just know I've been here since 2012. I love the way it's organized and laid out, very well done. And probably a lot of headache to put up with all of us! A great outlet for all of us Disney nerds. So thanks, @wdwmagic!I happen to think the mods here are some of the best. I enjoy the site and will continue to try and be positive. I think its just a little harder considering how far Disney has fallen in the eyes of long time fans.
These boards are invincible!!Only 8 people joined these forums in the past 24 hours. At that rate there will only be a little less than three thousand people joining here every year.
These boards are doomed!!
This site is NOTHING like it used to be. It’s dying a slow death. Its not down to WDW either. The Dis is still chugging along just fine, maybe even getting better. There’s only 2 moderators here, and they have made their personal views very clear, and if you disagree, you’re toast. There’s almost no old time regulars here anymore, it’s just not a fun place to hang out anymore.
I post. Therefore, I am.I've stopped posting completely.
That's Katiebug101 to you.We just need Katiebug to return and everything will return to normal!
Unless I missed something, I've picked up on three completely different reasons people think the posting on this forum has slowed. It's like three different conversations happening at the same time. I feel that all of these are tied together stemming from #1 below.
1. Disney has crossed a line for many mega-fans and made the parks less or completely unenjoyable in a plethora of different ways including price increases, nickle and diming, Genie+, LL, overdependency on phones, disrepair, eliminating formerly popular attractions, etc. Therefore, folks have decided not to hang out on these boards as much or anymore due to their lost interest, or even protest.
2. There's too much hate, disrespect, and bullying on the Magic boards. "If you don't think they way I think, you're thinking wrong" kind of attitude. I feel debate is good, but folks' opinions have become so sacred across the board in life. "I don't like people who don't think like me." I'm not sure where this attitude originated, but it's definitely not something that was rampant 35 years ago. Disagreements? Absolutely. People would disagree, things might even get a bit heated, but almost always you'd see cooler heads prevail, stop talking about politics at Thanksgiving dinner, and talk about the Cowboys or Lions, etc. We didn't hate each other because we didn't agree on every subject. I hate to sound like an old generation while in my 40s, but life was much more civil years ago. It might not have felt like it back then, but is apparent now. When did people become so severely intolerant of other opinions?
3. This doesn't seem to be a popular position, but something about how these boards are biased and mods are unfair and heavy-handed. I'm not kissing up (no reason to honestly), but I've seen mods on other boards that showed a tremendous and obvious amount of favoritism towards certain individuals, or general opinions. On this board, it's anything but. Removing political rants is entirely appropriate on these boards to avoid as much of #2 above as possible. Politics has poisoned life so dramatically, not just the last 7 years, but really going back 25-30 years. Keeping that away from these boards is the healthiest way to keep things friendly. I appreciate the mods on these boards, even after having a post or two of mine removed. I reached out to the mod. They told me their reasoning, and I completely understood despite the interpretation not being my intent. I feel they've been very fair.
All that said, any reduction in traffic on these boards really stems from Disney management decisions, whether it's to not expand on the parks despite that they're busting at the seams, or Disney deciding to jack prices up really high, which based on supply/demand seems somewhat appropriate, but they could also increase supply a bit, like people-eating attractions rather than just people-eating prices. Most of the issues that arise on these boards stem from general discontent, although not for everyone. Not everyone is unhappy with the parks or recent changes and that's perfectly acceptable because everyone experiences the parks differently. I personally think that some of the magic truly has worn off a bit for many people. Doesn't mean that people won't go to the parks, but when people are struggling to discuss any new wonderful decisions/changes, all that's left is to criticize the bad ones. Just my opinion anyway.
"Reduction in traffic on these boards" has not been established by any actual data.
Orange and Osceola counties welcome traffic. The #1 industry in FL is tourism. Budget several dollars one way when on Osceola Parkway toll road .Nor has there been a reduction in traffic on World Drive, I-Drive, Buena Vista Drive, or Osceola Pwky. Chelonia Pwky is busy too.
Native Floridian here. I’m well aware. I spend many hours of sleepless nights planning and scheming on how to avoidOrange and Osceola counties welcome traffic. The #1 industry in FL is tourism.
So you probably avoid the expensive toll road 417, Sanford to WDW one way almost $8-9 dollars for a 40 min ride about 3-4 tollsNative Floridian here. I’m well aware. I spend many hours of sleepless nights planning and scheming on how to avoidthemthe crowds the best I can.
Not sure I have ever said this, but I have always appreciated your positivity, tone, and enlightened view.Same. I used to post here because I almost always had an upcoming Disney vacation to plan, and was excited to stay up-to-date on all the latest stuff. Now, for me, it's more like visiting a museum dedicated to historical Disney -- I come to read about and celebrate the greatness of what was, and learn how to make the best of what's still there when we eventually return.
Also, as a somewhat-oldster in my mid-40s, I tend to eschew forms of social media where anonymity attracts morons and bullies like moths to a flame. We tend to get to know the regulars on this forum, developing reputations that follow us, in a way that makes everybody feel less anonymous and which, in turn, leads to more grown-up and respectful discussions than I'd ever see on Reddit or Twitter or in a Facebook comment section. I appreciate that, and even if I never went to WDW again, I'd still want to come back here to see how some of the members here are doing, and to enjoy, vicariously, their fun WDW memories and trip reports...

Aw, that is so lovely of you! (...and also shows your own positivity and kindness. See why I keep coming back here?)Not sure I have ever said this, but I have always appreciated your positivity, tone, and enlightened view.
