I've posted much less recently, and that's largely because with the huge price increases, reports of crushing crowd levels, poor maintenance, the loss of Disney's industry-leading customer service tradition, the hassle of getting to Florida from norther New England with two young children, and most importantly, Genie killing all the spontaneity of trips and gluing you to your smart phone, I just don't have much of interest in visiting Disney World in the near future.

There's just too many other vacation options that are easier and cheaper. Sorry, Disney, I was a lifetime fan, but you've lost me for the time being. You used to be an experience, now you feel like an exercise in forced branding and marketing.

Problem with Reddit and Twitter is if you agree with the community on 99% of things, and disagree on 1%< you get labeled as a bot, troll, etc.

As for this forum, I'm 25 and very much prefer this format to other social media when discussing a specific topic.

As for Disney, I'm just not excited anymore, because it seems like any news will just be the company &$#!ing something up.
Well, to be fair, if you're not prone to motion sickness, the reviews on GotG:CR seem pretty good.

In the Parks
No
Other than Cosmic Rewind, there just isn't anything exciting happening at the parks right now that warrants passionate discussion. Even then, that's a project that was announced over 5 years ago. My interest has certainly waned since then. Heck the 50th, which should have been an exciting time, has been met with lackluster enthusiasm. I've been a lifelong and die hard WDW fan, but I'm just bored with the parks right now. There's nothing compelling me to visit.

I have noticed a difference but that is probably mainly due to the fact I was never really active till now. I have mainly lurked and came on to read posts as I was getting closer to an upcoming trip.
Ahhh so that's it... I peeked at your profile and saw that you are also an "old timer" on here (and that you're from Houston - so I am by the way). I think we've been in a few recent conversations together so I thought you were new around these here parts lol.

Nice to meet you fellow Houstonian. I'm a transplant from Chicago since 2011. Love it here.

I joined when I was 12 back in 2010 😂. Now I’m 24.. and I’m pretty sure I still haven’t found anyone my age. My generation is NOT a forum generation. It’s Instagram, Twitter, tiktok, and MAYbe Facebook if you’re lucky.

I think that is the key. Forums are going to end up being a dying breed against things like Reddit (and the once popular tumblr).

I think the downfall in forums definitely started with my generation. I know not a single soul my age that would know what this is unless I compared it to Reddit.

We will definitely have less comes than we will goes.

Exactly! I knew you were 'the baby' on here and probably the only one who has stuck around. I'm sure there have been others that have come to ask a question, but left shortly after. We have 4 kids your age and they all love Disney, but they're not going to come on here. My son tried to get me on Reddit, but I don't like the way it's organized and I find it to be confusing. (Maybe I'm just too old for it ha ha.) I love this forum, but I know it has to be mostly only old people, like me. I recently quit Facebook so THIS is my only social media unless you count YouTube.

Well, I was born and raised there, but moved to Austin back in the 90's. Glad you like it though! I went to Chicago once and oddly enough, it reminded me of Houston just in the way it was so spread out because Austin is not like that. (That was in the early 2000's.)

Chicago is a great city. I miss the food, but there is great food here.

It's FOMO -- no one has time to read thru a multi-page thread when they're busy keeping track of stream-of-consciousness tweets, live feeds and tik-tok postings.
That is true. Some threads are hundreds and hundreds of pages long and decades old. Nobody is going to sort through all that.

One thing I don't like that happens here is someone new might ask a question that's already been asked and instead of helping them, someone jumps on them about how there's already a thread on that topic. First of all, it's not very nice and not very Disney like. Secondly, the other thing that happens is when people do post to an older thread, then they get griped at for resurrecting an old thread! It's like they can't win no matter what they do.

I also tried Twitter briefly. I didn't last long. If a person wants to get abused that's the place to go! Talk about a rough place and rude people.

Speaking for myself and ONLY myself, I think the events of the
past few months has left a nasty taste in my mouth…I’m not trying to pick sides, both have positive and negative points, but it just doesn’t seem fun anymore. I try to post and pick my spots, but even now, I feel like I have to weigh everything I say so as not to offend anyone or the mods. It’s not the same place here as it was a year ago☹️

They should have kept the political page and kept steering all that pertinent thought there instead of deleting posts. Unfortunately, current events in the Orlando parks are 100% intertwined with politics.

I look forward to a return to the “not so old days”, but part of me says it ain’t gonna happen.
Agree. But to be fair on one point, the Mods on this particular board are VERY reasonable and likeable. I would not he here if that were not the case.

I know many boards where the mods are WAY too heavy handed.

Fascinating observation, and you very well may be correct. I find Reddit good, but hard to read and hard to follow, whereas forums are easy (usually).

Twitter and tiktok aren't really forums in that the content is very distilled and again, not easy to follow. Facebook is ok, but still not as easy as Forums.

...I really need to get into reddit more... I have lots of old (40+) friends the endorse it.

Mob rule! And isn't reddit popularity based? ...so you upvote and downvote content (into obscurity).

Actually, I haven’t noticed anything different. I’ve been here since 2012. People come and go, and many of the regular posters are still here. I really like this website and usually people are very helpful and friendly (to me anyway). But one thing could be that as far as social media goes, maybe people don’t use this type of format as much as they used to? I think it would be interesting to know all of our ages on here. I could be wrong, but I’m guessing most of us are older - 35 and up? I don’t see younger Disney fans coming on here to get into all of it like we do. But I could be way off… what do I know…
…you don’t say? 🤔

Same. I used to post here because I almost always had an upcoming Disney vacation to plan, and was excited to stay up-to-date on all the latest stuff. Now, for me, it's more like visiting a museum dedicated to historical Disney -- I come to read about and celebrate the greatness of what was, and learn how to make the best of what's still there when we eventually return.

Also, as a somewhat-oldster in my mid-40s, I tend to eschew forms of social media where anonymity attracts morons and bullies like moths to a flame. We tend to get to know the regulars on this forum, developing reputations that follow us, in a way that makes everybody feel less anonymous and which, in turn, leads to more grown-up and respectful discussions than I'd ever see on Reddit or Twitter or in a Facebook comment section. I appreciate that, and even if I never went to WDW again, I'd still want to come back here to see how some of the members here are doing, and to enjoy, vicariously, their fun WDW memories and trip reports...

Exactly, this isn't exactly an anonymous forum in that many of us hang out here long term and "know" many of the regulars. ...and therefore tend to not make a huge mess of the place by going full troll.

Also, like you said, we can enjoy the vicarious stories of other we are familiar with. I know I do.
