None of these examples show round tube supporting an exterior shell. What they show is fiberglass or metal panels secured together via a raised rib on the edge of the panels. Basically they are just a complicated raised seam steel roof over a steel frame, a geodesic dome or made of prefabricated Fiberglas panels over a steel frame.

Sure....some of the pics are identical...but give it a few weeks and we can't debate it then...

When should we expect to see it start going up?
Already answered in the photos. :)
Dude you have to give us a little more than that. What are we seeing here? Why round painted pipe instead of i beam or even square stock?
The existing building is already watertight. The facade floats over the building. The sheathing ties to the pipe frame. Pipe is easier, cheaper and lighter than curving i beam or square steel and it works with the aesthetic.

Photo update as of Sunday, August 7. Another look at the new exterior pipe structure. It is only seen on the Coca Cola side of the dome. The Morimoto Asia side of the dome doesn't have the pipe structure yet.

I don't think it has been mentioned yet, and not really apparent in some of the earlier photos, but the existing steel structure on the dome is being repainted a gray color. The original color was brown. They have started at the top, and worked their way down on all sides. In the close up below, you can see the new gray color above, with the old brown color below. Part of the tower has also been painted gray. You can also see how the exterior pipe structure is attached to the new lower wall.

Sometimes it seems Disney Springs was always the original plan. And PI was just a lapse of creative judgement.

That's a great way to put it.

I think they still might be finding its true purpose with Town Center however.

PI was fantastic until people became what you Americans call "douchebags". Parents with self eletitlement issues about bringing their kids and local scumbags who can't handle a few bud lights without turning into a wannabe thug. Before all that happened it was a good fun place to go with Disney touches and safety then some fool removed the barriers to the island.

i think I was one of the few that likes the original PH design, but this renovation makes total sense with all of the other changes being made. I'm still shocked that the restaurant will remain a PH, but I guess this renovation would also make for an easier transition to another chain/restaurant.

Love seeing the progress!

Part of me wants to know what "douchebags" are called where you are from ("In my country, we would call a jerk like you a saline wash."). But seriously, I thought Pleasure Island was pretty cool in and of itself, but once West Side opened, Pleasure Island became the odd man out that made "Downtown Disney" disjointed and awkward.

Speaking of ...bags...

Guy Fieri. I hope the food is better at Disney than in NYC.

You know I always heard that it stunk but my coworker just told me it was really good the other day. He had gone for lunch a few times. Maybe it's just taste or perhaps he's just an outlier.

Edit: I'm talking about the NYC location (which until my coworker mentioned it I thought was closed)

Hopefully they cleaned up their act after the terrible reviews. That's a good way to make sure your restaurant is great from then on. :)
