Plan C for Pleasure Island

yes I would definately stay there

Ditto. I would like it that they could add these types of lodging and also keep the nature and feel of discovery island.

I was also thinking of the dvc resort looking kind of like this:

And be setup like this:

So the dvc resort would be right on the lake, about 4 or 5 stories tall, and all units would face the lake.

River country would be revamped to be more modern and also serve as the pool area for this dvc and also the dvc resort.

If they were smart, they'd fill Discovery Island with princesses and foamheads, and charge a premium price for parents to take their little girls on a romp through the enchanted forest to meet rare characters. Add stale cookies and watered-down hot cocoa, and it would be similar to a hard-ticket event like MVMCP. :D

(Yet the fanboy in me would love to see an Adventurer's Island for teens through adults!)

I can guarantee you TDO has already thought of this! They are doing guest surveys about it as we speak.... :ROFLOL:

I think there are way too many thousands of birds that still live on Discovery Island for Disney to ever be able to do anything with it again.

I'm not sure if it's been put up here, but I feel like putting up the link to the web page featuring a story and photos about a midnight adventure on the abandoned Discovery Island. I know this is pretty well-circulated, but just in case some of you have never seen it, here it is. It's pretty cool, I think.

It is interesting that for the most visited amusement park in the world, there are places abandoned on property like this. I hope that with AA being rebuilt, that disney can reopen RC and DI. I believe that a good amount of disney fans will want RC opened again instead of being just demoed.

so back on topic, any insiders know why they put neon lights on the MDP entrance?

Got to think it's to make the place look livelier. 99% of the people walking past it probably don't know it's a permanently closed club. So they see it all lit up and it looks festive and they think it will open later in the evening.

but isn't the whole idea to draw attention away from the buildings? thus the removal of signs, covering AC entrance, etc etc

in addition, reports from SPI Blog are that the 3rd floor lights are on.

great idea!! but why does it have to be a DVC? Whats wrong with it being just another resort area?

Well the main buildings on the shore would be but the cottages on DI would be the honeymoon / couples cabins. Those cabins could be booked by anyone. I had a similar idea for Beachcomber's Island.

I see a dedicated DVC resort more likely than disney building another wilderness style hotel down the road from WL.

Seeing your mockup made me think that Disney should've built a new wedding pavilion on Beachcomber's Island before they started construction on the GF DVC. Seems like a better view of the MK, no construction freaking out the bridezillas (although I think they have a right to be mad here), keep that seclusion that they're giving up for the DVC. Maybe have a receiving area on shore still and the actual pavilion (or two?) on the island.

The other thing about having a 24/7 facility on an island versus something like a wedding pavilion is simply access. I just think about what would happen if someone had a heart attack at 3AM in one of the little cottages on these islands... seems like it would take forever to get EMTs out there and it would probably bite Disney in the but in either PR or lawsuit form eventually.

Well there are different projects that disney should have built before ones that interfere with the guest experience. Though I would not be surprised that someone would complain about work being done on beachcomber island while they had their wedding.

The current site can be used as a port and a staging area. With the plan I have, there would be a pavilion for those guests staying on the island. The cottages would be large enough for bridemaids and the bride to get ready. Along with that is an onsite restaurant for entertaining the wedding party and couples on the island. This would also have a reception desk which would be staffed 24/7.

As for transportation to and from the island, there are two docks with their own fleet of boats. The docks are a 1,000 feet from shore, by the time someone reaches shore there would be an ambulance waiting.
