places to buy groceries

i read a few posts but would like to ask again if there is a place like goodings on the property. and how far it might be, best way to travel there...don't want to leave the park

if we have a room, like a villa, with a full sized refrigerator it would be handy to have some basics: milk, butter, jam, PB, yogurts...so on

we'll have a dining plan but with kids i know they'll be hungry (me too) right before bed. i also will be getting up before them in the morning so i might want to have a bite before breakfast.

I have a tip that I got from someone...
Most of the resorts sell boxes of donuts at their gift shops.
I have heard that the donuts are very good!:slurp:
It only takes one of your dining plan snack credits for a box.
That would make a great snack or b'fast!
We're planning on doing this in Sept.
Hope this helps!

They're Entenmann's donuts. Don't know how pervasive they are nationwide (they're everywhere around here), but if you've had them you already know if you like them. Probably not the most nutritious breakfast, though, maybe with a piece of fruit or healthy cereal to counteract the sat. fats (mmmm...saturated fats  )

If you are staying at a villa and these items are really all you want to buy, then you will have no problem getting them at the resort gift shop. I know at the WL you can buy eggs, milk, juice, yogurt, bread, peanut butter, butter, jam, lunch meat, frozen meals, among other things. So I think a trip to a store would be a waste of time unless you are looking for something more specific, or if you are picky about the brand. We go to the grocery store because we buy TONS of bottled water, diapers, baby food, and a few other items. But for what you need I think the resort gift shop would be fine.

And about renting a car.....IF it is in your budget, I think it is a great idea. We used to not rent one, but on our last two trips we did and were so thankful. It came in handy to go to the grocery store, and one time we needed a specific medicene and were able to drive to Walgreens. We also drive to all of the parks excpet MK (we take the boat because we stay at WL) and have found travel time to be soooo much faster that way, at least from the WL. And we have 2 small children, so a crowded bus with 2 cranky kids and 2 folded up strollers can be a nightmare. Plus I just like the peace of mind of knowing I have a car...I do not like depending on other people for transportation.
But if you are on a tight budge, your money can be better spent elsewhere.

We don't have those here...the best we have is Krispy Kreme.

just a reminder that you can bring food into the parks ... you just can't bring in coolers ... we usually freeze 6 or 7 bottles of water and they last most of the day ... going to Publix, Goodings,WalMart, or Target is a good idea to get bottled water or gatorade ( bottle of Coke or water is $2 in the parks ) is a good idea ... there is a HUGE difference in the taste of water from the fountains around the parks and bottled water ... good luck and have a great trip!!!!!!!!!

For the sake of comparison, imagine Krispy Kreme was like a fresh-baked hand-tossed pizza with all your favorite toppings. Entenmann's donuts would be like those frozen square Ellio's pizza sices you got in your high school cafeteria - tasty enough in a pinch, but far from great.

You will not have the luxury of walking to the parks and Downtown Disney like you do in Disneyland. That is one thing that I like about DL.

In Florida we have always felt we needed a car, even if we used the bus system. Now if we were only staying for a few days then it wouldn't be a big deal, but for a week or more, having the ability to go pick something up if you need it, like band-aids, chapstick, sunburn cream, socks that you forgot to pack, etc. is important.

The town car services are nice. I am somewhat of a cheapskate, but find these are well worth the $100.

If you have a car, the SuperTarget is awesome for selection and price. They also have great Disney stuff for a fraction of the cost. We bought autograph books and POTC t-shirts there last Fall, as well as all of our groceries.

But if you're just looking for snacks, you can find that on property.

We usually drive down from Canada and have always loaded up the van before heading out with cereal and bottled water and the likes up here. This past March when we were down there for 10 days, we decided to venture off Disney property for a few hours one day and discovered the Target and Super Walmart that were mentioned in an earlier post. We were able to restock whatever we were low on (juice, bread, etc.) and to stock up for the long ride home, and at a reasonable price. There were also a ton of shops along the way that sold CHEAP WDW souvenirs, which my brother absolutely took full advantage of.

A couple of weeks after our trip, we were sitting around talking about how we should go back in 2 years (March 2009 - please hurry!:lookaroun) and it struck us that next time, instead of loading the van up to the roof with stuff we won't need until we are actually down there (food, paper plates, drinks, etc.), we should just pack a few snacks and drinks to do us until we get settled in at Pop Century, and then just drive down the street to the Walmart or Target and get the rest of the items we usually bring with us. This will work out great considering there is usually 5 or 6 of us crowded into the van for 2 days. Just think of the leg room we will all have!!!:sohappy::sohappy:

Entenmann's are far better than Ellio's pizza, not even a close comparison. I grew up on Dunkin Donuts, so for me Krispy Kreme are not very good, too dense and every one is coated with an icing, even ones that shouldn't have it. Entenmann's are better than the other brands of boxed donuts, like Hostess, etc.

It will also save on gas driving down with less of a load too.

You should also visit the character warehouse stores where they sell the disney merchandise that didn't sell, were overruns, etc. This merchandise comes from the parks/hotels and is a better quality than those stores that sell 10 shirts for $5. http://www.allearsnet.com/btp/cware.htm
