From the Parks Blog:

"More than 5,000 parking spaces will be available within the structure. We anticipate it opening no later than the end of July, and hopefully sooner. The new structure will feature a new electronic parking system to expedite guest parking."

But does this mark the end of the Eastern Gateway, since the main CM parking lot will be on top of what was to become the proposed Pumbaa structure? Or should we see this as temporary until Eastern Gateway is approved?

I think it's temporary. (We'll have to wait and see just how temporary.) It still doesn't address an influx of pedestrians crossing Harbor - just swaps tourists for cast members. I still believe the city want's to eliminate that crosswalk, so we'll see the bridge eventually.

@Darkbeer1 has said a couple times that the eastern gateway is still on the table. They are very serious about moving all security areas away from the esplanade.

@Rich T might have a problem with level 6
I...guess I'm okay as long as there's no crying Bing Bong candy vending machine in the garage...but again with the using dead heroes as if they're still alive. I'm still wondering if any of these decision makers have actually watched "Inside Out."

And as for Level 2: Perhaps Miguel and Dante might have been a more welcoming choice?
(EDIT) Oh, wait, Dante's dead...or is he? How the heck did that work? What are the rules for turning into a spirit animal? I'm so confused!!!

Agreed... on both counts.

Lol not sure on the rules but I think Dante works better on multiple levels. No pun intended.

We couldn’t just get a nod to the old Pinocchio lot huh? Looks like my dream of parking on the Stromboli level is over.

I guess it makes sense. Little kids have no idea who Cleo and Gepetto are. 🙄 Then again, I had no clue who Mr. Toad was when I was a kid.

Snotty brats.
Kids are the worst.

This is a relative rarity, but the name of a Disneyland parking structure is something I could not possibly care less about.

It’s not a big deal but it would be nice if not EVERYTHING was an exercise in corporate synergy. A little nod to the park/ parking lot history would have been nice. Just something to say “hey we re not all corporate robots in marketing with spreadsheets.”

On track for a late July opening. June is gonna be so much fun at the happiest place on earth :)

There is some good news in there...I didn't know they are also adding 2,150 spaces to the Toy Story lot and adding a security checkpoint to the TS lot. Those buses will now drop you off past the security checkpoint at the esplanade.

it will be interesting to see how they set-up barriers in the drop of areas to accomplish this. The buses drop you off right at the same pathway that is used by pedestrian traffic coming in from Harbor. This also makes me wonder why they built the new security to span the whole width of the esplanade.

so lets see

Yellow = pedestrian traffic from Harbor
Red = shuttle route and drop off from toy story lot to resort
blue = shuttle pick-up and route from resort to toy story lot
green = new security tent across the whole width of esplanade.

I wonder if we will end up seeing an unsightly barrier going across the whole pathway separating the pedestrian traffic from Harbor and the unloading traffic from shuttles.

purple = new barrier?

that would also change the use of the new security structure.

How much of it would now be within the secured zone since it would basically just be a covered entryway into the esplanade?
Would it be turned into an entrance and exit area for the shuttle service?

drew arrows as to how it might turn out. The question is how much foot traffic comes in from Harbor? will the reduced security entry point for that group of people be enough now that the majority of traffic is coming from toy story which is already pre-screened?

So it looks like I was right in the ballpark of when this thing will be completed, and with it being completed in phases.

So June/July (likely July now) for Parking Structure opening.
Aug/Sept for Pedestrian Bridge and final project completion.
