Pirates ride to stay on course
THE ORLANDO SENTINEL, JULY 14, 2003

Disney's movie opened to enthusiastic reviews, but that doesn't mean the Pirates of the Caribbean ride at the Magic Kingdom will go to Hollywood. A spokesman says there are no plans to update the thirtysomething fun house so that it's like the Jerry Bruckheimer supernatural swashbuckler. Pirates is "among the most popular attractions at Disney World," the spokesman said. "It's cherished by our guests, so there are no plans to change it."

Good chairperson! That's a good theory, your last quote, by the way... :p

...I'm surprised he called "Walt Disney World" "Disney World!"  :p

I'm not too sure...I think the "classics" (especially the ones inspired by Walt) should keep their own stories and characters...especially since the film can always! be viewed when released. Good film! But also, a good ride! :D

And also, if it wasn't for the ride, we wouldn't have the film, so...

PotC hasn't started down here yet, but I'm sure it's a great movie. Nevertheless, I really don't think I wanna see Orlando Bloom's mug every time I ride PotC at the parks!

Oh, thank goodness! That ride is Walt's creation. Why would we want to change it? We'll regret it forever. I can't imagine not letting my children and their children get a chance to view a Disney artifact like PIRATES.

I would!!!

Honestly, I am glad they're not changing the ride. I love it as is.

I'm glad they arent changing the attraction as well. I wouldn't mind them maybe updating the sound or something.or update afew effects. but nothing to take away or change the original attraction concept.

While it is a relief to hear they won't be upating the ride to look like the movie, it still would have been nice to see the ride get updated a little bit. I mean, seeing as Disney knows how popular the rides are, enough to give them (Haunted Mansion, PotC, Bears) their own movies, I would think it to be neccessary for Disney to make these rides even more prominent in the parks and the guests eyes by adding maybe some new animatronics or special effects, or sprucing up some of the old ones. I do like the ride the way it is, but honestly, I'm not the only one who can tell the thing was made in the 60's/70's. I keep hearing about the rumored "swashbuckling pirates" like they have at one of the overseas parks...I saw it on an Imagineering special and the AAs move very realistically. Even if it was an addition as small as that, it would still be cool.

And I think something should be done at MK's to help it compare better to the far superior Pirates ride at Disneyland. (Besides the queue :) )

I would say the ride is already close enough to the movie...and vice versa...

(When is the only time you see a skeleton in PotC? It's at night...)

OOPS!!! Sorry if I gave something away! :drevil:

I agree that technical spruce-ups and advanced effects-add in's would be a nice way to show respect for the classic attraction that POTC is, especially with the (so far) success of the film.. but no changes should be made that deal directly with the flim! So it's a good thing that there are no plans to change it! :sohappy:

Not Orlando.. Johnny Depp! I wouldn't want them to change the ride much, just add an Animatronic on Capt. Jack Sparrow some where in there. Maybe in a Cell next to the Pirates with the Dog.

I'm neither relieved or disappointed. PoTC is great the way it is, but I do think there are ways the ride could be enhanced without ruining it.

I also think that if WDW did decide to update the attraction, they would be stupid to do it anytime soon. If they put the ride in rehab, they would lose the publicity from the move tie-in.

Ideally, the movie will remind people how much they love PoTC and all of WDW; and they will schedule a trip to Orlando. How would that work if the ride is down for rehab?

I want that monkey added somewhere, near the treasure at the begining/end where ever it was. It would be something nice.

One thing missing from movie, the auction. Never take it from the ride. I love the line.

The differences are minimal...but the effect of that minimal difference is long lasting...you see if I remember correctly the ride is a bit longer over at Cali, and I found a lot of surprises while riding it (thinking that it would be exactly like the one at MK)...especially the plunges our "boat" took. :animwink:

In all its basically the same thing, but I have to admit that Pirates over at Cali is one of the better attractions DisneyLand has compared to MK. However as someone already mentioned the queue line is much better at MK.

About changing the ride......I think changes will happen, but not huge ones...the animatronics need to be replaced (cause they just look too old)...and probably I think they'll add some elements from the movie...I wouldn't mind a few changes but I think the ride it self should for the most part stay the same.

YES!!! same here! Will Turner's nice and all (of course he is...he's Orlando!) but Capt. Jack...omg! I've loved Johnny since Sleepy Hollow but when i first started seeing early screen shots and teasers, i wasn't sure i was going to like him as a pirate. all the make-up just seemed a little much at first. but after i saw the movie for the first time (and especially after the second time) i couldn't help but swoon! Johnny's the perfect pirate! personally, i think he deserves a place in the ride...and in a place that's rather discreet....where we know he's there, but he's not in our face (though, i wouldn't mind that at all!) and Cindy, i agree...the cell would be the perfect place for him!
but if nothing else, Disney could always update GMR and put in a PotC scene....and the car could be taken over by a pirate! now THAT would be cool! :D
