I heard that an Eddie Murphy AA is going to be put into HM to replace the Ghost Host...

There's definitely more than projecting mapping going on in that trick. I've never seen it up close, but from watching the vids I still can't quite tell how they're doing it. It must be a mix of projection and pepper's ghost or something.

The fun little lo-fi thing we just got is also used in Journey Into Imagination over at Epcot -

I believe the effect is simply the figure has two sides, on the left it’s a skeleton and the right it’s a man. A mirror placed in the middle of each side makes it look like a whole figure

How is it better to have an AA that just stands there and turns its head from side to side and has no dialogue. Am I missing something?

Honey, it's a hotness thing for the menfolk. It's not aimed at guys like us, but I'm happy that some guys in the boats in Paris will appreciate it. And of course, I value their diversity. ;)

I do have to admit the redhead in Paris looks more attractive.

Our redhead just sort of looks like a lady gym teacher dressed as a pirate for Halloween.

Why is the Tokyo version so perfect? Other than having the movie tie-ins and lack of drops, the attraction improves upon the original without losing the original artists' intent. I didn't even realize it was all in English and not Japanese so the Paul Frees auctioneer lives on.

Rewatching a ride thru it definitely could be as there's more depth to the skeleton than I realized, but if that's the case it wouldn't work at eye level. And like I said before, having a living animatronic human with movements is wildly out of place in the grotto section. Just look at Paris who had Barbossa inserted into the ending of that ride and it just does not work.[/QUOTE]

Hahah.

The Paris Red Head is way hotter.

We need to start the #notmyredhead movement.

I think you are talking about the new figure at DL, right? That one is obvious. I’m talking about the Jack Sparrow AA in Shanghai — there’s no way that’s the case there as far as I can tell.

The life sized model that was built in at the Burbank studios had a much younger looking redhead. Always found it interesting that they seemed to have aged her up when they built the ride.

Yes, in reference to "The fun little lo-fi thing we just got is also used in Journey Into Imagination over at Epcot" :)

One may prefer Tokyo’s. It’s in better shape, the arsenal room is really delightful and the queue is a bit more fleshed out. One better attribute that the original has in Disneyland however is the two drops (resulting in taller/grander caverns) and going up the waterfall at the end of the attraction.

Although my personal favorite feature in Tokyo's (what originated in Orlando) was there not being any guests in the boats as they travel to the loading dock because of there being a separate unloading station. It gives one an eerie feeling when seeing them empty.

Ah gotcha... The top part of my post was in reply to the below -- I can see how that may have been confusing!

Not only would an audio animatronic in the grottos be completely out of place, there's nothing mind bending or fun about a projection mapping effect in 2018.

Another thing that DL does much better than Tokyo that I don’t often see mentioned is the “outdoor feeling”. The ceiling is fairly easy to make out in Tokyo and as a result that famous Pirates illusion of being outside when you actually aren’t is harder to believe in.

The reddit conversation on these changes definitely has a far more positive spin on the new auction segment than we do on here. Dissenters who dislike the new one are brigaded with downvotes, while people advocating for Redd and the disgustingness of the original scene are showered with agreement.

Which means, the public loves this. It's here to stay- and though the character "Redd" will fade into obscurity and not become the female Jack Sparrow some want her to be. I just hope that I get used to the new scene after a few dozen rides, so it doesn't stick out for me like it does now.

Can't believe the AP shill circlejerk on r/Disneyland loves something Disney did

r/disneyland is far and away the most positive, and least critical Disneyland fan board. I actually got ousted by a couple members off their discord for discussing my distate of the quality of the new auction scene, being accused of sexism for not liking the new dialogue and visuals that parody the original, and the lousy attempt at creating a strong female pirate to compete with Jack Sparrow without giving her any kind of real background or media. r/disneyland is a great forum for positive, magical discussion of the parks that's surface level and often uninformed. I go there for the photos, and occasionally there's amazing insight from a few great posters. Oh, and they hate micechat.

Then there's this forum- which I think strikes an excellent balance of some critical posters, some very positive ones, a few balanced ones- everyone coming from all over the political spectrum. Everyone on here respects eachother (I see this place get moderated very rarely- which means the mods are good at removing posts quick or it's just a mature group of people), allowing for vocal discussion of all aspects of the park and park management. I've actually learned quite a bit here.

Micechat tends to lean a bit to much on the "anti" side, but are often equally uninformed and just wrong at times. A few very vocal posters on there ruin it for the whole lot, but I still enjoy posting on there occasionally.

Discussing this change online is tough, since it combines a rough online conversation - people's views on "political correctness", and the ways people view Disneyland attractions- another very passionate discussion.

That's funny, I recall getting called out on MC back in the day for not being positive enough on a Disney board, which the posters there apparently believed meant that the forum had to keep up the "magical" Disney positivity. That's why I like WDWMagic so much, because it functions kind of like any other forum on the internet socially.
