According to Webster's web dictionary, both pronunciations are completely 100% correct. That being said, I have always used the first one. It may be a dialect thing, as I am from South Carolina. Perhaps they use the second pronunciation up North or out West.

Strangely, when I go on a cruise, I use the second pronunciation when talking about it. So, for me, it's #1 for the ride and #2 for the location.

Up here in Mass I say the first one :)

First.

I was thinking of this very question just the other day. I almost started a thread about it. Weird.

What's even weirder is that I waited a few days for you to post it, but just decided to do it myself when it became clear you weren't going to.:)

Weird, huh?

I use and learned the second one in English, so that´s the one that sounds better to me. :animwink:

---off topic--

North, you are in Anchorage! Cool! I just saw "Insomnia" this past weekend and liked what they show of it. Very weird to have daylight all day, but still very impressive scenary! :animwink:

Lol... that movied was filmed in Canada, I believe.

When I talk about the ride I use the first one.

But when I talk about the islands (no Pirates of...) I use the second one.

I thought I was the only person who did that. It's good to know that I'm not as abnormal as I once thought.
