Not a fan of the reworked auction scene. Just doesn't make a lot of sense why a pirate would be auctioning off chickens of all things. And the dialogue is...odd. As someone mentioned earlier, the redhead is too "cheerleader" like. Might have been more fun if she basically became a second auctioneer and took over. "You can keep clucking over those hens, but it's rum they're after! How 'bout it boys - how much fer the rum?" A subtle tweak but one that I think would be more interesting for the scene, to have dueling auctioneers.

Separate from all that though, why is this still an issue? How hard is it to adjust light levels correctly so you're not casting a bright shadow on the ceiling? There's issues with this in the burning town scene, too, and there's no reason for it. Just sloppiness! :banghead:

It's amateur hour rn at MK. Splash has so many dead plants around the back stretch you can see the parking lot adjacent to the parade building. So many bad sightlines right now. Maintenance is not up to par. Hopefully it's just that all the good people are on the new projects.

That's just the result of an overexposed scene in general (look at the rest of the background and the ship itself). When you're on the ride you can't see it, or at least - don't notice it.

Was ready to be offended by the new scene and am now just confused...That's just bad. Tell me again why the Pirates care about buying items they just stole?

Its so awful...They are buying chicken and rum? THEY ARE PIRATES!!!

The pirates who got to the town first are trying to offload excess plunder to other pirates who came later. That's the way this scene has always worked since day one.

In terms of the mermaids being removed, I'm pretty much ok with that (mostly because they never worked). I will miss the mermaid tied up in the boat though. Obviously it was an OST reference, but I thought that it fitted in nicely with the rest of the scene. The beach looks kind of empty now that it's gone.

Also noticed that "Jolly Sailor Bold" is no longer being played in the background. I did like it playing though, because it sounded kind of erie and added to the creepiness, but I think this is a good move. There is a lot going on with the song and the audio from skull being played at the same time. Will also say that version of "Jolly Sailor Bold" wasn't the best. Then again, no version could ever be as bad as the one from The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow. That was just downright awful. The version from the movie is by far the best.

Ranks right up there with that Splash Mountain Rap...

LOL Wow. I only remember DL's special with Ernest. Hahahaha I don't know what's worse. The fact that they got Nick from Family Ties to host it? The awful 'rap' song? Or the fact that they didn't even turn on the water or have it ready to go in time for the big flume finale for the darn special! :D

I'm not going to watch the video at all until I go later this summer. But I'll be riding DL's in June to witness what I have feared since they announced this change. Judging by all of the reactions on here...it sounds like it's bad. I knew it was probably going to happen, but was Paul Frees' Auctioneer dialogue completely removed? That's such a huge loss. First we lost his ghost narration and the Blackbeard captain and the pooped pirate...and now no more Auctioneer? His voice is sorely missed more than ever now.

Because as I stated earlier the refurb is behind schedule. It’s been behind schedule since day 1. It wasn’t even clear if the ride was going to reopen today. Yesterday boats were unable to make it along the up-ramp. They kept falling back into the water into other boats. The ride has evacuated several times today. This was rushed and corners were cut every where they could be.

I just can't believe that this is the final, agreed-upon version of this scene. Presumably, many people looked at concept drawings and script changes, no doubt showing-of all things-ruffian pirates attending a chicken auction. This is the final result. This is the height of their imagination. This is what the budget and those in charge allowed.

There are so many other routes they could have taken. As others have said, I find the removal of Paul Frees' lines to be the most egregious. Yes, script changes had to be made, and Mr. Frees is long dead. But there are so many talented voice actors who could have done a convincing imitation. They also could have put some sort of filter/effect on the recording itself so the new dialogue doesn't stick out any more than it already does. So now The Auctioneer sounds like Patchy the Pirate from Spongebob. Lovely.

Secondly, if you want to empower a female character, go all in on it. Don't go half in, giving her marginally more to do than what she had before. Give her a gun in this case, have her be equally as menacing as her male counterparts.

Does WDI not realize how iconic the line "We wants the Redhead!" is? You have people chanting it as they disembark, they sell t-shirts and pins with the phrase printed on them, and yet they couldn't find any way of keeping it. The idea posted here to have the auction attendees chanting "We wants the Redhead!" followed by the Redhead firing warning shots at them, prompting their chant to change to "We wants the rum!" is such a simple alternative, it's mind boggling that they didn't go in this direction.

This all feels like change for change's sake.

Hopefully the powers that be see this as the half-effort it is, and make the appropriate changes to the new scene.

Still laughing at the idea that Pirates (who pillage, plunder, rifle and loot) are now so ethical as to hold an auction for the items to sell to themselves??? All while the town is being looted and burned in the next scene
I may be misinterpreting, but I thought the idea now is that they are selling to the townspeople things they just stole from the townspeople (and from the people of other towns).
