Pirates of the Caribbean closed in June for refurb

According to Disney's rate calendars, this refurb is not happening during peak season, but rather, during regular/summer season.

But then again, for those who complain about refurbs during their vacations, it's seemingly always peak season. Like hyphnt said, this has to happen sometime, and I too would rather have a better experience during my next trip! Something to look forward to. I know I can't wait until I'm unable to ride one of my favorites, Space Mountain, because that means that I'll be able to ride a much improved version a trip (or maybe two trips, in its case) later!

so we only get 3 days to ride it...
At least you have 3 days. I had 11 hours to ride BTM last year, after a 6 year wait for the WDW version. And boy did we ride it... :D

-not that I`m complaining. On the contrary, we`ve seen what becomes of attractions with no TLC.

Maybe they will fix the poor audio and sound which to me was horrible after that last refurb, I dont know what they did but it just wasnt good like it use to be.

It's been reported on several sites that WDW took the cheaper way out compared to the full rehab that Disneyland's Pirates got. That's why the audio still sounds so muddled and garbled in WDW's version.

At Disneyland they went through and replaced all 200+ speakers in the 15 minute long version of the ride, but at WDW they only replaced a small number of speakers where new Jack Sparrow figures had been placed in the 8 minute long version at WDW.

The Disneyland version is stunning when it comes to all of the new lighting and audio and technology it received in the big rehab of 2006. Maybe they will fix that mistake at WDW and replace all of the rest of the 1970's speakers and light fixtures for this early summertime rehab?

Our rehab is great thank you. No such garbled sounds.

Anyhoo, good to hear! I wish more big rides got a touch-up now and then.

I really dont know if thats true or not, but I havn't personally been able to tell any difference between the two refurbs. I have ridden both the new DL verison and the WDW version, and both refubs seem to be of the same quality. Obviously DL has a different show and length, but the quality of what was done at both seems the same to me.

^^ Just an example of people listening to mindless internet jabber on other sites that will remain nameless. That and people insistent on deciding who can ______ the farthest instead of just enjoying all of the goodies no matter what city it's in. I too have been on all three (TDL's as well), and can't tell the difference (though that said they ALL could stand the volume to move up a few clicks, lol)

What they did was a very half-assed rehab that basically added some 2006 sound equipment in certain areas (where the new AAs/effects are) and left the 1973 era stuff in the rest ... the result is an aural mess as the sound bleeds and goes from too loud to too soft.

I am having such mixed emotions about this news. The ride will be closed thru my whole visit. And it seems like a pretty busy weekend to start a refurb. I know a LOT of Pirates in red that weekend will be disappointed. On the other hand, having worked that attraction for 4 years, I have such ride-pride, I get very excited about any TLC my baby can get. I'm looking forward to things being fixed and tweaked. SOMEONE TELL ME HOW TO FEEL ABOUT THIS!!!!

It is true.

The time and money went into DL's version. There's no comparison, not that there was to begin with.

But I can tell you for a fact that DL got a 21st century sound system throughout, while WDW didn't. It got a bit new and most old. And, frankly, it sounds worse now than it did in 2006 before the changes.

People still don't get this concept or what? Disneyland is a small theme park with little to no room for expansion. They had to expand DCE into its parking lot for gods sake. As has been said on here hundreds of times, DL is made up mainly of locals, thus requiring constant change and improvements to keep it fresh. Even if that means just upgrading ride audio or animatronics. DL also has less grounds that need to be taken care of, so more money can go to the attractions. In WDW, a portion of the funds from the theme parks has to go towards taking care of the whole property ( monorails, roads, all the trees and grassy fields you pass up on the way to the parks, etc. ), not just that select theme park, as in DL. Don't forget things like Magical Express. Where do you think that money comes from? Everything those parks make has to fund a place twice the size of Manhattan.

WDW has over 25,000 resort rooms and timeshares that pump up Disney's coffers annually. The resort, in good times (and the past 3-4 years have been very good), makes more than enough to reinvest in a much larger way than what has happened.

To suggest that WDW can grow stale or things can be left unmaintained due to size of the property is just not the case.

Just one other thought ... and that's that a 13-day rehab really isn't time to significantly improve an attraction or plus it ... I would guess this is something mechanical ... could be anything from needing to drain the water to replacing the AC ... anything.

Oh well, I'll have a few days to ride when I get there the 1st of June. This is the second year in a row they shut something down during my trip. HM was last year on the same day(5th). I cant wait to see the new scenes since I was there last....

:)

Two questions:

1. Does anyone know if this sort of short refurb is usually finished on time?
2. When they say 5th-18th does that mean it's scheduled to reopen on the 18th or 19th?

My boys will be disappointed if we miss it this time around, and I may shift our vacation a couple of days so that we can try to hit it.
