Pirates of the Caribbean Auctioneer/Redhead Changes NO POLITICS or SOCIAL ISSUES, PLEASE!

Well, they definitely made an effort to make the auction scene look very much the same, in terms of figures, positioning and lighting at least. I was expecting it to seem noticeably different looking for some reason.

Of course the primary concern is losing the original dialogue. Someone on YouTube commented (I know that's not a good source) that the dialogue was entirely re-recorded. The "We wants the redhead" was kind of kept in that the crowd on the right side of the river is now supposedly saying "We want weapons. Like the redhead! Yeah like the redhead!" Hopefully that isn't the case for the U.S. parks and at least some effort is made to preserve some of the original audio.

Also god help me if they ever put movie characters into the caverns in America. I really, really hope that Barbossa AA never makes it over here.

Watched the videos a few times and much to my amazement, the new Auction scene... works. What is rather amazing too is that they got the original voice actor who did the 1992 dialogue to record the new lines and spliced them in with the rest of the dialogue.

The new dialogue goes like this from the lines I heard on the videos:

- The auction starts you bunch of pirates (Forban is an alternative way of saying pirate in french). Make me an offer for those charms and necklaces. A real treasure!

- The dialogue about the six bottles of rum was preserved.

- Right after that, the pirates in the crowd call out for Weapons like the Redhead. Here is where you can't rely on google translate as the dialogue in french would imply that they want weapons like the Redhead is holding.

I hate hate HATE to be the grammar police but it's 'intents and purposes' not intensive.

Never knew! Thanks. 'Though you could have just PM'd me, ya egghorn!

I had such an internal battle with this, because I reaaaaally wanted to post the same thing, but I didn't wanna be THAT GUY. I finally decided not to, but it woulda been worth it to be the one called an egghorn! What a fantastic name to call somebody, I love it!

Watched the change. If that's what we're getting stateside...
My only complaint is unnecessarily covering her up, but, that's a very minor quibble and frankly doesn't bother me anywhere near as much as some people who are upset by the whole thing. They even managed to fit in the old line. Seems like people got in a tizzy for nothing.

Now if only we could get more of the Paris changes. I've heard ONLY that scene is changing at WDW, which is unfortunate. Barbossa and the key pirate AA getting an update was pretty cool.

I had read that the dialogue was completely different, where did they fit the old line in?

I was under the impression that they still said it, but if I'm wrong, my mistake. My French isn't the best, had to use google translate.

Unnecessarily altering an iconic scene by rearranging things to make less sense. Yeah, I don't get why people would be upset by that.

Okay but is it iconic though, the scene itself? I always thought the redhead was more iconic all in of herself than the whole scene. And I thought I was weird for always singling her out- scenewise my mind always goes to the three pirate singers at the start of the flaming section and the guys in the jail with the dog.

Eh. What do I know.

I want the Barbossa added so we can put the original captain back on his ship.
But where could he go? The only place I can think of is on a ledge where the mermaid projections used to be. Unless, of course, it's too close to the Davey Jones mist screen (when it works).

n discussing the change with my DS, he shared some brilliant insight with me.
He said:
"Why would the pirates hold an auction of the items people are bringing them? Wouldn't they just steal the money from the people that came to the auction AND take the items with them?"

They could always just do completely away with the mist screen, since it never made a lick of sense in Florida anyways.
That would be fine with me but since they finally seem to have it working again (or is it broken again?), they might be reluctant to do that. Besides, mist and a projector are a whole lot cheaper than a state of the art AA. Also, the mist screen seems to be in Paris now so it may be some Imagineer's pet project.

"You are very smart and a better show writer than those that WDW imagineering are using."
I could be mistaken, but my interpretation of the reworked scene is that the red head and auctioneer are forcibly selling off the goods to the other pirates, not back to the townsfolk themselves. I guess we'll have to wait for the full English dialogue to be revealed to know definitively.

One way or the other, I think the point of this scene (both the reworked and original) is amidst all of the looting and piracy, there's this zany and farsical attempt at legitimate commerce. Participants were being forced both ways, it's just the object of the "auction" that is different.
