I have no problem with TDC making sound business decisions which they have a long history of doing.

The question is which are sound and not sound! WDW's Tiki Room Under New Management (now returning to Jose's control after 13 years Thankfully!) and Disney's (now being reimagined at a cost over a billion dollars) California Adventure park are two examples of what were not Sound.

In this case though I believe the GF DVC wil end up being an excellent addition to the GF resort.

I'm fully confident that it will fit in well with other structures.

I am too!! In fact I would bet that in 15 years people will never realize the DVC was newer than the orignal buildings!!! I imagine that Guests will think that it "Always was there".....

First they over built Yacht and Beach and now this. I'd stayed there before and during construction of the DVC. I saw what it looks like after. Why not just build new resorts for the DVC owners? Stop ruining what had charm.

Whenever they announce these 'wonderful' ideas I wonder if they sit in a meeting and just say, what resort can we make look over crowded and ruin the beauty of?

I hope that Poly will somehow be passed over for this treatment but its probably wasted effort.

Because new resorts require new infrastructure to support them. Adding on allows them to use the existing infrastructure. Very sound business decision.

hmm

I do not understand why people are upset. DVC rooms are high quality. I would think a high end resort would need high end suites. This expansion would add suites that cash paying people could also reserve.

Also what are the numbers like for guests staying at the gf? Is disney having trouble getting people to actually stay there?

People hate change. Also, it was a nice beach, so I can see that.

No, they aren't, for the most part. But DVC is a separate company, which is why they are building a new section for DVC instead of repurposing existing GF rooms.

So any guesses on how many units this will have and how fast they will sell out?

I say like 125 units, and 6 months at the most.

Just got an email from DVC that stated they think BLT will sell out sometime in late summer. This will be the next big thing.

And I still think they can squeeze in a DVC at Poly.

It's not necessarily that people have anything against DVC (that is discussed in lots of other threads). I think in this particular case, people would be upset even if it was a regular hotel building.

I think if if doesn't effect the look of the shoreline negatively, it will be fine. I'd love for it not to interfere with the walkway between the Poly and the GF because it's such a nice, convenient walk.

Now, if I were planning a wedding at the wedding pavilion I might be a little concerned. :(

I was thinking something more like this a couple of months ago.

If the location of this project is getting people upset, I could only imagine how your proposal would go over. I think it would be cool, but I can see a lot of fan backlash with buildings hanging out over the water.

well it was more positive than the response to poly being turned into a copy of Aulani.

It also was part of the wedding pavilion being moved to beachcomber island to create a wedding island resort.

I personally don't think they would build on an island, for the sole reason of safety. If there was a fire or emergency - that could be a nightmare.

Well there would be two different boat launches and I don't see more than 22 - 44 guests staying overnight. During the day, I think there would be less than 300 people on the island at once. I could see disney having two boats used just for the island, one that would hold 25 guests and other that would hold 50. Disney had discovery island used before without any problems. Really the biggest risk on the seven seas lagoon is the ferries.

Hhhmmm, I dunno. Discovery Island was a walk through park. Nothing very sophisticated or even electrical. The question would be - how would rescue crews be able to get to an island? Not to mention - how could electric, water, etc. be provided to an island in a cost-effective and reasonable manner?

DI was powered, the lights are still on on the island.

The distance between beachcomber's island and DF is only 250 feet. This distance shouldn't present any difficulties in getting utilities to the island or with any kind of evacuation procedures.

This map shows what the seven seas lagoon will look like with my ideas for a wedding island and a poly dvc, along with the gf dvc.

I went to my wedding planning session today at Disney and they provided me with these images of what construction will look like during different phases. And my planner did say that they are a few weeks behind at the moment.
