I know Disney wants to but there is simply no room for it without knocking down an existing structure.

Model it after bora bora, except for the stairways into the water.

However, since I'm feeling preachy about weddings right now, what's more important, getting married or your wedding?

We were supposed to have ours outside but it rained. We got married in front of our buffet table in the reception hall, and I would do it again, because getting married was important...not the wedding.

I agree with your point about the marriage itself being more important than the ceremony. BUT a contract was signed with Disney. I have no idea the terms of the contract, but if a couple was promised a certain location in a certain quality, I imagine that construction would void a portion of that contract. I don't know if construction of a new DVC falls under the "Acts of God" most contracts use as an out, but I would hope Disney has a phenomenal alternative in play, or will be compensating the inconvenienced guests.

It would be like test driving and paying for a brand new BMW, but getting one that had been in a few accidents. It still runs, still gets you to places, and its still a BMW, but it's not the brand new BMW that you paid for and are expecting.

Your wedding planner probably didn't know about it and probably does not have very much information about it.

I'm sure with enough prodding they will let you out of their contract if it really is such an issue.

Well if it is just about getting married...maybe I should just go down to the courthouse...it sure would save me a lot of money...:hammer: I think you are missing the point. This has been my dream ever since I was a little girl. I am an Orlando native and Disney has always been in our lives. Every time the monorail would go by the Wedding Pavilion (and especially when I would see Cinderella's coach out front) I would dream about my wedding day and how perfect that location would be. My fiance and I have been engaged for almost 3 years...and we waited this long to get married because we wanted him to be done with law school first (he takes the bar in two weeks). I specifically chose this date because of the holiday weekend (Veteran's day) and because of the nicer weather in November.

And I am not looking to get out of my contract at this point. We are four months away from the wedding...the save the dates have already been sent, people have already started to book hotel rooms, the formal invitations are being printed overseas as we speak, and I have my planning session and menu tasting in two weeks. There is no turning back now so whatever is going to happen will happen. It is just upsetting that Disney is keeping couples in the dark when it comes to the most important (and expensive) day in our lives.

And I do believe that the wedding planners know more than they are letting on. They have told other brides that they are already figuring out an alternate route for Cinderella's coach, they are finishing up the installation of the new stained glass windows to block construction around July 18th, and they are already looking into alternate photo locations for before/after the wedding. They even told a bride that photographers can "edit out the construction" from her pictures . Why would they be doing all of this if they had no idea what was going on?

I have been so laid back regarding everything for my wedding up until this point, but I may have to let the Bridezilla side of me come out if I don't get any concrete information soon...I just feel like I am being kept in the dark about something incredibly important...and now that construction walls are actually up and they are STILL acting like nothing is going on makes it that much worse. :(

And regarding the person who asked if I could change my location to the Poly- they do hold weddings there but only for like 10-15 people. The only other locations for 200 people would be in a ballroom in one of their convention centers or the Croquet lawn at the Boardwalk. And I'm not a big fan of either of those locations....nor do I know if they are even available at this point.

FWIW, it is unlikely that this contract could be voided, all depends on the "purpose" of the agreement. If the view of the castle were blocked there would be a point, but this construction won't be visible from the wedding pavilion at all from what I understand.

Disney may be willing to negotiate though, and if you make a big enough of an issue out of it, maybe they'll upgrade you to another location that could hold your guests (such as inside the MK). Also just because it isn't in their brochures doesn't mean they can't do it- they could literally do a wedding anywhere on property, and if you're willing to put up enough money you could probably get married inside the Haunted Mansion. That said, they do several weddings there a day, not sure how much flex-room they have or how willing they will be to accommodate everyone. Still, worth a shot. It's your wedding, demand the sky and see what you can get. Never hurts to ask.

Was your dream to be married or have a wedding at Disney? Because those are two vastly different things.

If you don't think your wedding planner is being honest, then perhaps you should involve a supervisor. When the castle was turned into a cake for the 25th, I know a couple who made plans before that happened and ended up with a pretty hefty discount.

If they believed that the overall response to a major capital expenditure was going to be negative, do you really think they would build it? It might not have the full seal of approval from this group and other mega fans, but I believe that the overall response will be extremely positive.

Absolutely. As long as they have enough people who love it to buy it out. There's really no reason to pretend that this is about anything other than the cash... The current management has already made it abundantly clear with other projects that 'if you don't like it...well, you'll get used to it..'

Just as an FYI, the planners are contacting the brides and going over each and every aspect that will be an issue with you brides.
There are only i think 4 planners for all of WDW so bear with them,,THey prob were not ALLOWED to tell you anything until now, most likely caused by their managers trying to figure out over the last few months since this GF expansion began to surface.
hang in there....i heard of such things as removing glass windows from the wedding pavilion and placing stained glass to aviod seeing these walls and construction, these are such extremes they are going to go to...as far as the cinderella coach route, im sure it will be a good route....they will prob even dress it up with nice landscaping, alot of florals to prob even be better than the normal route....

....Disney will do well with all of this, they just need(ed) time to prep for all this

you are jumping to negative conclusions even before they have had a chance to smooth it all out

I think many are just upset about another DVC being built which I do not understand either. What is wrong with opening up one of the best resorts on property to the loyal die hard fans?

It has always been open to the "loyal die hard fans". The GF is open for anyone to book a room. And no, being a DVC member does not automatically classify you even as a fan, anymore than a gym membership makes you a fitness fanatic. As I have said before, I haven't made a judgment since it hasn't been built yet....I am just saying I am skeptical based on recent projects and decisions.

In order for something to sell, enough people have to like it. As I often say, a bunch of diehards on Disney site are a poor focus group for any project since we are not the audience that Disney caters to. Remember that even though DVC usually means frequent visits to the resort, there is only a small percentage of members who are fans like we are. These "regular people" will probably be thrilled that they will have the opportunity to stay at the Grand Floridian with points. Since I doubt that Disney will do anything that will hurt their thriving wedding business in the long term, I am confident that things will be taken care of extremely well. Disney has never given me a reason in their resorts to not believe in their decisions.

I have no problem with TDC making sound business decisions which they have a long history of doing.

TDC has made many sound business decisions. They have made many bad ones as well. Just because TDC has given the greenlight to a project does not make it a good decision. The company has spent the better part of a decade righting a lot of wrongs. With that said, the proof will be in the pudding..

Fair enough. I think it is a safe assumption that a majority of DVC owners are fans though.

I think they are way beyond 50/50, which is the inference I get from your post.

The problem is, the weddings dept. has absolutely no input in the decision to build DVC right next door to the wedding pavilion. This is a case of the resort becoming so large that one hand doesn't know what the other is doing (or just not caring). While I am sure the wedding pavilion was taken into account, it is now up to the weddings group to figure out how to best deal with construction, settle the nerves of brides, (nearly all of whom had no idea this would be happening) and ultimately handle the issue of the large building which will be looming over it next door. They have a chance to do the right thing here - putting extensive landscaping, notifying brides of other options, some form of discount, etc. Let hope they do.

I also think many are being rather harsh on the bride here. While yes, the marriage (not the wedding) is the ultimate goal, weddings can and should be a memorable, wonderful experience for the couple and their guests. No matter where you get married, in WDW or not, if there was going to be a massive construction project going on next to your wedding venue, and the wedding planner wasn't addressing your concerns, you'd likely be quite upset as well.

Like I said earlier, I firmly believe that Disney won't do anything that hurts their successful and extremely profitable wedding business. While the construction may be problematic in the short term, I think that once it is done the Wedding Pavilion will still be great.
