Already love this new design! Efficiency may be Disney's last Four Key but it is always my favorite and I'm glad they're doing what they can to make the arrival process less messy.

The other major advantage of screening at the resorts and TTC instead is that it reduces the risk of an idiot with a gun or a knife in a monorail cabin.

I know the UK is obsessed with knife crime but the metal detectors will not find a ceramic knife. The backscatter systems do see this because the reflectance of that ceramic is off the charts.

Yes you would have to go through security twice. I am just unsure as to why one would park at the TTC to go to Epcot.

Hypothetical situation: You are attending MVMCP or MNSSHP at MK later that night, but want to tour Epcot for the day. Park at TTC, monorail to Epcot, come back to MK for party and your car is in the TTC lot.

Or, maybe MK is open late and you plan to finish your night there, so you park at TTC, monorail to Epcot for the day. Maybe you have a dining reservation, or you have a few drinks but no worries because you don't have to drive back to MK - just monorail. By park close, you've sobered up, your car is in the TTC waiting for you and you go home.

Just off the top of my head, these two came to mind. I'm sure there's other reasons people might park at TTC but include an Epcot stop in their day. *shrugs*

I'm sure that the Contemporary's security issues will be resolved over time. As with any new initiative, there's going to be some teething issues. I think on a whole, given it's the first day mind you, it's a success.

Any chokepoint is technically "very vulnerable". Their (Universal's) processes, procedures, equipment, and layout is absolutely better in every way.

Checkpoints are the most vulnerable points in US security almost anywhere because they are one way chokepoints that limit escape routes for potential victims especially for an attacker who is willing to die in the attempt.

My worry in the USA is guns, not knives
Generally knife crime over here is gang related anyway, so even in a theme park I don't feel likely to get caught up in it. But the chance of some unstable person getting hold of a gun and doing serious damage is a lot higher in US than UK.

I can't fathom why they wouldn't put the security screening up on South side of the monorail platform. It's crazy long and largely unused

Not sure why anyone would want to go during what is the busiest week of the year. I would rather go during the summer, if there is a choice between those 2 options. Of course, we never go during those crazy times anyway, but our kids are grown and married, so we go when we want.

Is it? I forgot. But what about the exit ramp? It has previously brought you down outside security (obviously)? So I guess that's the million dollar question.

Universal is doing nothing special or more "secure." Their checkpoint is also very vulnerable.

The Universal system surprised even me for its efficiency at peak times. The shear amount of open lanes, each with a dedicated bag scan and arch was great to see. And made standing lines non existent.

Personally I'm just looking forward to getting a photo of the MK tiled mural outside the park with no one stood on it again.

Any word on how traveling to Epcot via monorail works? Does one have to go through 2 security checks.

For now yes. The Epcot gate is in theory next to be rearranged.

I suppose with WDW there's never truly an "uncrowded time" to roll a change as big as this out, but this is a big spring break week. Fortunately, Easter is a little more separated from a lot of spring breaks this year. If they can roll this out without too many headaches, while simultaneously improving the MK entry process for guests, this will end up being a success, IMO. There will be many things that need to be tweaked, and hopefully permanent structures put in place, but I think it's a big improvement over the way they've been doing this.

But those crowds are now going to be downstairs clogging the entire area. Moving half of the crowds up top for a bag check would at least solve half the problem, right? There's no perfect solution, but there are far better ones than what's happening today and moving the checks up top seems to be the best option if they can solve the elevator issue.

As long as strollers and large backpacks are allowed into Disney, it will be very easy to bring a knife or gun. Security has never given my tripod a second look, and my camera bag is always open, but they never remove my camera to see what might be under it. Last month I took a cup of coffee from the Polynesian on the ferry to the MK, I could fit a big knife inside if I wanted. Last year, I brought a Nautilus from Trader Sams into the MK, security looks inside the Disney bag, but they never look in the boxes. Anyone who feels safer, is now less safe, because they are paying less attention to potential threats.

Please tel me not only am I checked getting from TTC to MK, now I am getting checked at the resorts? This is terrible! The last thing I want to do at ohana is have to get checked. Its bad enough I get the pat down everytime I visit.

LOL you do realize that is temporary? When FP+ was rolled out, it was a management disaster. Now, 2 years later its not needed. Their next management disaster was ROL lol. And now it will be security measures.

The check is not going into the resorts, it's people coming out of the resorts and getting onto the monorail. The monorail is inside the secure area now so you can freely leave the monorail, but to get back on you have to go through security.
