I don't think my comment was ridiculous and it didn't necessarily have to do with the play area. It had to do more with the theme itself, maybe I should have specified. But IMHO I don't like the idea of characters being added to areas they don't really need to be in.

Ok, but characters not at a Disney hotel??? We are talking about a hotel that is already littered with characters albeit done very tasteful. Bathroom wallpaper, window curtains, desk lamp, the character silhouettes on the floor by the Cafe. I agree with the post a few back, if they threw up a generic theme people would complain they didn't do enough.

This fits with the Alice presence already at the character breakfast and is far enough from the main building and most of the other buildings that it shouldn't take away from the Grand feeling. With all the cuts, this is a positive plus.

I wouldn't go that far.

What it is is more character "synergy". Love it, hate it, sugarcoat it all you want. But that's the truth.

For me it is a plus staying there. Instead of a dead zone of fake beach I can enjoy watching my kids play in an area that looks like it will be super fun. Heck I may try out the new slide myself. After all if a 32 year old cant act 5 at WDW where can he? And I fail to see the issue of character synergy at a Disney hotel.

Mom: So, Bob, where do you want to stay next year when we go to WDW?

Dad: Well, I was thinking Grand Floridian.

Mom: Isn't that a monorail resort?

Dad: Yes.

Mom: And aren't the monorails now shutting down one hour after the park closes, including EMH?

Dad: Why yes, yes they do. But, I swear, it is for maintenance.

Mom: The monorails aren't breaking down anymore?

Dad: Well, sure they do. But I swear, some people on a WDW fan board swear they are being fixed.

Mom: Ok, and didn't WDW recently cut EMH back from 3 hours to 2 hours?

Dad: Why, yes. But, great business decision. The social media, podcasters, and fans on WDW fan sites say so.

Mom: And wasn't Splash Mountain taken offline for EMH now and replaced by a show we can walk onto any time during the day?

Dad: Yes, but again, awesome business decision. Gotta give guests less entertainment for more money out of our pockets. Again, people on a WDW fan site says this is a great decision.

Mom: So, what you are telling me is, you want us to shell out $500 or more a night for the Grand Floridian, a monorail resort where we may or may not be able to use the monorail to get back to the resort at night after a shortened EMH where we cannot even ride one of the most popular attractions in the park? Why would I say yes to that when we can spend half the money and stay in a moderate. Or better yet, off site since the perks of staying onsite really are not worth it anymore?

Dad: Why? Because they now have a Alice in Wonderland themed water play area at the pool for Little Jimmy to run around in.

Mom: And that justifies $500 or more a night why?

Dad: WDW lovers say this is awesome. I think I even heard it on a podcast or two or three. I mean, if they say this is awesome, it has to be, right???

Mom: I'm calling Arkham Asylum. You need to be committed.

It would be a real shame if they make so many cuts that the only perk to staying at the GF would be the kids splash area LOL. That seems to be the way TDO is going. I have no problem staying off property if that's what it has to come to.

At first we were so so about staying at GF again because of the construction, I happen to love the Alice theme for the pool area and now that I know it's a bucket that will dump water on the kids we'll definately stay there, it will be my son's favorite part of the resort.

I personally love it. I have never really cared to stay at the GF because it didn't seem to kid friendly to me, other than the character meals at 1900 Park Fare. The resort it's self seems more for adults, which is fine, but if you are there with young children you do want them to feel comfortable and for them to have fun. I think this area was much needed.

This argument is tiring. Just having the ability to wheel a stroller onto the monorail to go to MK is worth the extra cost to some people. As far as I know the mid day monorail closures are done for now and hopefully for good due to the DVC construction.

I agree too, fits perfectly though we have booked the GF for next year DH is very leery of it because of the construction, can't wait to see the final pictures, any idea when all this work will be done (sorry if this is off topics).

Really love the way this looks. I think the best things to do with the high end resorts is to have them classically themed, such as the Grand Floridian being themed Victorian, and just have a little bit of character influence in them. I think it definitely keeps the feeling and classiness of the hotel with a little bit of kid appeal, for the kids and the kids at heart. I have usually stayed at the beach club and have to say I love the atmosphere there and with a character brunch or just one of the characters in the lobby, it makes things feel much more magical.

While I still would have preferred a non-character theme splash area if we absolutely had to have one, I think this looks very nicely executed, and not overly-imposing.

Looks good to me! Does anybody think it looks very similar to the kids play area at CBR (except with a different theme of course)?
