I could go with this if the glass floats hanging from the ceiling go up and down like the original balloons in The Land did...OK not gonna happen...

I have written a letter to Disney and posted this on their blog:

I am sick about the removal of the water feature. Walt Disney World is a business but it is not like most businesses. It's more like a baseball team or a football team in that a company may own it but in many ways it really belongs to the people. The Walt Disney Company sells fantasy, magic and dreams and many millions of us have paid a lot of money to create our family memories there. So we feel like we have invested part of ourselves and our families in our trips to the World. And whether we can afford to stay at the Polynesian or not many people come to visit the lobby and take in the sights, sounds and smells of this great hotel lobby, not to mention the beautiful grounds, tiki torches, great restaurants and gorgeous view of the castle from the beach.

As representatives of the Company you have the right to change the resort any way you see fit but if you expect people will not be upset about this change then you really do not realize what a fantastic job you have done inviting families and individuals to share their family vacation time at this wonderful resort over the years.

So of course I am upset and I would really like to know why the waterfall has to be removed. If it is due to mold, asbestos, leaks or any of that kind of stuff, well I just can't believe the company that built Spaceship Earth cannot rebuild it bigger and better than before. So that leads me to believe it is somehow just a money matter. Now I do not claim to understand why keeping or rebuilding the water feature would be so expensive, so why don't you explain it to your loyal fans?

Why don't you, the Disney company, just tell us why this has to be done. You don't have to do what we want you to do, but you at least owe us an explanation.

The fan base came with the iPod. Then the intel switch. No one remembers the 68 to ppc changeover. Or the beige G3. So of course it came with corporate choices.

But that's not the point. Apple can, and does, have that attitude because they can. They offer what they offer, a top-tier, no excuses product. They don't discount, they don't cost engineer. Everything (almost) they offer is top notch. Everything they present is reflective of that unwavering position. Disney isn't that. Disney value engineers, they discount, they visibly and obviously cut corners. Not saying Apple doesn't, but Apple takes it's image and reputation way more seriously than Disney. As long as Disney is known as the go-to kids brand, they're happy. If Disney could get away with selling sewage, even if for a short while, they would. That's not Apples mentality, Apple will sell you whatever they can, but not if it sells the brand short.

Apple do discount, at least in the UK. Not at their own shops, but it's permitted on their web site and for third party retainers to discount.

Apple don't cost engineer? Of course they do, every product is made to a cost specification. If they didn't cost engineer why not give people more than a poxy 16gb memory capacity or why they produce their products in chineese sweatshops.

Many Apple products are not top notch, what they do is market it like it's the dogs danglies....and in the main, people fall for it.

In the US they don't discount. Even third parties will only knock a few bucks off, if that.

If you need more than 16gb you probably need something beefier than a laptop.....step up to the Pro or just get a Windows machine. Building a machine to please every single consumer on the planet and cost engineering are two totally different things.

Ahh, the China argument, good one. I also like your list of products that aren't top notch.

Apple does market its product and people do buy it, yes, you are correct in that statement, dog balls and all.

You know, its funny.. I've never been even close to being able to afford a stay here and I've never even been in the hotel for said water feature... Is that weird? Are there pictures of it somewhere in the thread?

And it doesn't matter if you can afford the POLY or not. I always have visited the POLY. Always, whether I was at POP or an EPCOT resort, didn't matter. I show up and get a coffee and sit in the lobby if it's not too crowded or outside. I shop. I love their stores. We eat Ohana a lot and sometimes we eat at Capt Cook's, it is a pretty good QS place.

But that doesn't mean "do what the customer says" - as I said, more often then not they make horrible choices. What you do is listen to what their underlying need is.. and address it in a way that works for your needs and hopefully exceeds their expectations. Remember... the consumer knows how to to CONSUME, not how to build/design/sustain/etc.

You can ignore the customer's ask, and still make them happy if you understand what their actual need is.. not their ask.

A pro football coach ( whom you and I know) once said..... " I love the fans....but if I listen to them, and act upon according to what they say. I too will end up being a fan"
