Photo TR: Dan Smith's Trilogy Report

A long time ago, in a mental state far, far away...

dansmithtrilogy.png

It appears that I’ve neglected to post any trip report in here since last February (Shameless Plug™ #1), and as such, I feel like I’ve gone into a sort of relaxing retirement, where I can simply rest knowing the vast amount of money I’ve been paid to write these are generating steady interest in my savings account.

...Like HELL I have. A lot has happened since I turned 18, namely the craziest year of my life.* As a lot of you know by now, I made good on the acceptance from Florida Tech, and have been living in paradise (albeit coexisting with schoolwork) since last August. Being about an hour from the Orlando area, you can imagine I’ve visited WDW at least a couple of times since; though as you can also imagine, university work sort of takes precedence over posting TR’s. (Though not over actually going to the parks... GOD no.) Anyway, this trip report will actually consist of three separate parts, as most great trilogies do. The first is from August 9th (AK/DHS), just before I moved into residence; second is from the 22nd (MK/AK); and finally, from last week, January 23rd (Epcot). All will include hilarity, hijinks, and 30% more insanity than the leading standard, which is presumably Gary Busey.

Scene I: Random Dinosaurs

I'm starting at Downtown Disney the night before because I can and so there.

IMG_2002.jpg

It should be noted that we took the boat over from Port Orleans, wherein my sister and I listened to "I'm On A Boat" at unnecessarily loud levels on her iPod. One of the most pathetically awesome things we did that weekend.

IMG_1939.jpg

Oh my lord, it's another sad attempt at "artistic". NEXT.

IMG_1943.jpg

Disney has actually created a Disneyland exclusively for fleas. This was a poorly-planned venture, as fleas lack the money or pockets required to carry said so Disney may take it. As a result, this is the most crowded Main Street has ever been.

IMG_1947.jpg

Aah, but you can see it now... fleas from all walks of life coming to enjoy the whimsy and wonder of Disney. A family of fleas passes by, heading right for the biggest rides in the park. A travel group from the back of a Brazilian terrier, 1500 strong, waits for the signal to head to Mad Flea Party.

IMG_1951.jpg

...And at the very end of Main Street lies a castle that, unlike California's, a flea can actually enjoy without making "I'm crushing you" jokes.

IMG_1949.jpg

Even Disney's CEO thinks Micro Disneyland was a bad idea.

*Craziest year of my life so FAR.

Is there ANYTHING more fun than a Dan Smith trip report????
Well....maybe.
But still...the boy is soooo GOOD at this!

I know, right? Where else can you read a Disney trip report while listening to Bing Crosby croon "Just a Gigolo" at the same time!

1. 1985 Superbowl....Daaaa Bears.... Aren't you a little young to remember that????

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJNC3dgreaU

2. Just a Gigolo...David Lee Roth...bless his short little career heart after his stint with Van Halen. It was a cute video, none-the-less. Again, ain't you a little young to be knowin' all this 80's stuff???

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yPM7jdE7gWs

LOL! I love it, Dan! Keep it coming!

Young at heart. :D But to be perfectly honest, on the 2nd one I actually meant to quote Marty Feldman (Igor) from Young Frankenstein!

Which makes it funnier that this was unintentional:

...Well, not the fun part. That's sort of something I strive for. And heck, the more Bing I can get in a thread, the better!

Hilarious report. I shudder to think how cynical you'll be in 10 years.

See, in real life I honestly try finding the good in people/things (mostly)... so most of the cynicism you see here is just for show. As for the sarcasm, yeah, that's all me. :D

Thanks again for reading, all! Like I said, should be a few days on the next installment, but it'll be worth it 'cause there's a SURPRISE GUEST!

Great trip report so far!!

Now that you have lived in the South for 6 months, are you thinking of moving back to Canada after Graduation?

^I have no idea what I'm doing after graduation... if I can survive university long enough to get a bachelor's, though, I sort of plan to apply wherever some broadcast station needs me (TV weatherman 'n all). Could be a local station, could be a well-known affiliate... depends on how good I get.

Beverly, Brazilians and a Badass Finale

Welcome back to EPCOT, or as Walt stated in his vision, “Everybody Purchasing Crazy-Overpriced Tickets”.

IMG_3176.jpg

So, because my friend drove me today but didn’t stay for long, I decided to go the long way to Epcot (i.e. drop-off at TTC, experience “grimy-version” monorail beam for final time). Took about as much time as the regular parking would have anyway, though in hindsight, parking at the Boardwalk would’ve made more sense… but if there’s anything you should know by now, it’s that making sense has no place in my reports.

So… yeah. Mission: Sinise, which my sister finally went on the more-intense side and actually LOVED it, and this is coming from the person who comes close to freaking out at the “drop” in Pirates.

IMG_3169.jpg

One little spark of inspiration got replaced by a relative lack of imagination. Irony is never lost on modern-day Epcot, is it?

IMG_3171.jpg

“Look at all the tour groups! There must be a Brazilian of ‘em!” -- Dan, on the subject of horrible puns

IMG_3177.jpg

“See, my bro, Jaws? He’s actually pretty nice, good with kids. It was always just that damn Roy Scheider… he wanted a bigger boat, J-Dog wanted more screen-time and to look less mechanical. Guess who won? I mean, for God’s sake, he had a whole monologue written out for his death scene and Spielberg didn’t go for it.”

(Moral of the above: You can make any picture/caption combo work, as long as you’re clinically insane.)

Coral Reef for lunch, and holy crap, chicken with Applewood bacon and pasta = love.

IMG_3179.jpg

Also tasty, but with a noticeably unfortunate lack of bacon.

IMG_3184.jpg

“But why can’t you rebuild past Epcot instead?” – Fanboys

IMG_3210.jpg

Tried to duplicate a shot I took last February. I wouldn’t call it a fail, per se, but… sort of.

“Blind taste tests: Nothing bad can ever become of them!”

IMG_3187.jpg

“Mmmmmyes, an unmistakably bold taste… and do I detect a faint hint of liquid failure…?”

IMG_3188.jpg

“…OHMUHGUH ITALY WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN MY PALATE?!”

IMG_3189.jpg

This kid was awesome. It was his birthday, so the mariachi band sang to him while he ate a unicorn pop and didn’t give a crap about said band.

BLARG

IMG_3198.jpg

I really want this roof, if only to have shingle-installers become incredibly confused, then I can yell at them to get off my lawn, and then when they climb down, to get off my lawn again! Ha-HA! I’m old, you see.

IMG_3212.jpg

Some boats have T-Pain. Some boats have dangerous explosives. Some boats with dangerous explosives need to be overtaken by John McClane. This is one of those three. Choose wisely.

Random fish.

The Mr. Pickles family tree.

HARIBO HARIBO OMG HARIBO… they’re quite good, is what I mean to say.

Pictured: Where I spent an entire half of my first-ever day on Disney property in 1994.

IMG_3228.jpg

Epcot was smart to build the Italy pavilion on the exact opposite side of the park from their liquid failure substation.

IMG_3231.jpg

“And the Lord spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin. Then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceedeth to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in my sight, shall snuff it.” Amen. (And yes, I typed that out of memory. I’m a nerd. Deal with it.)

IMG_3230.jpg

The Roman Super Bowl never really caught on, but the losing team was always stoned to death, making it more badass than today’s commercial break with a football game in between.

IMG_3237.jpg

“Well, boys, the pizzeria looks good enough. Let’s set opening day for next week.”

“But, sir, remember what happened with Test Tra…”

“Cram it, Luigi.”

IMG_3235.jpg

Testing your colour settings out of courtesy.

IMG_3238.jpg

“Our planet has been through a lot this year, but we have not forgotten what is truly important... the great taste of Charleston Chew!”

IMG_3239.jpg

America! **** YEAH!

IMG_3242.jpg

Apple pie! Baseball! Eagles! The 80’s! Economic depression!

IMG_3246.jpg

My favourite show on Disney property. (No, seriously. Voices of Liberty first, American Adventure second. These people are awesome.)

“Well, sure, I get the $100, but if it’s any consolation, George, you’ll be featured on a lot of fast-food dollar menus some day.”

IMG_3276.jpg

Oh, if I had a quarter for every time…

IMG_3256.jpg

“If this car goes under 50 miles an hour we’ll all EXPLODE!”

IMG_3258.jpg

Mounties! Snow! Hockey! Maple syrup! Celine… uh… Tim Hortons!

IMG_3260.jpg

This reminds me: my birthday’s coming up next week, and the opening ceremony of the 2010 Games happens to fall on the same day… so why is it that while this is occurring (not to mention I’d turn legal for drinking/casinos in Canada), am I not in the damn country for another three months? Sigh. Though in reality I’d probably have one drink and get blitzed enough to be thrilled by the penny slots.

IMG_3267.jpg

Okay, so backstory: I was about to leave for Epcot that morning, when forum member Krystyna (DisneyBunny) kindly informs me that she (and husband and OMG adorable child) would be at the park as well. So, after probably a whole day of playing unsuccessful phone tag, I finally got to have my first WDWMAGIC meet!

IMG_3278.jpg

…Wherein we mostly hung out by the model trains for about a half-hour. Anya, the slightly littler one, is apparently fascinated with trains… girl after my own heart, that one.

“Hey, Dan, could you make it look like your thumbs are cut off instead?” (Hi Dot.)

IMG_3280.jpg

“Much obliged.”

IMG_3281.jpg

So yeah, it was only for maybe an hour, but that was one helluva 60-minute meet. Thanks again to Krystyna/Marc/Anya!

Oh, and also, the driver mentioned earlier brought 3 other friends of ours along that night, so we went to Beaches & Cream after in order to tackle the Kitchen Sink. There were no survivors.

IMG_3325.jpg

Just want to take a second to thank every last one of you for reading these crazy things over the years. As cliché as it sounds, I know you guys seem to inexplicably enjoy reading, but it’s a lot more fun from my end of the internet to know you guys DO enjoy it.

…However, in order to balance out the sentimentality, I’ll end with this. Good night, folks!
