Photo TR: Dan Does Disney, 8/21 - 8/30

Hey all! Just got back from another great WDW vacation, complete with free dining, tropical storm action, and three full days at Epcot! Our main intent was to drop my sister back off at college in the Tampa-St. Pete area, but this was also supposed to be regarding my college choice for next year as well. Unfortunately, both of my prospective schools (Florida Tech in Melbourne and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical in Daytona) were essentially under about a foot of water and above on our scheduled tour dates earlier in the trip. Disappointing obviously, but the irony is that I want to major in meteorology, so it's all good. I'll probably get the chance to go back in October or thereabouts, also, so it‘s not a total educational loss.

Anyway, after the long-winded opening paragraph comes an even longer prelude extravaganza of stuff around Orlando in the first few days of our visit. Because of our tour cancellations, we basically just toted around the Orlando area for a couple of days, so the aforementioned WDW pics will most certainly appear tomorrow afternoon. (I do have a job, folks.)

So, without further adieu or complaints, I present to you in amazing RectangleVision format, the Dan Smith tourist extravaganza!

We open this vacation with a special preview of Soarin' over Detroit! (Polluted rivers, construction and mayoral corruption can now be enjoyed from high altitudes.)

The lighting scattered over the clouds made the sky look remarkably like a glassy lake with mist rising all across.

It even comes complete with its own ghost ship!

I only kept this because it very accurately describes our descent into Orlando. Just our luck that Tropical Storm Fay was unleashing her worst yet on the central Florida area the same night of our intended landing. I'm quite surprised that we managed to land at ALL... I mean, I love wild rides as much as the next guy, but I was damned scared of those crosswinds when we dropped like a rock onto the runway!)

Indeed we are! (As much as I love the Simpsons, I love BTTF with a passion rivalled perhaps only by that one guy who hand-built an exact Delorean time machine replica.)

From what I recall, we ate at Olive Garden this night. Minestrone soup + breadsticks = Italian awesomeness.

Not only are they Canadian... it's bagpipe rock. This is automatically more awesome than AC/DC headlining for Metallica headlining for Elvis. (Still a notch below Queen, though.)

That night, I rejoined the family for some good Dr. Kaufhaus-approved cuisine.

Unfortunately this is where my Walt Disney World trip report comes to a close.

...OK, actually this is, only because I want to prove that there are still plenty of Hidden Mickeys off-property when you're 30,000 feet above.

So, we've shared a few laughs, a few tears at my lame captions, been over Epcot more than enough times, and I got to bring you all with me.

In other words, this TR was the best armchair vacation I've ever experienced.

Thanks again to all of you who took the time to read, or at least post to the effect that you feigned interest in what I had to say.

…Unless you skipped to here and read nothing, in which case I direct your attention to the button for Page 1. Click and enjoy.

Until next time, folks...

Sorry to burst your bubble Dan, but Off Kilter are not Canadian. They play at the Canadian Pavilion, but Jamie is from Ormond Beach, Florida, Mark Is from Cork City, Ireland, Scotty is a native Floridian, Tony is from Mayaquez, Puerto Rico and Randy is a Florida boy as well.

They're still great to listen to though, despite their un-Canadianness.... :lookaroun

Amazing ending/closure, Dan. Thank you for sharing with us the best Trip Report I've ever had the pleasure of sticking with from hopeful beginning to bitter end. For the love of jello, please go to WDW more often. The world needs it.

Wow! That was by far, hands down, the most entertaining TR I've ever read. I love your perspective both in comments and pictures. Very fun. Such wit. Keeps the reader eager to move forward to see what's around the next turn. Thanks for the awesome report. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment!

I've never stopped to see Off Kilter but my 2 aunts who travel to WDW a lot talk about them periodically...hence my lack of enthusiasm to seek out their entertainment since my aunts who are both older than my mother aren't exactly the rockin' types of chick-ee-tahs. I'm thinking maybe this is something to seek out for my 12 year old who is totally a huge rock/metal/guitar/drums freak. He's picking his own way musically these days with his guitar. ((I have yet to talk the hubby into venturing into the drum sets beyond Rock Band but it's only a matter of time...//insert evil devious cackle here//)) But when you say..."This is automatically more awesome than AC/DC headlining for Metallica headlining for Elvis"...well...really?! Wow! Lets go add Off Kilter to the list of things to try during family trip #6!

Also, did I miss the cracks about Obama somewhere? I coulda swore I saw several for McCain. Hhhhmmmmmmm...curious indeed...I'll have to read back thru. ;)

Loved how you worked that point-n-shoot. I'm soooo not carrying heavy camera equipment around WDW either. I think even when you said the shots weren't what you wanted they were great. Your night shots rock. I have yet to get anything decent at night unless I'm indoors. I have the patience of a gnat, tho. THat probably doesn't help. Plus, I have terrible luck with cameras...lose them...drop them...forget them when I'm leaving restaurants... LOL!

Anywhoo, thanks muchly for some great entertainment. Your TR is like no other and I loved it. Thank you thank you thank you a million times over!

Thanks to everyone especially who have commented on the TR... it's the only way I'll improve/continue to straddle the border of censor-worthiness.

Am I gonna be responsible from now on for getting people their "fix"?

(If you're willing to start a collection, I can be down there again quite soon. :lookaroun :D)

My favorite creative term you had was the slip-in of the asskickery. I love that. I've got to remember it, file it away, and use it sometime. LOL!

That part about being surrounded by 50s memorabilia on vacation. I can relate. Im a teacher and someone asked me "why do you go on vacation to a place with a million kids."

My reply: Im not in charge of any of them and they don't know my name!

Fabulous trip report! :sohappy:

I need to apply some Rustoleum to my French skills however, so I kinda missed out on that part.

Anyhoo...thanks for a great read!
