I have a (dumb?) question about the forced perspective of the Beast's Castle. We all saw that the castle was not very high at all when the photos and video were released showing construction workers installing it. The illusion of forced perspective is destroyed when a 'normal' sized object is next to it. So my question is...How do they keep birds from landing on it (or the Eiffel Tower at the France pavillion) and shattering the illusion? (Or are we supposed to just think "Wow, look at that pterodactyl sized bird on the castle!!"?)

I've wondered that too, about Walt's statue in front of the castle. How do they keep birds from landing on things like that? I've never seen that happen anyway, or any stains left over... BTW kudos on the pterodactyl line:sohappy:

I saw on another thread that you will go through the "magic mirror" from the movie to transport you from the village to the castle.

I thought the Magic Mirror was for the Meet & Greet...
I just assumed that you'd see Belle in her blue/white outfit...and you go through the Mirror and she's standing in her yellow dress with Beast.

Maybe they'll do the same for both...or maybe it's all incorporated together somehow.

Considering the will probably start putting up the castle lights soon the might as well leave the crane there.

I don't understand why they don't embed the lights into the fiberglass of the castle.

It seems like there are only 5 months out of the year where they are not either on the castle or in some progress of installation or removal.

Most likely it would be more costly to do that, or possible it might not create the look they are going for.

My question is how are they going to make you believe that you walked that far to get into the castle. There MUST be some theming inside to get you from Point A which is the village to Point B which is the castle.

In the movie, it only takes about hald of "The Mob Song" to get to the castle from the village!

That's actually the only thing that bugs me about the movie is the distance (or not) between the castle and village. It seems to change from very close to very far based on the seasons changing and the fact that no one in the village seems to know about this castle that was flourishing just 10 years ago. But then in other scenes you can walk there in hours.

It's a cartoon about a flower that transforms an arrogant jerk into a singing yeti. Suspend disbelief.

Wow... really? It seems so... far away. Cursed forced perspective!

I honestly thought it was an additional decoration/theming to make it seem like there's more castles.

It's supposed to look far away.... The castle isn't supposed to be located next to belle's village.... Forced perspective is amazing. And it does make it looks like there's another castle...because there is one.... >.>

You misunderstand what I was saying. I originally thought that castle wasn't Beast's castle, but more a decoration piece and that Beast's Castle would be akin to the size of Cinderella's castle as it has a restaurant inside. I have since been enlightened.

I feel like the caste for the top of the restaurant has a watered-downed appearance comparing to another representations from the Disneyland Paris storybook land. The castle in that attraction has much better details and looks more intricate.

It would be a very expensive project. I think they would be better off leaving the netting up year round at WDW and having effects to match the seasons/Holidays and different evnts. It might be necessary to change out the net every other year but perhaps they could have two. One that is on the castle and the second being refurbed in a shop.

What will be really interesting is any castles or other facades being built in the future and whether or not they have fiber optics or LEDs built into the surface as you suggest.

It is possible too many fine details on an object that is physically not that far away would not help the illusion. In the real world these details are lost due to moisture in the atmosphere and sheer distance. The Beast castle is supposed to appear fairly far away so they have to create details that look somewhat diffuse.

I think I will trust Imagineering on this one. They likely have already tested the illusion elsewhere. I think it will be striking to those who do not understand the details and especially so when lighted at night.

According to a friend in the holiday department, they take most of that half-year downtime inspecting/replacing every last bulb on all that netting. (Talk about a mind-numbing job!)

It originally drove me nuts as well, but the castle has been growing on me. I do think fading out some details makes it feel like it's in the distance but certain things do feel like they were attempts to cut corners. The walls around the front gate are flat and have lost the arches and the peaking shape they had in the film. That probably bothers me the most. The gate looked so grand, and because its located closer to us in depth than the rest of the castle, I think it could afford some more detail. The concept art and early model of the restaurant had scaled-down steps that led around the castle that were eventually cut out of the final execution. It's going to look great either way though.

With the new projection technology they are using on the castle, are the nets even needed?
