With the new projection technology they are using on the castle, are the nets even needed?

It gives a different look. The projections are great, but do look like projections. The LEDs on the castle give such a lot of light output, and seeing the actual source of the light gives it the intended effect. Projections don't really have that.

Personally, I wouldn't be surprised to see LEDs permanently installed in the fiberglass of the castle in the future. I really wouldn't be surprised to see that happen in Shanghai, might as well start that way from the beginning.

I do seem to recall one of the Discovery Channel specials including interviews with an Imagineer and behind him was a model of Cinderella Castle with color-changing fiber-optics embedded in it.

Of course because Tokyo's castle is exactly the same, it was never clear which castle that model was intended to be. (Is Shanghai getting Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty?)

Neither. Shanghai gets a whole new massive castle that's just called Storybook Castle. Features Meet and Greet Space, a restaurant, a stage show and part of a boat ride.

I've seen the concept art and video on the storybook castle and the video provided by Disney Parks, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f3h-cnalq6A , I feel like its not so much a castle and reminiscent of the Biltmore Estate. Yeah it’s a huge building but doesn't evoke the magic and beauty of the other Disney Park Castles. I notice more of a manor or estate home than something of a Castle belonging to a Disney park.

I always thought that that model was going to be a "product" to purchase for fan$.

I think that having a central "Princess Palace" is superb. A "summer house/spa" for the Girls. It beats having the Princesses spread out all over the park. Sort of a "Walmart, one stop shopping" for the Princess Meet & Greets :ROFLOL: .
