PH at MK.....

I have to disagree on the thought that the Tinkerbell movies would not have done as well as Planes in theaters. You have a classic character who is sassy, funny, and relate-able. That, on its own, will draw not only families with children but also the older, college, crowd (mostly female, I would imagine) who remember watching the original Peter Pan (and the direct-to-dvd sequel) as children. Tinkerbell has been a lone standing character since the 1950s. She was the fairy who introduced Walt Disney's show, she flies at MK, the stand alone merch is staggering! Plus, the Tinkerbell films are actually pretty good. (My 1 1/2 year old nephew loves Tinkerbell over Dusty Crop Hopper.) A cast of fun characters with varying personalities and a well told story over the course of 5 movies. TDO really underestimated this project and they have lost a lot by not giving it a bigger push to the masses, IMO. PH in MK should have been a no-brainer.

I think the Tinker Bell films are better than a lot of CG animated movies that "do" get released in theaters, and I think you're right, if they had given them a bigger push from the beginning and would have caught on with the public, and PH in MK would have been inevitable. The trouble is they weren't thought of, or treated like "The Little Mermaid" or "Aladdin" from the beginning, but more like the direct to video sequels, or Saturday morning cartoon versions of The Little Mermaid and Aladdin.

When the Fairies first started meeting and greeting people it was in the same tent where years earlier you could meet Darkwing Duck and Chip and Dale Rescue Rangers, it was a temporary building for temporary characters, and I think Disney initially viewed the Fairies in the same way. Because of that they're stuck in this limbo of being the best think Disney ever did that "wasn't released in theaters" and having a bias/sigma of being "direct to video"

...But just out of curiosity, how many people have even seen Walt Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" in an movie theater, and how many people have only ever seen it on TV/video?

I hope you are not suggesting that the Disney Direct-to-video Fairies series is of the quality and caliber of Snow White...

So are many discussions that seriously try to compare/contrast apples to oranges.
