Personal Pod Transport Arriving Soon?

Would this REALLY work at DAK though (or any park for that matter!)? I think that a hotel closer to EPCOT would be better suited for this. Unless this was really well themed to tree trunks and treetops and vine-cars... or the track as movie reels... or pixie-dust dusted track that sparkle at night... never mind!

Because those busses really blend in well!

They will never 100% replace busses, the demand is just too high at WDW.

However a Pod transport system could improve guest experience, the same way the monorail is the start of your Disney Park experience, Reduce the number of people using Disney Busses (hence reducing fuel loads and maintenance etc), and help with general flow to and from resorts.

We took a bus once, and refused to ever take one again, just the whole, stop off here, then there then there then maybe over here, in load cramped conditions.

So now we always drive around property.

If we could use a more intimate transport method, and a more direct system, we would be a millions times more happy.

I made a suggestion in the past of a good way to break up the network with regards to a monorail system.

Have a TTC North (Current TTC) and a TTC South Near DHS or AK, have a shuttle from north to south TTC, then from there distribute out to the various other hotels and parks near that system.

From the looks of how this system works, theres no reason that the same idea couldn't work, however they could just break it up into various "HUBS", so Epcot resort area is one hub, AK resort area is another, and just have on and off points to enable the "HUBS" to connect.

There are a million ways in which this system could work, and deep down i hope this is something Disney is looking into, even if its on a small scale (i.e. back and forth DHS or Epcot maybe to see how it works and how efficient the system is. Then expanding to other resorts in the area and eventually over to DAK.

One can dream!!!

If you have 5 connection "hubs" it could work.

1. TTC. This is the MK hub that would give service to the Magic Kingdom, Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Ft. Wilderness, Polynesian, and Grand Floridian.

(Connection to Epcot line near Ft. Wilderness)

2. Epcot: (Located in the bus drop-off). This would give service to Epcot, Boardwalk, Swan, Dolphin, Beach Club, Yacht Club.

(Connection to DHS line near Yacht Club) (Connection to DTD line near Port Orleans)

3. DHS area: Service to Wide World of Sports, Caribbean Beach Resort, Pop Century

(Connection to DAK line near Blizzard Beach)

4. DAK area: Service to Animal Kingdom, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Coronado Springs, Blizzard Beach, and All Star Resorts.

5. DTD: Service to Typhoon Lagoon, Saratoga Springs, Old Key West, Port Orleans Riverside and French Quarter, and the 3 Downtown Disney stops.

If you're at DAK and want to get to the MK...
You hop on at the Animal Kingdom...go to the DAK hub, remain on...and it will go to the DHS hub...onto the Epcot Hub...and continue on to the MK hub and on to the Magic Kingdom.

You never "stop" but it will continue to go through these motions to simplify the computer system and keep track of all of the vehicles. (If more pods are fluctuating towards the MK...then you can add more to that "route" and take some away from the DTD line)

It would be interesting to see what this would do to the time from a continuous-loading perspective. If you did not have to pick a random destination, but rather an area that would then cycle along a pre-determined route, it might save time and trouble.

In fact, if you use the infamous touch-screen system, you could select the hub you wanted to visit, and then when you got there, what stops the pod needed to make. The system would be continuously moving, with a moving platform like the TTA or other ride. Only open cars could be boarded. It might work that way rather well.

This would also help with the "my car broke down" problem. The cars would simply be pushed along to the next terminal where they could be taken out of service.

Using this system with the current options might significantly cut down congestion, even if it added a bit to the transport time of the pod system in general.

That's what I've thought could work. You could have a continuous Omni/PeopleMover like system that is continuously running "clockwise" and "counter clockwise" around the resort between 4 stations: the TTC, Epcot, DHS, and AK. From each of those stations, pods would connect to the resorts within that park's "resort area", with DTD connecting with the DHS station.

Of course, I find it unlikely that any new kind of transportation system will be announced for WDW, not in these financial times. Still, we can dream.
