I don't know if this would go over well with all guests. A lot of people on here talk about Disney as their "escape from reality" and refuse to watch the news on vacation. Having the latest political foodfight or deadly disaster waiting on their doorstep each morning could annoy a lot of people.

I like the way things are currently. You can find newspapers if you look (at least, I've seen them sitting around the resort lobbies), you can flip on the TV news or go online if you want, but those things are also easy to avoid if you just want to be untouched by it all for a little while.

I enjoy looking through the newspaper every morning. When I go to Disney, I have my newspapers saved at home and pour through them when I get back. Although I enjoy being separated from the world when I am at Disney, I would like a morning newspaper at my resort door to just look through to have an idea of whats going on. Instead I turn the TV on and watch the local Orlando news for a while before heading to the food court for breakfast.

I have to admit as someone who gets two papers delivered it was nice to take a step back(ok I got it a few times) during my last trip. I don't miss wi-fi or the paper because it was nice to leave all the politics behind for a week.

I don't read the paper at home and I certainly don't want to read it while on vacation. I don't think it's a bad idea for them to have a stack at the front desk for those that might want it but if you think of all the people that wouldn't read it then that's a lot of trees that can be saved.

I agree - especially now that the "news" is mostly about celebrities' personal indiscretions. I can go a few days without hearing about that crap.

Disney likely knows what the majority of people have posted here: many, including my family, doesn't want the newspaper while on vacation. I'd just pick it up and throw it in the recycling on the way to a park each morning.

Perhaps it would be good having some copies available in the lobby or at locations around the resort, but to invest the time and money into newspaper purchase and room delivery, would not be a good use of resources.

It's funny we stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in December and every morning the USA today was at our door and everyday we would step right over it! I rarely watch the news or read the paper at home b/c its always so depressing

I personally would enjoy having the paper, but it would be a huge waste for many people. When I stay at other hotels I see many papers that are never even read getting thrown out, or I hope at least recycled.
Typically a few days during our trip I get the paper out of the vending machine at the bus stop while waiting to go to the park in the morning. I am happy with that and do not need one delivered to my room. I honesty know I would not read it every day while on vacation and it would just be a waste.

I've no idea how much of a PitA this would be, but I'm guessing, since most newspapers' profit (if they make one) is based on advertising revenue and not the "newsstand" price of the paper itself, a lot of local papers would probably be happy to give WDW all the papers they need, for free, just to be able to claim to their advertisers that THAT many more eyeballs are seeing their ads. Same way Coke supposedly gives their syrup away as part of their advertising deal within The World.

Furthermore, if WDW were really concerned about going green, they could even audit the amount of papers they need. Upon check-in, they can ask you if you want a paper, they can tally the yes-es, and the local paper of record could possibly adjust the amount of copies they generate to accommodate the amount of copies they need, plus gladly leave a few dozen out in the lobby of each resort for anyone who wants one. They could even add an additional sticker from an advertiser - This Free Copy of the Orlando Sentinel Courtesy of Florida's Natural Oranges" or whoever winds up eating the costs, and only the amount of trees necessary to murder to get the amount of copies guests want get killed.

But ultimately, it's a moot point. Because WDW doesn't want to afford people the option of reading the newspaper. Because if you're reading a newspaper, you might see an ad for a sale in one of the outlet malls or a restaurant a short cab ride away, and that's time you're not spent at Disney potentially buying Disney stuff. USA Today wouldn't be so bad because there's not as much local advertising in it, but nonetheless, Disney only wants you looking at THEIR ads.

Heh, what would be interesting is a WDW-centric version of a sort of mini USA Today, where Disney gets the layout sent to them digitally, and they are allowed to insert the advertising they choose to insert, for distribution only on WDW grounds. Of course, then you run the risk of them exercising editorial control, choosing happy stories they want you to read and censoring stories of the politician-gone-astray or pretty-girl-gone-missing-presumed-dead variety.

Bottom line, newspapers in Disney probably won't happen. You're better off wishing for free wifi, which will be a moot point anyway soon, the way most people are gobbling up smartphones you won't need wifi.
