News People mover now reopened!

We were there over February break and we, too, left with the impression that the MK was falling apart a bit.

Big Thunder Mountain was broken down from park opening through mid-afternoon (it might have opened later, but we were gone by then). We rode the Peoplemover, and found they were loading less than half of the ride vehicles: between the ongoing construction in Tomorrowland (refurbing the track supports) and the dirty, beat-up appearance of the cars and the track, it looked like maintenance on the PeopleMover was all but abandoned. We did Carousel of Progress and got inexplicably "stuck" in the first scene for two go-rounds. I guess we were lucky that we were able to do Haunted Mansion that day, since it hadn't broken down yet, although when we came back a couple days later to finally squeeze in a ride on Big Thunder Mountain and revisit Pirates, we found that Pirates was now down.

I know it's typical for attractions to have some downtime, and maybe we just had a stretch of bad luck, but it did seem like MK was particularly hard-hit, especially given that we only spent a total of about 5 hours touring the MK and still encountered several attractions in need of maintenance, or inoperable.

A mechanical issue that has since been repaired and a single isolated incident of someone forgetting to close a door. Not exactly a problem with the attractions show quality and certainly not the same issue that plagues COP.

Hope that MK doesn't get to the point of Epcot where one day we wake up and it's a maze of construction walls and most of the work is concerned with trendy IP, beer halls and merch outlets.

Well, nothing is guaranteed, but MK is their flagship park. I can't see them boarding up everything for a complete overhaul. Not to mention they can only work on one attraction at a time. Why board up several if they're not all being worked on.

Edit: Let me restate... it appears they're only capable of working on one thing at a time. In reality they should be able to do several rides simultaneously. They just don't ever seem to do it for some reason.

Show quality just don't seem to be important anymore. I've said this before but something that would have caused a ride to go 101 (down) for "bad show" 10, 15, 20 years ago doesn't anymore. Seemingly, they'd rather have people experience a ride not operating at 100% than risk the lost ride capacity by closing it to fix it.

According to the app, the Peoplemover is now “Closed for Refurbishment!” Also when the parks close for Coronavirus, think they’ll spend that time and fix up a lot of the rides?

I have no doubt that every attraction with moving parts is scheduled for a refurb over the next 18 months to be ready for 2021. If park closures occur that would allow them to speed up that schedule IMO. At least for mechanical maintenace. Closures for final touch ups etc would be later but require less time.

Odds are it's the turntable. Damn thing beaks down a lot. (Which leads me to a head scratching story. Back in 70s when I worked there, the turntable started making noises. Maintenance refused to shut the ride down, as the downtime would be charged to them. The gears finally ground to a halt, and since the ride was now busted, it could be charged to ops!
