PC Redhead Meet and Greet

The scene itself is pretty terrible even when not compared to what came before it.

To you. Some people will like it and others might not even notice the difference, while others will detest it. Maybe it’s difficult for you to understand, but there’s no right or wrong in this debate, just opinions.

Personally I have some mixed feelings about the PoTC debate. I liked it when Disney used to tackle more mature subjects and material. Unfortunately Disney has an undeniably sh*tty track record when it comes to retelling history at its theme parks, particularly with its representation of women and minorities in historical settings. Ever notice how not one person of color appears in Pirates of The Caribbean? What Caribbean port are they attacking that doesn’t have one black or brown person that we can see?

Anyway, the sugarcoating of human trafficking and poking fun at overweight women in PoTC has never set well with me, so count me as one fan who is glad to see the original scene go bye-bye. Hopefully the cringe worthy African “savages” scene in the Jungle Cruise is the next to go.

There's a Chinese man in the auction scene. Also, I don't know why there necessarily would be any non-whites. Yes, it's the Caribbean, but it's a Spanish colony so it's understandable the villagers are Spaniards and pirates were historically English as those buccaneers would attack the Spanish ships carrying their gold from the Americas back to Europe.

See, that's my point. You're not judging the scene for its own merits, you're judging it because you were offended by what was there before. Step back from your personal social views, and just look at the art design, the visual gags, and listen to the dialogue and the voice acting. Tell me you honestly think it's witty or clever. I've yet to see anyone talk about how funny a guy carrying a large chandelier or grandfather clock is or how hilarious selling chickens is. There's no comedy here at all. Maybe, though, you do find it all funny. Comedy's subjective, but there's no layers to any of this like the best comedy has.

Because slavery. If you knew your history you would know that Spain was one of the first European countries to use African slaves exclusively as it developed the New World.

Of course I know that, but why would they be out and about during a pirate attack and why would they be in the village instead of on the sugar plantations?
I was doing that before you were born. Just because I can admire the showmanship of the scene doesn’t make the presentation any less problematic.
I'm referring to the new scene.

Why wouldn’t they be? Not all slaves were relegated to working in fields, and it’s likely that most or all of people on the auction block would have been black.

Are you suggesting Pirates of the Caribbean should have an African slave auction on the ride to increase non-white representation?

I see. I guess I view it as more of a trade off.

I’ve explained my issues with the original version, so let’s leave it at that. The only point I’m trying to make here is that TROR doesn’t have the final say on my DL experience. Try considering another’s viewpoint once in a while and chill on being so judgmental all the time. You might actually learn something.

As far as the new scene is considered, not comparing it to the previous scene, does it make you laugh? Do you find any comedy in it?

Man you can’t be serious with that dumb question. I’m done.
I'm not the one who brought up there being a slave auction. I said they wouldn't be in the village which is why they're not represented.

Since you are one of the ones trying to judge it by using the previous one at WDW, I'd say that is the pot trying to call the kettle...

You completely missed the point of what Hans was trying to say....

Literally nothing you've said makes any sense. I'm referring to the current scene at WDW, not the previous scene at WDW which is also the previous scene at Disneyland, just as the current scene at WDW will be the same one at Disneyland.

Ok.
My point was is that you are prejudging the DL version based off the WDW version without there being any confirmation they will be the same. Why don’t you wait until it’s actually released to judge it. It maybe better then this negativity you built up in your mind.

From the Disney Parks Blog.
In the U.S., this famous redhead will appear in a similar scene [to the one in Paris] at the Magic Kingdom Park and Disneyland park in 2018 following a previously scheduled refurbishment. Click here to view an artist’s rendering of the new Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort scenes.
Until there's a logical reason to assume otherwise, it's been confirmed that they're the exact same scene.

They missed an opportunity to have some area entertainment. Have Redd and the Auctioneer strolling around New Orleans Square, and somewhere they set up an auction. They could pick random people from the crowd and have them "auction off" their Mickey ears or a pin or whatever they might have. It would be a lot like the stormtroopers/jawas in concept except more of a show.

I dunno, I barely put thought into that.
I wish Disney had the Haunted Mansion characters come out more often besides private events at Walt Disney World outside of the Boo To You Parade.

If anyone actually goes up to the people who are friends with Redd and treats them poorly, that's a whole other kind of crazy that needs to be given a swift kick from the park. They are actors, it's a face character, life will be okay.
This 100%. If you have the nerve to go up to a random person dressed as a character and cause a scene or make them try and look fooolish....you need to maybe take a break from the parks. Only an idiot would even think it would be funny to do something like that.
